  1. i don't know if i agree with that as it is.. you can obviously die from both but you;d be hard pushed to over hydrate to that point while riding unless you are meaning over hydrate as in drink too much water with no electrolyte replenishment which is of course a wholly different kinda death..
  2. can of worms.. everyones bums are different so its pretty impossible for someone to recommend a saddle i think. people always assume its the saddle thats wrong but it can be as simple as moving it forwards or backwards a tiny bit or even checking its level. test saddles are the way to go though no question. I've never used a womans specific saddle but have always used specialized. i find all of their saddles work for me but my preference is for the phenom which is what i have on all of my bikes. i see no one has mentioned it yet which just goes to prove what i said first off about recommending saddles! when i worked in bike shops id always ask people what it was about their saddle they found uncomfortable. from what you've said, if you had come to see me at the shop id be wanting to see how you were sitting on the saddle. if I'm looking at the right one (I've just googled it) then it looks to me to have quite a wide and cushioned nose. from what you say id wonder if the saddle was too far forwards for you so you were pushing yourself backwards and therefore putting too much pressure on your 'lady bits'. it could be (depending on what you have) that changing the seat post could be the solution.. may be you need layback if you have inline. i dunno, without seeing it its difficult to say and I've probably gone on a bit too much anyway...
  3. I've always felt that the general advice to have 1 every 45 mins was a bit excessive. id think this would only apply to people racing a shorter crit effort type of race and would be too much for the average person. thats not to say it would do any harm except if you were out for a really long time making you really sick of gels. i think it will depend on the effot that you are putting in. if you are reasonably fit but not fussed about racing and therefore not pushing that hard then i think 1 every 45 mins will be more than necessary. it also depends if you are using energy drinks and/or solid food. if you are very unfit then its going to be harder for you and in that case i would err on the side of causion and have 1 every 45mins. personally i go for 1 an hour in conjunction with electrolytes. if I'm doing a stage race then il normally use energy drink as well but not very strong. there is no right answer really, everyones requirements vary, some need much more than others so you'l have to see really what works for you. what have you been doing on long training rides?

    Tour de Philadelphia

is it true this race was stopped due to bad riding? interested to know as I've been in many road races at home (england) with terrible riding and can't remember any being stopped properly. there've been races where the bunch was stopped and told off but always allowed to continue.
  5. i normally find swearing a lot then bursting into tears does the job. this method normally takes a couple of hours so make sure you aren't in a rush.
  6. i remember the first ever club ride i went on and the first person i saw had shaved legs. i thought it was really strange but fast forward to now and i notice hairy legs far more. much much prefer shaved though not hairy shorts, thats gross. do it properly or not at all
  7. I've seen quite a few rides on strava where people have gone over franshoek pass and back. seems to be popular with quite a few pros. is it only possible to do on road or is there an mtb way? id love a ride from stellenbosch if that was possible?

    Stage Racing

its at the end of the year now but i did sabie xperience in dec and it was great. too short really (for me) but they made it like that to make it more accessible. really beautiful up there too
  9. i love how england shines brightest of all!
  10. it would be my pleasure. i wonder if i could get a working visa on 'exception skills' on that basis?
  11. what is wrong with you people... honestly. i can't understand why cyclocross hasn't made it over here yet, you'd be in your element
  12. i thought arianne was riding with cherise stander in the womens now they are in the team together?
  13. In other news... I spent some of my prize money on a coffee grinder. Happy Christmas me
  14. i don't mean to offend anyone, i completely respect that some areas are predominately afrikaans but given that english is also a main language here, i thought the briefing should have been in english. i can't expect someone to stand there and translate the whole thing for me! probably best i didnt know about the sand though..
  15. i totally appreciate that afrikaans is a very important part of south africa but it was a bit awkward having the whole briefing and prize giving in afrikaans. i don't speak a word of it so if anything important was said in briefing i didnt know about it. never experienced that before i must say. thankfully people were pretty good in prize giving to translate for me but mainly, i think its important that everyone can understand briefing!
  16. No it said on the website 30 for late entry so that was right. Shoulda been 180 + license if u didn't have kne
  17. No j didn't get charged it tho I was expecting it.
  18. i really didnt enjoy that bit! it was cold and smelly and i kept getting caught in deep sand pockets. if id known what was coming after i wouldn't have minded so much! the best bits for me were the 2 bits marked 'danger'. more of that kinda thing and id be back
  19. i haven't entered yet!
  20. What about the last bit after bredasdorp?
  21. is this a running translation or something different?
  22. Am I missing abything here not knowing any Afrikaans?
  23. Filled with dread
  24. It's just not the same thing at all! We went for a ride but it in no way compared to riding a stage of a race. I was surprised how few people rode given they'd all travelled up for it.
  25. It would have been nice for them to offer something j think. The prize money wasn't carried over I don't think so bit annoyed about that. I know it wasn't their fault but still.. I loved the prologue. Wish there'd been more of the same on days 2 and 3. Day 2 really lacked singletrack but day 3 was good. Views amazing and we were so lucky with the weather! I'd go again for sure
