  1. So what's the difference then, if I may venture further into the dark rabbit hole, between the PPA and CSA?
  2. so basically, the essentials are the PPA (R285) membership (including the race tec chip) and the CSA (R75) license. Essential and mandatory for event participation?
  3. It's a mess. different guys sanction different events and you need licenses for all these dudes. I'm confused.... hahaha
  4. Check this out: http://www.franscron...ster-2011/c1s7q it is a group from ASG (one of Frans' sponsors) including Frans who rode from Hermanus around the mountain (Somerset west, Stellenbosch, Franschoek, Villiersdorp, Caledon) back to Hermanus, 307km. They called it the Cape Monster and planned to hold it annually. Not sure what happened with the plans... but shucks!
  5. What is the difference then between the R350 domestic racing membership of CSA and the normal one?
  6. I am requesting the collective wisdom of my fellow hubbers again. Being a newbie to road cycling it is quite a bowl of mash potatoes to figure out where to get what membership for what end. Can someone please explain to me in simple terms and slowly the difference between Pedal Power and Cycling SA , who sanction what events, what membership I need with whom, and what I don't need? As far as I could gather Pedal Power covers race tec (one less membership to worry about). Pardon my confused ramblings....
  7. Once a week Frans holds interviews for his tv channel www.franscronje.tv, at a coffee shop in Cape Gate, next to the Superspar. He has an agreement with the owners of the coffee shop. He does amazing work to promote a healthier lifestyle. Check out some of the interviews. It's quite informative and well produced. He is a good ambassador for our cycling community in Cape Town especially. Don't disrespect the man. Just go to another coffee shop and let the man work.
  8. I think I might prefer something salty to eat, and get the glucose from gel (bought or homemade). Havent tried it yet, but trying to do some mental calculations. Will test my theory on Saturday's ride.
  9. Thanks for all the advice. Much appreciated
  10. Never thought it be a simple as my all time favourite peanut butter and jam sarmie! This is cool. I'll just pack a picnic basket on Saturday for my 90km ride to try all the options. ! Thanks guys. Really useful info. I feel hopeful!
  11. the peanut butter isn't a problem? sticking-to-the-back-of-your-throat-wise?
  12. My thoughts exactly. I was trying to imaging the mixture of yogurt and paw paw in my back pocket!
  13. Maybe its the bitter from the dark chocolate. Could be a definite option, thanks
  14. Not dead set, just getting a easy base to work from making the maths easier to double up. . Thus to sum up and making sure for 100 calory gel 26grams of honey 5grams of molasses 1 shot (30ml) of espresso Thanks. I will try this for this weekend ride.
  15. I will definitely try this. How exactly would you make your gel, say for a three hour ride needing about a 100 calories?
  16. I've tried the jungle bars ( the light one without chocolate because of the dairy-causing-phlem-thing) but the chewing was quite difficult. I also trued the black cat bar with peanutbutter and nougat, but it was terrible...
  17. I havent seen a post like this, so I dared open this thread to the multitudes of opinions of fellow roadies. As a general rule I struggle to eat anything while exercising. Its like the pathway between mouth and stomach is closed for the duration of the activity. But, riding for two, three or four hours forces you to recharge dem glutecose in dem muscles. So after trying snacks and various bars and failing to find something I can eat (and stomach) while riding that doesnt make me nausious or cause a build up of phlem, I appeal to my fellow hubbers. What works for you?
  18. Laughing turned to weeping then ended in violent coughing! Hahahaha
  19. After my wife's thret on me bikes, I decided to create a club where all unsheared cylists are welcome. We call ourselves the Barbarians...
  20. My wife said I can ride, but if I shave she'll kill me and burn my bikes. I dont mind death so much, but she threatened my bikes! I guess I don't mind the extra wind resistance! Hahaha
  21. Nope, keep it black and empty as a memorial and warning. If I was Eddie Merx I would want Amstrong's name next to mine in the hall of fame.
  22. I also like Marsie, it fits well. Kudos to you for taking her in.
