  1. Is this a 88/89 Giro ? I took this bike over from my Dad recently. He bought it in 95/96. SLX tubing. Came with a 8 speed Campag Avanti groupset and Shimano BB. So I’m thinking a NOS frame lying in the shop fitted with later kit. According to what I can find , looks like Mondiale , Superleggera and Giro , all the same frame with different paint and group sets. Any other ideas / info would be appreciated. Can’t find too much on the net.
  2. Raced one of these in the early 90s ( a red one ) . Always regret selling it . A great bicycle !
  3. All the holes will not be filled in a weeks time. Too many to do at their current rate of progress. However , you are absolutely right. Would be hazardous for bunch racing but no issues at all at a slower pace where you just work your way around the holes. Great piece of road to ride. The Loteni road out of Nottingham road is also very nice to ride ,but you will have to ride out and back rather than a loop. Avoid the R103 from Mooi River to Rosetta without road closure. Traffic can be an issue , especially big trucks. Vehicles travel fast on this section and there is no shoulder.
  4. 120 km would put you somewhere close to Mooi River. 110 km would have you on quite a quiet district road we call the Giants Castle road. There is a road that goes from the Giants road to Hidcote and the highway , so this could be a good spot. ( at the bottom of a long downhill section ). Mooi River town could be a good option too. Both of these locations would give you access to the N3 and avoid cyclists involved in the event.
  5. Ride to Pmb sometimes. Normally on the road bike ( which is my first love ) but ride mtb sometimes too. There a couple of strong guys who live here in the mountains.
  6. Most cars causing problems on the Kamberg road are from out of town. Local vehicles including taxis and big trucks are pretty considerate. Road is busier on the weekend but really not a big deal. ( just to clarify my comments , I live/farm and ride on the Kamberg road ).
  7. Sub contractors are in the process of patching the road. A lot of holes have been patched. Some to go.
  8. No Not in person - just his music.
  9. A Colnago for a wet day. In anticipation of a wet summer and lots of rainy days , I spent an enjoyable morning with Andrea Bocelli , assembling an old Mega Master. A mix match of old 9 speed Campag parts paired with some Mavic Aksium wheels . Bright colours should hopefully be quite visible on a dull day.
  10. Sani top is cool for a beer or lunch. Rather overpriced for what you get , so I would stay at the Sani backpackers or the hotel. Backpackers is quite simple but good value. Hotel a little more upmarket.End September is probably better from a weather point of view. End November could be quite wet if we have a normal spring. Both are good places to start if you want to ride the pass. Remember to take your passport. ID books are no longer accepted at the border post.
  11. A couple of years ago , I went over the bars and the bar end ripped a blunt hole in the top of my thigh . Luckily missed the Femoral artery . Took 3 months to heal completely , this with a bar end in . I hate to think what it would have been like without bar ends ! Was using hard clamp on bar ends which may have exacerbated the situation . These days I use a softer bar end with a slightly more rounded profile .
  12. Very sad to be missing out .Hope you guys all have a great time and hopefully see you next year .
  13. A Classic Bicycle Needs a Classic Saddle ! This South African built 80s Peugeot Classique hadn't been loved for a long time but that's about to change. A light but durable Tange steel frame with enough clearance to mount some bigger tyres makes this an ideal frame for L'Eroica. This Classique has a typical 80s mix of components . Bullet proof Mavic open 4 CD rims are laced to a set of Suntour Superbe Pro hubs. Suntour Cyclone derailleurs and shifters matched to a Stronglight chainset makes up the drivetrain. Lightweight CLB calipers will take care of the braking but need to be matched to some as yet unfound brake levers. These are to be mounted on a classic combination of Nitto bars and stem. A fine Brooks saddle for all day comfort , would be the crowning jewel to make this Classique feel loved again !
  14. Help needed with identifying the age of this frame. Internet has failed me. Most sites about Colnago say 2000s for the Mega Master but I am not convinced. It is Columbus Altec tubing and has a 1" threaded Time Colnago fork. I am thinking this frame is late 90s but would like to be more precise if I can. There is no kit on the bike to give an indication of age as it had been bastardized as a commuter with a mish mash of parts. Any input would be gratefully received.
  15. Go see a nutritionist about a weight loss plan in combination with increasing your mileage. Being fitter and lighter , you won't know yourself and riding will be much more enjoyable.
