  1. TNT, you know there was a guy in the bible also trying his best to do harm to Christians, he then became one of the biggest Christians. This is your way of seeking attention and help, so yes, there is still hope for you.

If you read TNT's posts, you will see that he has repeatedly said he is NOT trying to harm christians or christianity - just trying to make the point that NOTHING should be above question. This includes your religion or your neighbours or the any other religion.

This doesn't mean that one should be able to be intentionally insulting but many religious people (not only Christians) seem to think that you cannot ask them hard questions about their faith without it being insulting. Why is this? Perhaps their "faith" is not as rock solid as they would like to have you believe and as such, when you start to poke it, you reveal it to be the facade it always was?

  2. I don't want to put a serious slant on what may well be a tongue in cheek thread but...

Maybe I haven't been married long enough, but I have to say I am a bit taken aback by how some people seem to view their spouse! I was kinda thinking that people were really JOKING about marriage being like a war but from some of the comments here, it seems like it is the reality in some homes.

Which is sad - I would hate to be at loggerheads with my wife on a long term basis - enough to make anyone miserable. So my 2c - if you are in a marriage like this where you are miserable, it's a bit like Shawshank redemption - either you get busy fixing or you get busy divorcing. I don't advocate divorce (ESPECIALLY if there are kids involved) so that should be a VERY last resort. But ultimately if your wife buys you something you don't like and you retaliate by buying her something she doesn't like, where does that leave you? Both of you are pissed off and resentful. How about listening and buying her somethign she REALLY wants and spoiling her on her birthday. Maybe then she will think more carefully about what to get you next time your day rolls around? That old chestnut "be a friend to have a friend" thing. I challenge those who are in a cold war with their partners to try it out and see what happens. REMEMBER - you may have to do it two or even three times to prove you are not "up to something"!

    Dr Phil signing off!!!

  3. Nothing wrong with Silverback, after all they are designed in Deutschland, except you are looking for the wrong bike. Checkout the Smegma, a 29er hard tail. You can't go wrong, there is so much infighting going on here about them it's like COPE. 26er Hard tails are so 2009... Flame suit on...

I am sorry but calling your bike a smegma is just wrong.

Quoting Wikipedia, "Smegma (Greek smēgma, "soap"[1]) is a combination of exfoliated (shed) epithelial cells, transudated skin oils, and moisture. It occurs in both female and male mammalian genitalia."

    Nice!

  4. I love the power of nature and floods etc get me excited like a little boy. So on my way home on Friday, I stopped of next to the little stream that flows below our house to see what impact the cloudburst had had. This is the stream that flows through the Randpark gold course and is usually small enough that you can usually find a spot where you can jump over it with a little run up.

WOW! I must have arrived after the MAIN flood had passed because you could see that the water had been even higher earlier on. So the photos below were taken around 6ish on Friday afternoon.

Then I thought I would go by on Saturday to see how much the water had receded. This was taken around 1pm on Saturday. This is the same tree you see sticking out the water in the first photo. The roots must stand about 2.5m above the riverbed to give an idea of the scale!

Then we had another cloudburst on Saturday afternoon. Sadly I was not able to get down to the river immediately so only arrived a bit later when the water had gone down a lot but still - pretty impressive:

post-4505-0-73570300-1301297440.jpg In this second picture you can see how much higher the water was by the vegetation that has been flattened by the water.

Amazing how the urbanisation has created this situation where all the water basically is channelled into 1 furrow and then forms these hectic torrents.

Oh and I got my double cab stuck trying to turn around! Managed to get my front wheels over a little ridge and my back wheels stuck in a muddy spot! Eish! Lucky I was near home cause I had to go get a spade to dig my car out!

  5. Ok - I just stepped into fruitloop land! WTF! Bizarre. I must say, the idea of a merkin for cycling appeals. If you ass gets too sore, you simply shift your merkin around to the tender area for extra padding. Problem solved. Since this topic is so bizarre (and I found this joke whilst googling Merkin to find out what it was, why do scotmen wear kilts?

    Because sheep can hear zippers!

  6. Yes - I was there! And I finsished! 7 hours and 7 minutes. Swim - lovely. Have to agree regarding the wetsuits though - I was actually hot after the swim and had no wetsuit on. So I am sure those that did must have overheated a bit. Ride was good. I think they could (should) have tried to stop all the big trucks that were coming off the one district road for a few hours - they threw up a lot of dust and were a road hazard. Saw the rider that was knocked over - anyone know what happened?

But the ride was mostly good - the road only had the odd small pothole and the course was pretty flat which made for quick times.

