  1. And DH1 is finally open again. All the usual caveats - there have been one or two small changes and a new feature added and there are some dusty spots but should be fine when ridden in properly. The exit has been changed to line up better with the DH2 entry, the berm before the big drop has been moved to allow for better approach to the drop (B lines around there have been fixed and the landing has been changed a little - check first). There is a new jump and line into the big berm and all the landings through the central section of the trail have been fixed.
  2. One quick correction here - it's DH1 currently being worked on, no work on DH0 at the moment. That will likely get looked at after DH1 and Broken Road have had a bit more time put into them.
  3. Somehow missed this reply - as far as I know they are letting riders into all sections they could use before other than the link road (level 5) that leads down to Tokai. I wouldn't expect to see much in the way of repairs on Wapad any time soon, not based on any particular info just a hunch.
  4. And the latest news with access being restored to level 4 & 5 is the Cobra trail is now open for riding again. The trail is pretty much as it was before the closure, we had to clear quite a bit of debris on the track in and fix up one or two spots on the actual trail but otherwise all good. DH0 is still closed and will be looked at when we finish repairs on DH1. Hopefully DH1 will be ready to go within the next two weeks, I will update here as soon as we have a confirmed date for repairs to be completed.
  5. Opening again on Monday according to SANParks. You will be able to ride around Silvermine (not sure of the conditions because we haven't driven the full loop) just not down to Tokai.
  6. As you may have heard SANParks has decided to re-open levels 4 & 5 as from next Monday, this threw us a bit of a curveball and meant we had to head out that way to check damage levels and safety issues. There are a few spots on each level where you are likely going to have to walk for a few meters thanks to rockfalls, we have done just enough road building to allow us to get a vehicle past and will have to return later when time allows to sort the problems out properly. Our first drive around there took over four hours to complete, it was a bit of a mess. We did a basic sweep and clear on Broken Road but it is a good idea to take your time down there, at least the first time you ride it. Also be aware that there is a rockfall just after the exit so please slow down a little at the end. Both The Donkey Trail and the link up to Silvermine gate are going to remain closed for now due to rockfalls and safety concerns. So don't park in Silvermine and try and head down to Tokai, it's likely to go horribly wrong. The rockfall on the Silvermine gate link is particularly impressive and, me being me, I forgot to take a photo. So here's one of the Donkey Trail exit instead (And yes a whole lot of the trail looks like this) -
  7. We are looking at Cobra and the level 4 & 5 jeep tracks today so hopefully you get your wish on this one. It's either going to be Cobra or DH1. Yep the bees appear to have left when the fire arrived.
  8. The AM Trail was re-opened this afternoon. Entry is as per usual via the DH1 entry which has had a bit of a spruce up (DH1 still closed from the split with AM). The top section (the shared part with DH1) and just after the split are a little loose but will compact with use. The trail has been cleaned up and vegetation cut back and one or two of the features have been repaired and now you get a bonus stream crossing. The area after the stream crossing has had some additional rock lining and the exit has had quite a bit of repair work but is still pretty intimidating. Oh and those pesky bees have finally left the area.
  9. Fortunately for us that is on the side used primarily by the horse riders, if you thought the roads our side were bad they have real issues. The best part is we get told by botanists that our trails ruin the area, and yet they will ignore the state of the roads they have to drive up and damage in these pictures.
  10. Fairy Garden is finally open, bridge has been replaced and the upper exit has been repaired. Most of the trail remains 'as is' but watch out for one or two wet patches. One or two spots do need trimming and the steep corner needs a little work and these will be attended to in the next few weeks.
  11. Local management appear to have been able to chase up some emergency budget for road repairs this year with more to follow next year, whether this makes much difference remains to be seen.
  12. The Lizard trail is now open again, it's a little soft in places (lots of new soil in some spots) but should be okay after a few wheels have been down there. Not too much in the way of changes other than a little extra rock lining near the entrance in an area that was suffering a lot of water damage, a slight change to the first corner (slackened out a bit to allow for a bit more speed to be carried) and the mid trail step down is now made of rock because the log that was there previously burned. Also the exit track alongside the road kind of peters out about halfway down so watch out for that. Next on the to do list are Fairy Garden (find all the bits of bridge still missing and rebuild and then sort out the top exit) and DH1 (a lot of water damage on here, should be ready in the next two weeks if nothing goes horribly wrong).
  13. That's going to be quite a while I would guess, if ever. That jeep track is absolutely toast in large areas - over time we hope to add by pass sections to all the worst parts but it's going to be a longer term project.
  14. Sorry - we weren't too clear on that. Four & Five are closed in the direction of Silvermine. Mast route is open, it's a bit of a muddy slog once you pass Mamba until you get to the 'lookout corner' but same as ever after that. For what it's worth I would wait until it is a bit drier up there, it's doable now but I would hesitate to recommend it as 'fun'.
  15. Not here trust me. This lot bugger off up the mountain and are roundly ignored. We find, and report, all sorts of stuff where they work - littering, cigarette butts dumped out of car ashtrays, the poison they used left abandoned in open containers, oil cans dumped in water courses, all the slash dumped in water courses or next to the trail and more. One team were caught stealing a riders hydration pack (no action taken on that one, they were just allowed to continue working once the pack had been retrieved). Years of reporting has achieved nothing and even now some would have you believe that the MTB trails are the biggest problem on the mountain.
