  1. I've read this a couple of times now and I'm not sure it actually says no garmin use full stop. i don't think that would be fair as a lot of people use them just for tracking time, distance etc. i don't wear a watch so i need it to know when to have a gel. i cant see them policing 1200 people when a huge portion would use a garmin.
  2. i so don't agree with this size thing.. I'm 165cm and i ride a 29er. it is way faster for almost everything i do and gives me much more confidence than smaller wheels as it tractors over everything. yes you will probably get a better deal on a second hand 26er but don't listen to people who say anything about heights on bikes. if you can ride a 29er, stand over it comfortably and not have the handlebars 10ft above the saddle (like some people have to which is clearly ridiculous) then ride a bloody 29er because it is just better. definitely better in sa.
  3. anything we upload to strava would be pointless anyway because there will be a million people faster than us who didnt upload. I've had QOMs in races before when i know i was way way slower than the front girls but they didnt upload. not like i actually was fastest which is the whole point really.. i think its fair enough. I've downloaded race routes before hoping to ride them but have always checked before i did to find that i wasnt allowed. il still use my garmin, couldn't give 2 sh*ts about strava for epic, just want to finish the bloody race.
  4. ive scoured the new epic website and i cant find anything about registration.. i assume itl be at the waterfront but if it is, when?
  5. shrink and pink is the technical term. Interesting it's still going strong out here. Women's kit seems very pink based. Suppliers in England realised it was wrong a couple of years ago. There is choice now
  6. I've worked in bike shops for the past 5 years and womens specific is one thing I've never bought into. There is definitely a place for smaller bikes, most mens bikes only go down to small and this is often not small enough. womens geometry is different though, its not just a case of making smaller bikes. often the top tube is a bit shorter than the equivalent mens size frame as well as having a different saddle and possibly narrower bars and shorter stem. there is no right or wrong, you need to find the bike that fits you best. this means not limiting yourself to one or the other. for what its worth I've never ridden a womens bike or used a womens specific anything...
  7. i think the reality is you sing whatever the last song you heard at the start was.. or a bit of it. repeatedly.
  8. nothing beats this, nothing! avicci hey brother especially the bit from 1.30 in. arg i love it! could listen to it on repeat climbing no problem.
  9. bummer, where'd she get that? i wanted one of those!
  10. there wasnt a single bloody sign for the free parking! i turned down church road as thats where it looked like i should go based on the website map but nothing! managed to park on some bit of dirt on sir lowry road. came back to find the car guard having a fight with his girlfriend so made a swift exit. i thought the expo was really disappointing. I've been to many similar shows in england and expected quite a lot given how big the argus is.. not much there really. surprised how little there was by way of samples from the energy food companies. surely they are missing a trick not getting people to taste their stuff?
  11. what did you pay? non protection versions are about 350 online whereas protection are 550 (cheapest I've found online,6-700 in shops)

I've found pauls information on distance/climbing to be very different to published at times.. try not to take any notice.
  13. Rode red, yellow and green routes today. Fair few signs missing or obscured. Would have gone wrong more than I did without my garmin..
  14. Slightly off topic but does anyone know why on Sunday, many riders felt it was perfectly ok to ride on the wrong side of the road all the way to registration? People were riding both sides chatting. Quiet road I know but still made no sense. Also, any tips on how to get those bloody sabie mud stains off my kit?

  16. i used to get really bad chainsuck in the wet on one bike but then i got a clutch rear mech and that solved it..
  17. thats was grim... mamba was the least of my worries. its not even that bad. merino monster on tankwa trek is 10000 times worse. i just had nothing today. nothing at all. even got off and walked a bit where i really shouldn't have. one to forget...
  18. i don't know what you are all moaning about. its a pure stroke of genius. they can now do away with all staff as people can just tick the box depending on which category they fit into, empty the piggy bank and the bike will automatically be selected for them by a computer and dispatched to them. itl keep their costs down no end. genius..
  19. it is absolutely chucking it down in sabie. full on thunder storms. haven't been out on the bike but il go tomorrow.. thinking i might regret not changing tyres but it was too much hassle for one race out of the western cape.. no doubt you will be seeing me sprawled on my face in the mud at several points on saturday

those videos are crap. they must try harder next time
  21. i entered with my uci number.. won't be in the country but it'd be nice to try to qualify for the world champs. no idea how big the field will be though!
  22. I just came on here to post that! It's not even a one off. I can think of more than one occasion where a whole trailer of bikes has been stolen at home. Pretty muh every round of the national Xc series had overnight bike thefts from the back of cars or whole trailers of demo bikes. I think it's a much bigger problem there than here. No way would you leave your bike overnight like we do err at races or even unattended while you go to the loo at a race!

    Tankwa Trek

It was all rideable no doubt and I agree, don't take any of that out. Can't believe how many people complained about the last km of day 1. Get over yourselves!
