  1. Cool, yeah we should. Were are you based?
  2. Sweet, Yeah at present I am doing about 2.5km twice a week of swimming, 1 spin class and a 3hr-ish bike ride and about 2 hrs of running a week. I am increasing that a little each week until just before Xmas, when I plan to do a "mock half IM" (as I cant get to EL to do the real one), then will rest up until 5 Jan when I kick off with the official 12 week program
  3. Could any of the guys with good experience with IM please give some advice with regards training. I am planning on starting the attached training plan on 5 Jan (14 weeks out from IM) (its a 12 week program, but starting 2 weeks earlier to give myself a bit of a buffer in case anything unforseen comes up and intereferes with the training. The program requires a fairly dececnt starting level of fitness which I am at right now and just maintaining until then... The program seems a little light, but I am prone to overtraining sometimes........what do you guys think? http://mos.triradar.com/Training_Plans/12_Week_Ironman_Programme.pdf
  4. Ok cool. Thanks guys. Guess I better start looking for a set
  5. Hey guys, A bit of a noob question, so I apologise for my ignorance..haha Anyway, I am doing my first IM next year and will be using an ordinary racer. I would love to buy a Tri bike, but financially it is out of the question. So my question is, will adding clip on aero bars really make a difference, or is the set-up on a tri bike that vastly different that I cant really replicate it with clip-ons? I have done a few century rides on this bike already, and they have been okay - but would my time (and money) better be spent just making the most of the road bike, or are clip-ons really a viable option? Any insight and help from those more experienced would be appreciated. Thanks
  6. I was never a terrible swimmer, did the Midmar back when I was in High School, but when I started swimming again recently after signing up for IM I really struggled. Also couldnt do more than about 3 laps without almost drowning. I watched a lot of Total Immersion videos on YouTube and got the basic idea of it from all of that (the course is too much for my budget). The principles of it though have helped me enormously, now about 3 months after starting swimming again, I can easily do 2500m non-stop and did the 5150 swim this weekend without any issues. I have no doubt that the full Total Immersion course would really help, if just a few YouTube videos helped me that much. Im not particularly fast, but the principles have definitely helped me being able to swim long didtances - Its all essentially about relaxing and not fighting the water
  7. I was very happy with the way things went yesterday. I was also a bit concerned by my swim time initially, couldn't understand why I was so slow compared with how long 1500m takes me in the pool. But if it really was 2.1 km, then that means I actually had a bloody good swim. I enjoyed the bike course. Run was painful, my legs were shot because I pushed the bike really hard, will have to do more brick runs in future... Does anyone know what happened with that woman who was knocked down by a car? Looked quite bad
  8. Went and swam at Emmarentia yesterday, but I don't know if Thursdays are such a good day to go - I think the canoe club has something going on Thursdays - there were so many paddlers. They were all going counter clockwise, so swimming in the same direction as them, meant I was looking straight into the sun every time I looked up to try and get my bearings, that coupled with goggles fogging up, meant I really could not see a thing....was not all that pleasant of an experience, but at least I managed to get a bit of practice with the wetsuit in before Sunday's 5150
  9. Im racing this Sunday too. Doing a practice wetsuit swim or 2 at Emmarentia today and tomorrow hopefully.
  10. Will try for tomorrow and/or Friday. Today might be a little tricky with work
  11. Is anyone going to be swimming there this Friday? I'd feel a little more comfortable not swimming there alone....
  12. Hey guys, Pretty new to this forum and thread, but I'm also looking to do a wetsuit swim at Emmarentia this week sometime - to test it out before 5150 this weekend. To all the guys who have swum there before: where is the best place to swim from? I don't want to end up getting mowed over by a canoe or something....
