  1. Thank you all for the info, very helpful. Looking forward to hitting the trails in a few weeks
  2. Thank you, will try ride bits of it the week before. I have tried looking for the “Stairway to heaven” climb on Trail forks but can’t find where it is. Is it in Contermanskloof trails?
  3. Hi all, does anyone know how far in advance the prologue route is open for people to ride prior to the event? I know it’s open on registration day but I would prefer not to do the whole route immediately before 8 days of floggery? it’s a shame that day passes for Tygerberg doesn’t allow traversing of the whole area. Buying an annual permit isn’t the most economical choice for people who don’t live in the area.
  4. We are planning on heading that way in January for a mini camp, hopefully it doesn’t scare us away for March 😂
  5. Thank you all for the valuable info, looks like the yearly pass might be the way to go if I want to string a few trails together. Planning a mini training camp for January so will likely come in use again.
  6. Hi all, I am coming out from the UK next week to do W2W and I am looking to ride the Tygerberg area after the race ahead of the Epic next year. There seems to be loads of areas to start rides, Meetendale etc so I am reaching out in the hope that a local could give some advise on a route that is about 4-5 hours in length with some decent climbing that takes in the greater area? Is it possible to link multiple trails together or are they isolated. Any GPX files, tips, tricks etc would be greatly appreciated.
  7. Hi all, Was hoping people could share their thoughts on what the best mtb travel case is. I have some trips planned in the future that will require air travel so I am looking to purchase a travel bag/case. I don’t want to use a reused bike box, tried this before and they are just a bit too cumbersome. For context I have an Epic Evo is size XL so the bag/case needs to be able to hold a longer wheel base. So far I am leaning towards either an EVOC Pro or Thule round trip.
  8. Hi all, I have a Sid Lux Utlimate rear shock on my Epic Evo which came with manual 2 position settings (lock out or open). Does anyone know if it possible to change it to one with 3 positions without replacing the whole shock? would love the option of middle ground setting.
  9. Hi Guys. This looks like an appropriate thread for my following question. Im moving the UK at the beginning of next year and im looking to get a trail/enduro bike with 150 to 160mm of travel. Iv seen a few bikes on chain reaction cycles such as Nukeproof an Commencal that look like they are going for a reasonable price. I just wanted to get you guys that are in the know when it comes to enduro opion on the brands, and what i should be looking for. Im clueless in the area of MTB's I really like riding technical stuff and jumps but my current marathon racing bike doesnt like the big jumps to much. It looks like the enduro/trail scene is huge over there compared to marathon scene so im thinking of changing my riding a bit and moving over to the baggie short clan
  10. In the bend of the knee in between the 2 tendons as well as the left tendon.
  11. Thank you for the reply guys. Im sure its not my saddle height as iv done 1000's of km already without an issue and also had my bike fitted professionally by BikeFit. I did 45min on the Wattbike last night and seemed to be better so im just gonna monitor it over the next few days.
  12. Iv been traing over the last few weeks for a MTB ride in doing from George to CPT. I havent been doing huge amount of training, just a few spin classes in the week and 50+km rides on the weekend. Iv been feeling strong on the rides and think im in semi fair shape for the ride. However, yesterday I went for a training ride that included the Breedts Nek climb near Harties. about 10km into the ride I started to develope pain in my left leg behind the knee which iv never experienced before. The pain wasnt excessive but it was affecting my pedal stroke and I wasnt able to climb and ride as well as i wanted. I can still feel the pain in my knee today but its not to bad. What im asking is if anyone else has experienced a sudden onset of this type of pain as in my case and what the possible causes and solutions are ?. Im 3 weeks out from the ride so Im keen to have this dealt with asap. Have a good Sunday.
  13. Looks like the second option has slighly better specs, but the first one would be probably be better for stage racing.
  14. Fly KLM on your return Journey, the airline is average but most importantly the flight arrives 10pm.... Never seen a customs agent there at that time in all the trips iv done.
  15. I want to change to 2X10 or 1X11. I currently run a 3x10 but I usually always ride the middle ring. Only use the big ring for the long downhills.
  16. LOOK all the way.
  17. He tried to punch me. It glanced my side but i knew full well what his intentions were. His lack of coordination meant that he couldnt land it.
  18. Didnt get to see what bike he was on unfortunately. He didnt stick around long enough as it would of negatively effected his Strava times.
  19. To the chop in the red windbreaker that tried to sucker punch me in the ribs on sunday near the Victory Park Virgin active, while mubbling something along the lines of "make way for riders coming DOWN the trail", please take note of the following points. 1) Please learn proper trail etiquette. As far as most people are concerned, the riders going up the trail have right of way as it is harder for us to regain momentum if we have to get out the way all the time for people flying down the trail. 2) The Spriut has numerous paths on it in most areas. If you see a rider going slower than you as they climbing up a hill while you are going down it, use the piece of equipment that your hands are latched onto and move over to a different route when possible. 3) There is always another day to improve your Strava PB. Im sure you are not in the running for Tour de France currently so just slow it down to a panic. 4) if you have an indiscretion with another rider, rather asked them to pull over and talk to them face to face. Trying to punch someone in the ribs and then riding off with your pals is completely childish and cowardely behaviour. I know Im posting this with the hope that you are member the this forum and so happen to stumble on this post sometime, so it will more than likely fall on deaf ears, but I just thought I would bring the type of behaviour you exhibit while participating in our great sport to public platform. Cheers.
  20. Im still trying to decide if having the HRM and cadence sensor of the more expensive models is worth it. They would be nice to have but iv got by so far knowing that my rate is usually fast when going up a hill and not so fast on a flat road or downhill. Thanks for the feedback so far guys, that link to the review was great, very detailed.
  21. I was wondering if anyone is riding with one of these units. Im looking to get one as it wont break the bank and seems to offer most of the main features im looking for in a GPS unit i.e speed, distance, ascent etc. Not really intrested in power meters and HR monitors. Does anyone have any complaints, opinions on the unit ? Thanks.
  22. I love technical races, the more rocks and obstacles the better. The only downside though is that technical sections in races can cause major bottlenecks as people are to affraid of them. (2013 94.7 MTB race comes to mind)
  23. has anyone noticed a great difference btw SLX and XT stopping power. Basically, is XT worth the extra cash ?
  24. I think im going to look at the SLX version as well, from what Iv read, there doesnt appear to be a huge difference btw the SLX and XT.
  25. Looking at that in detail, im luckily avoiding the shipping and and import duties as ill get a family member to bring them with on their next trip.
