  1. Just sharing this info from the Rooiberg guys. Rooiberg Breederivier Bewarea - SupermaanritMaandag 14 November sal dit die grootste volmaan in baie jare wees. Ons het dan ons eerste maandelikse volmaanrit. Die roete: 10km by RoamRooiberg, met 6km enkelspoor. Ry soveel rondtes as jy wil. Dit is nie 'n wedren nie! Wanneer: 14 November, begin 20H00. Koste: R30.00 Worsbroodjies R20.00. Daar sal trekpryse wees.
  2. Glad you enjoyed your ride. If you start your ride from Hazendal you will avoid that climb from Zevenwacht and will also finish your ride with the single track sections on green.
  3. Agree with Iwan. The same green route options are available from Zevenwacht, but you will have an extra climb to do - so it just depends on how much exercise you are looking for. Will also take longer to drive to Zevenwacht which may cut into the daylight hours available.
  4. If you start your ride at the Hazendal entrance to the trails you can easily do the medium green or "normal" green loop in 1½ hours. Medium green includes the Ribbok single track in the forest that you had done on Saturday as part of the 30 km route. There are another three sections of really stunning single track (5 km in total) on the green route (Rooikat, Geelslang and Mongoose). There are a number of riders that do after work rides in summer - trails are very safe. There is safe parking at Hazendal - just tell the guard at the gate what time you will be back so that he is aware that it is your car that is still in the parking lot (Hazendal closes at 5 pm). You can buy a day permit at Engen at Soneike shopping centre. If you are going to ride often, then an annual permit will be a better option. Annual permits for 2017 will be on sale the last week in November.
  5. Basic maps and Garmin files are on their facebook page - Rooiberg Breederiver Conservancy MTB Trail https://www.facebook.com/Rooiberg-Breederiver-Conservancy-MTB-Trail-612402318933899/?fref=ts
  6. FREE RIDING ON OPENING DAY The opening of the new 71km Rooiberg Breede River Conservancy MTB Trail takes place on Saturday 15th October at the Rooiberg Cellar 10 kms outside of Robertson. Three routes each with Short, Medium, Long and XL options ranging from 4-40 kms, kiddy friendly, novice friendly, expert friendly! 12 km of single track. Start at the Rooiberg Cellar from 08.00. Safe parking, food and drink options. info 083 453 3526 or on FB at Rooiberg Breede River Conservancy MTB Trail.
  7. No problem - will ride up to there tomorrow morning and sort it out.
  8. We are aware of the first one - is on the maintenance schedule for the coming week - we were doing maintenance on the yellow route this week. Re the second one - there are lots of those around that keep falling over from time to time - they are like pick-up sticks - quite easy to pick up and move. I hope you have removed It from the trail to make it save for riders that will ride down there after you?
  9. No jumps, no drop-offs, no technical sections - just loads of flowing single track. Go and ride the yellow route next time - I think you will like it.
  10. Checked out the route markers this morning - all are in place. You just need to look to your left before you get to the right turn - it is there - same spot as it has been for the last five years. I however have no idea where you saw a tree with "lotsa other signage".
  11. Test riding the new single track today that we are building at Bottelary Hills. Also "riding in" the new Brookes B17 saddle on the Giant. Started building at Bottelary in 2011 with an Anthem 26'er. Upgraded to an Anthem 29'er two years ago - broke the frame beginning of the year and now on third Anthem.
  12. My lunch stop today - beats any 5 star restaurant!. Part of the new single track we are busy building at Bottelary Hills.
  13. Just stay on the marked routes and you will be okay. And make sure you buy a permit before you start your ride (unless you have an annual permit)
  14. Rode everything last weekend to check conditions - trails are mostly in good shape. Will do maintenance as soon as we have some decent rains. Also just waiting for final permission from the relevant parties (and rain) before we will start on a big building project with loads of single track!
  15. There is no change in the route. A restaurant on one of the farms bordering Bottelary tar road had a night ride on this evening, following a route within the borders of that farm and not on the Bottelary routes. Taping of our routes is not on. Will take it up with the restaurant tomorrow.
  16. You have answered your own question - if we had sent 500 riders through Cheeky Corners there would be nothing left of Cheeky Corners with all the braking and dragging of wheels. One must try and limit damage to the trails as much as possible.
  17. One of our members lost his silver Tag Heuer watch on the route today - somewhere on the red route from Rooikat down towards the top of Kaapzicht killer and then down to Goedehoop. Please PM me if you find it.
  18. Day permits can be bought at Engen 24/7 and at Hazendal coffee shop from 8 am. You can access the red route from the entrance opposite Hazendal - just follow the arrows - first section will be pink arrows to take you to the green route - then follow the green arrows to the top of Kaapzicht Killer (a "nice" little climb) - on top of Kaapzicht Killer there is a map and arrows that will direct you onto the red route. From there just follow the red arrows all the way around. I would recommend that you finish you ride by following the green route back to Hazendal at the end of your ride, otherwise you are going to miss out on beautiful single track sections.
  19. More maintenance was done this week after the rains - only sections that remain are the exit of Ribbok and then Rooikat, Geelslang and Mongoose. It is still too dry to work on the sections on the green route- hopefully they can be done after the rain forecasted for mid next week. The team also did some work on the rock garden on Lizard - see photo (click on photo to see the bypass on the right) . Riders now have the option to ride the rock garden or ride an easier option next to it.
  20. That whole section (up to the rock) has been rebuilt.
  21. Work on Fish Eagle is completed. See photo for the bypass of the steep little climb - that section now flows beautifully. Spare a thought for the trail builders who had to dig and move all that soil by hand. Also started with work on Protea Alley, but had to stop further work on other sections until it rains again.
  22. Open for riding - need wheels on it!
  23. With the rain arriving at last we have started with maintenance. Currently busy on Fish Eagle (yellow route). All the bridges have been covered with chicken mesh, two of the rutted drop-offs as well as the rubbish dump section have had a made-over with grass-blocks and two boggy sections have been sorted out with a board-walk and grass-blocks. The team has also started rebuilding the single track sections. Work on Fish Eagle should be completed by Wednesday next week and we will then move on to the other single track sections that need attention. The rutted sections on Mongoose (green route) are still a problem. Have tested the soil today and it is still too dry to start working there - so please be patient, we need more rain on those sections.
  24. If you did 22 km then there are another 40 kilometers to do - see the video below for some sections you missed out on. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2EZcEclYAs&feature=youtu.be
  25. We have opened up a route via the culverts underneath Bottelary Road to enable riders to access the trails without having to cross Bottelary road - see attached map and photos. The route is marked with pink arrows. It might get flooded during winter, but should provide safe access to the route for at least 9 months per year.
