  1. BLUE ROUTE CLOSURE ON SATURDAY (24 FEBRUARY 2018) Welgelegen farm is hosting a motorbike event this Saturday that crosses the blue route in a number of places. The blue route will therefore be closed till 3 pm on Saturday. The "up" part of the route from the boom up the brick road section will be open. The normal red route over Welgelegen will also be closed. Riders will have to use the alternative red route that links again with the "normal" red route just after the start of the yellow route. The route options that will be closed, will be signposted.
  2. Day permits can now also be bought 24/7 at the Shell Garage, Kruis Road, Brackenfell.
  3. If you are only going to do the green loop, then the only option is to drop down to Zevenwacht for coffee. I think they open at 9 am only - better to check. You will also have a stiff climb back from Zevenwacht to rejoin the green route. Another option is to include the Jordan loop with the green loop and then have coffee at Jordan. (Hazendal will hopefully be up and running again by the end of the year)
  4. Not my work - Trail Blazer did it.
  5. Same spot - November 2014 vs this week.
  6. Spare a thought for the trail fairy when you blast down Fish Eagle this weekend .............
  7. All the fallen trees are being removed by the owner of the farm on which the Ribbok single track is - he is doing a "chainsaw" sweep of the whole section every Friday to clear the route before the weekend. A big thumbs-up for that. Unfortunately the burned trees are falling like pick-up-sticks and it will continue to be a problem as long as the southeaster keeps on pumping, so please be careful when riding that section.
  8. Yes, going the "old" direction - up corkscrew. Will look at the possibility to include the new blue route into the 60 km route next year - want it to "settle down" first before sending a few hundred riders over it.
  9. The 60 km route will be as per your map. The one on the STBB website that includes the bottom part of orange is wrong.
  10. As Hellwarp said
  11. Should be open for riding within the next two weeks - loop is completed; signage being done at present.
  12. Start at Asara and go up the gravel route as per your previous rides. On top of the climb turn into red route. Stick with the red route - it will take you over the hill where you can ride various single track sections on the red and green routes. From green link to red again which will bring you all the way back around the hill to Asara (with the option to ride the yellow route as well).
  13. Yes, blue route joins up with red again and from red you can link to Fish Eagle - just remember to do the second leg of the blue route as well (going down the hill back to red).
  14. It is not really a "new" section- was built late last year, but was then closed down after the fire. Was reopened about two weeks ago after repairs were made. Just ride medium green or the whatever route will take you to the Ribbok single track and you will find this section about 100 meters after the switchback at the end of the downhill run.
  15. Waiting for enough rain .............
  16. Yes, all the way around to link up on the Wolwedans side.
  17. New blue route - about 7 km with at least 5 km of new single track. Should finish building by next Friday - then another week for signposting, sorting out snags, etc.
  18. Ribbok singletrack has been repaired and is open for riding. The extension section on the top however will remain closed, as we need to rebuild most of that section.
  19. We have finished marking the routes today and will test ride it tomorrow (except the 60 km - don't have legs for that!) to ensure all the markers are in place. Just a few comments re the route: - The 60 km will be brutal. It will be harder than the Trailseeker. You will suffer big time if you are not fit. If you struggle on the day, rather divert to the 45 km route when you get to the different route splits. - The same applies to riders doing the 45 km - if you struggle, divert to the 25 km before you go over the top to Contermanskloof. Once over the top, you are in for the whole 45 km - there is no turning back and no escape routes on Contermans. You need to make this call at the first water table on top of Bloemendal where the routes split. - The organisers will monitor the temperature on the day and may decide on cut-off times at certain points on the route. If implemented, strugglers will be instructed to divert to shorter route options. - Road works on the top of St. Johns prevented us from exiting via the small Tygerberg MTB club gate as originally planned, resulting in all routes (except the 5 km) going back to the gate at the top of Odendaal road. This will add another climb and also an extra kilometer or two to some of the routes. - Make sure you have enough sealant in your tyres. Don't even think of riding with tubes (12 km riders should be okay with tubes, as the loop over Altydgedacht is largely thorn-free.)
  20. Please note that the Fish Eagle single track (yellow route) has been diverted after the "river" section below the dam wall due to fire damage on the rest of the trail. Please follow the temporary signage (red arrows on yellow background) until further notice.
  21. There is a bush fire on the Fish Eagle single track - will investigate tomorrow (Monday) and give feedback. In the meantime please do not ride the yellow route until further notice.
  22. The 99er MTB race on 22 April has a 5 km short route for the kiddies.
  23. See the link below for a nice review and pictures of the trail http://cycleculture.bike/exploring-roam-rooiberg/
  24. LeoKnight LeoKnight Posted Today, 20:36 I REALLY enjoy Yellow / Blue / Green, but have not yet done the orange one, how would describe it? ______________________________________________________________________ Orange route is for beginners only - flat jeep track and farm roads.
  25. Just back from Ribbok single track. Fire is out - still some smoke here and there from roots that are still smouldering . Area that burned not too big - minimal damage to trails. Trailblazers crew busy clearing the trails and doing repairs. All sections will be open for riding from tomorrow - just take it easy through the burnt sections as the edges of the trail are loose in places where burning roots caused holes or had to be dug out.
