This year's total distance is +- 250kms shorter and +- 2000m less climbing compared to 2008. You also rode from town to town, so carrying your bags to a new tent after a hard day on the bike and again to the truck in the mornings on each stage was a drain. You also didn't have all the technical, nutritional and training benefits back then compared to what we have available today. 2008 Absa Cape Epic: 28 March to 5 April. 966km & 18529m climbing, from Knysna to Lourensford, including first prologue time trial. 1200 riders, 29% international and 41 countries represented. Winners: Roel Paulissen & Jakob Fuglsang.

My sm610 is still 100% original. Only has 17000 km on the clocks, took the photo two weeks ago. Love the sound it makes, especially when it backfires a bit when you close the throttle.

Commuting on my usual route to work this morning riding off the road on my mtb minding my own business and looking out for the usual suspects, taxis, I was riding up Main from Lonehill Blv towards Witkoppen when out of nowhere this vehicle with for occupants almost took me out from behind at speed. I got a moer of a SKRIK and I guess with all the adrenaline pumping in my veins I caught up to him and his buddies a kilo or so further up the road just before Witkoppen where they pushed their way back into traffic stuck behind cars at the traffic light. Bloody ongeskik as jy my vra,,,, and I almost lost my life!!!! I got next to him on the drivers side and unfortunately for him his window was open. I shouted at him WTF you drive like a box full of tools and grabbed his keys, switched off his car , removed the keys and threw it onto the busy road on the opposite side of the road. I took this photo after I got my bearings again and with great difficulty getting to my phone while he raced away and while I chased him down, tried to enlarge it a bit to see if I can get the nr plate.

The problem is, all of this moaning is falling on death ears.

They should start by making it LAW to have safe cycling paths next to all existing roads and make it a criminal offence when you hit a cyclist with any motorized vehicle as it is a very dangerous weapon which kills and maims! Nough said!

I thought all the money for this event was already secured when they started marketing the event, I don't understand the postponement?

I was so looking forward to watching this in the comfort of my couch to watch everyone bleed!
