  1. The orange one was a bit above my pay grade but thank for all the help and advice! See you on the trails!
  2. Thanks for all the input guys. I currently have a 100mm XC bike (2014 Scott Spark 910) and want to get something a bit more playful with modern geometry but still able to spend long days in the saddle. I agree it's the whole bike setup that makes the difference not just suspension travel. The Merida just seemed like the best value for money and the reviews state that it's perfectly fine for long days as well. In fact the Merida Team did the 2019 Cape Epic on One Twenties and won the Masters category! If I had the bucks I would have looked at the Pyga Stage Max or Santa Cruz but they a bit pricey... With no stock on the 120 I was considering the 140 but there is no stock either so yeah... So now I'm deciding between the Giant Trance 29 2 and Trek Fuel EX 7, leaning towards the Giant...
  3. I'm not a racing snake, just ride for fun and fitness. Will definitely swop the knobbies for faster tyres on longer rides/races though. Just don't want to get a mid travel bike and end up wanting to throw it off the mountain halfway up a long climb.
  4. Hey guys, Would buying a mid travel trail bike (140/150mm) instead of a short travel (120/130mm) be a bad idea if I plan to do some longer rides and races (Sani, Transbaviaans)? I have my eye on the Merida One Twenty 800 (very well priced for the spec level) but stock seems to be an issue (XL) and I'm guessing there won't be any new stock coming since the 2020 models will probably be here in a couple of months. Will it be a mistake to look at the Merida One Forty 800 (same spec but 150mm)? I am considering the Giant Trance 29 2 and Trek Fuel Ex 7 as well but they are a lot more expensive (R10k) than the Merida and spec wise lesser. Your thoughts?
  5. Hey all, We are going to Monateng Safari Lodge in Jan and I was wondering if there are any MTB trails in the area. If so, what distances and how technical? Thanks all!
  6. Does anyone know what the distances are of each of the routes at Northern Farm? They used have it numbered 1 to 3 now there are 5 (I think) colored routes?
  7. Hey Gringo, After a lot of research and shopping around I opted for the Big Nine TFS500 and got it from Linden Cycles. Good service and friendly staff (thanks Jarrod). I am new to Mountain Biking so I cannot give you an experienced answer but so far the bike is awesome and I am very happy with it. I'll PM you more details.
  8. Thanks for all the advise guys, I'll go shop around over the weekend and see what I can get!
  9. It will mainly be trail riding and XC, Just leisure weekend rides. I am new to this.
  10. Hi all, I know this has been asked a million times but since a lot of the 2014 models are coming out this might be useful info for others as well. I am looking at getting a new mountain bike and after a lot of investigation I decided to go for a 29" or maybe a 27.5". My budget is <R10k and I had the following models in mind: 2014 Merida Big 7 300 2014 Merida Big Nine 300 2014 Titan 29er Comp 2014 Momsen AL229 The Titan has a Rock Shox XC32 Silver Solo Air Fork and the Momsen a Suntour SR XCR AIR HLO 100. The Merida's either mention the SR 29 XCM HLO 100 or the RST F1rst Air not sure which one they have. Momsen has SRAM X5 Derailleurs while the others have Shimano SLX / M390. Tektro HDC 300/301 brakes except for the Titan with Shimano M430 brakes. What do you think?