The run was a bitch. My polar said 35 degrees average and 40 degrees max. This was on my wrist to I guess you could take off 2 or 3 degrees for body heat etc but that is still fiery hot! And yes, us plonkers at the back of the pack had to make do with the scraps in terms of water and drinks. The guys manning the tables were bitching and moaning about the heat. I felt like telling them to try run 21km in that same heat! You know it is hot when all the plants start to droop and that was definately the case on Sunday. I think to run out of water on such a hot day was more than bad organising - it could have caused a serious health issue. I heard one lady saying she was feeling really sick and needed water. Luckily Midmar dam has lots of ablutions where you could go and quench your thirst.

My first 70.3 so glad to finish. I was told this one was supposed to be pretty easy but I gather that this is actually not the case (especially when you factor in the heat). I hope not, because I was suffering at the end!

  7. Hi all

I bought myself a light at the 94.7 expo which is branded "Argus". I had it sitting in a box but as thoughts of winter return and I was thinking about riding in poor light, I thought I would get it out and fit it to my bike. Sadly it didn't work and now I have no idea who or where to return it. Anyone know who the agents are or where I can take it? I am based in JHB.

    Cheers

  8. Just an update - I thought I would "do the right thing" and report this guy. I went to the local cop shop and gave an inspector his registration number. The cop looked it up and said there are no details for this vehicle under the owner section. Apparently what a lot of the taxis have done is to either get false number plates, duplicate number plates or get the owner details expunged off the record. So there is no person to pursue to follow up on this. So it is a dead end unfortunately - cannot take it further.

The only thing to take from this experience is that if you are ever involved in an accident with a taxi, whether in your car or on your bike, if you can help it, don't let the bastard leave before the metro cops have arrived. Apparently they can do an instant lookup on his number plate and from there, they can see what is happening and impound the vehicle if it is not correctly registered. At least then you have a SLIGHT chance of getting paid out something for any damages.

They have got to do something about these taxis though - they are beyond the reach of the law...

  9. Are you saying that he deliberately stopped so that you would crash into the taxi, as a response to your shouting at him?

Sorry if I missed something. The title is "knocked over by a taxi"

I'm trying to visualize the incident:

He turned in front of you in a intersection.

You were coming head on and going straight over he intersection. You could not stop in time when he decided to blockade you.

    You hit him.

Sorry - I missed this before. In answer - yes that is right. I was going straight. Had the taxi not stopped in the middle of the intersection (and I can only surmise that he did this deliberately so that I hit him) I would have been fine because I had braked already and was going slowly enough that he would have had time to get through before I was crossing. When he unexpectedly came to a total halt, I was not able to stop myself completely so hit him and fell over.

  10. You wouldn't catch me in Emmarentia Dam EVER. I just think you are taking a big risk. You may swim there 20 times with no problem and then one day you get a nasty in your system and spend 3 months recovering. And I don't think I am being paranoid. Just not worth the risk if you ask me. I have seen sewage flowing into the stream that flows through emmarentia. If you think its ok to eat ****, then by all means...happy paddling! I think in a canoe is ok - much lower risk but doing crawl where you are breathing in that water every breath you take - uh uh!

  11. Sunday morning I was riding along Republic Rd next to Cresta and I see a taxi turning right. Of course he doesn't stop for me (I never expected him to) so was braking but shouted at him (no profanities - just told him to watch where he was going). Anyway, so he is driving through the intersection when suddenly he just stops dead in the middle of the road. If he had gone through, it would have been no problem - he would have been out the way by the time I got there but because he stopped in front of me, I couldn't stop in time so I hit the back of his taxi. Fortunately by the time I hit him I was going quite slowly but still fell over onto the road.

I was ok - bruised elbow, torn glove and my palm was bruised. But this asshole just drives off. I took down his registration number (WJK554GP). What should I do? Report him for a hit and run or am I just wasting my time. My bike was fine, I was basically not injured badly but the guy didn't know that when he drove off. Obviously I was outraged but not sure what good it will do to take this further. Anyone know if the cops will do anything?

  12. Was there this weekend. The road over the ridge which I refer to as Maanhaarrand Pass would I believe be the same as Breedt's Nek is rough, the road is very eroded at the moment and I presume it will only be worse with the rain that's fallen the last 24 hours. Also that area has a lot of quarts rocks that results in that thick, coarse sand that can put you on your ass in an instant if you are not VERY careful. So be careful of belting it down the road when you come down cause you could be picking grit out your teeth.

But I think if you are fit a ride up and over (with a few short walks where things get very rough) is do-able. Give yourself time and be aware that once the clouds clear, it is very hot so take along some refreshment.

  13. what happend/side effects ? did the doom hurt their feelings ? :)

In case your enquiry was not 100% tongue in cheek, they felt really ill and had to have a bath to wash off the doom asap. I don't think they tossed cookies but I remember them feeling very green. Their feelings were fine though! :D
