  1. so i'm over here from england now until after cape epic. I'm a bit overwhelmed with choice of rides which is an excellent problem but a problem none the less. I've entered a few but would really appreciate recommendation of others to do. I will be based in the western cape but am very keen to see more of SA so happy to travel far and wide if the race is worth it. so far I'm doing: Eselfontein, val de vie and origins of trails this month thinking of doing sable experience in dec attakwas in jan ride the rock and maybe garden route 300 in feb epic march il do the mtn marathon races as and when i can. id really like to race every weekend i think as i don't have the opportunities at home.thanks
  2. really interesting reading this as a brit. I'm from outside london, surrey so fortunately didn't have to ride in central london too much. when i did though it was always a test of survival. unfortunately there are way too many cyclists now for cars+cyclists+motorcycles and busses, lorries etc to share the same road. a lot of the cyclists are absolute idiots cutting through spaces that just aren't there and that really doesn't help matters. theres no sense putting in cycle highways, it clearly isn't working. they need separate lanes on roads away from the main ones the big lorries use. i can't see any way round that. also they need to make it an actual crime to kill someone with your car. at the moment you'd get a worse sentence if you stole a handbag...
  3. nope, those days are behind me
  4. sorry, mtb. id really love to ride stuff like the single track in the elgin valley but apart from there i don't know where id go.
  5. first time there this weekend so wanna ride as many places as possible. if anyones out and wouldn't mind me coming that would be great! don't mind driving a bit so somerset west/paarl etc would be fine but pref near stellenbosch if poss.
  6. climbing isnt a problem at all so long as the rewards are worth it! are there any gpx downloads or anything coz i dont know how il know where any of those bits are? im not pasty white you know! we did have summer this year for a change!
  7. thanks, i was hoping to stay for a couple of days but have to get back to hermanus. im thinking to come back though for the weekend as i wanna find somewhere to live in stellenbosch i think so need to have a proper look around. theres no races this weekend so far as i can see so i can ride a lot at the weekend.
  8. im over from england for 5 months and will be in stellenbosch tomorrow to get my bike fixed. i want to rider in jonkershoek but im aware going 'blind' i could miss out on things as i dont think there are specifically marked trails there? i have searched online and also this forum but havent found any routes i could download. obviously the best thing would be to ride with someone but i realise most people have to work can anyone help with a route file?
  9. just arrived from england for w2w. was ill last week so haven't ridden for the whole week. I'm in hermanus now til the reg for the race on thursday. don't mind an hour 1/2 drive to ride somewhere, was thinking maybe from stellenbosch but i really don't know the riding so il go wherever therell be other people! i know theres some proper trails around but i just don't know where to go.
  10. I'm entered as a mixed pair for the race at starting 8th nov. My partner can't be sure he can do it and as the final date for changing names is Monday, I need to find someone. Bit of a tricky one as I'm in England so won't be able to meet whoever steps in beforehand. I race Xc here but have had a bit of a bad run of injuries this year so not Xc pace fit just now. Not aiming to win anything but want to ride each stage without too much faffing. Please pm me if your keen and tell me a bit about yourself.
  11. Peninsula Poultry Appliances? you sure?
  12. im coming over to sa for 5-6 months in nov. ive entered a few of the bigger stage races but cant find any one website that lists the smaller races. here we have the british cycling website which lists most then theres a couple of smaller websites that list local races but i cant find anything like that for sa. i appreciate its a MUCH bigger area so on that basis, im most likely going to be in the western cape though i get the impression theres more racing further north/joberg way? thanks in advance and happy to have any recomendations of races i should do. so far doing w2w, ride the rock and of course, epic edit: err.. just noticed theres a calendar on here, is that the best one?
