  1. Looking for recommendations for trustworthy solar installers in Cape Town ( Northern Suburbs - Durbanville) . Thanks.
  2. The Bike Park is now open. Permit sales, coffee shop and toilets all functioning! Opening hours are 09.00-17.00 Mon-Sun. Free access to Bottelary Hills MTB trails annual permit holders.
  3. The Zevenwacht downhill course is not part of the Bottelary network.
  4. Had the same problem with two Mavic rims. Took it to Knipe Racing in Durbanville who use some type of resin to seal the holes, drill new valve holes, add rim tape and I had two brand new rims. Maybe there is a bike shop around where you are that can do the same for you?
  5. Save to ride alone. All routes all non technical - no comparison to any of the cobra's. Would recommend you ride red from Hazendal (first section will be pink arrows, then green arrows and red will split away from green on top of the first big climb) , link up with yellow on Stellenbosch side, back to red again and finish off with green back to Hazendal.
  6. In the early days of Tygerberg MTB club (+- 12 years ago) we were invited by the manager of the Blaauwberg reserve to look at the possibility to build trails on Blaauwberg hill. They took us up there in a 4x4. My memory is a bit faded due to too many hours on the bike in the sun (not old-age!), but I think the decision at the time was that it would be too expensive to build trails there due to the nature of the terrain. We also started building Meerendal around that time. (Tygerberg at that stage had fewer than 300 members).
  7. A few years ago we visited Dutch speaking friends in Belgium and took a stuffed toy lion with us a present for their 3 year old granddaughter who happened to be at their house when we arrived. We took out the lion and gave it to the little girl, only to hear grandma say " Kijk wat ze uit Zuid-Afrika hebben meegebracht - een grote po*s !!
  8. Buy a permit at Engen Soneike 24/7. You can park inside Hazendal. I am riding from Hazendal parking lot at 7 am tomorrow if you want to join. White Jetta. Riding red and green routes and maybe yellow as well. Medium pace.
  9. I was part of the team that opened the trails in 2011 and was also trail manager until 2018. The rule regarding night riding is quite simple (as Hellwarp had posted a few posts ago): "if you need a bikelight on the trails to see where you are going then you are either too early or too late". The reference to sunrise and sunset on the website is wrong. I assume the mistake occurred when the website was overhauled last year. So, yes, you can ride in the twilight period before sunrise or after sunset as long as you don't need to use a light.
  10. There is a nice 20 km loop to the south of the town. Follow the main road towards the NG Church in the middle of the town. At the stop in front of the church, turn right. Next stop will be in front of the hotel (think it is guest lodge now). To the left of the hotel will be tar road between the hotel and a shop (not sure if it is still operational). Follow that tar road - do not take any turn offs. it will cross the river , go pass the caravan park and will turn into a gravel road. About 7 km from the hotel a smaller dirt road will cross the road. Turn left onto the smaller dirt road and keep going for about 8 km till you get to a big dirt road again. Turn left and head back to town.
  11. As stated, the bike park is aimed at kids, not adults. Therefore adult members of Bottelary and Tygerberg can ride for free with their kids. The idea is to enable adults to ride with their kids without having to buy a permit for themselves. There is no long routes on Hazendal - for that you need to go and ride Bottelary. Hazendal permit costs is R50 per kid - not R70. Not sure what R70 deal you are referring to. Bottelary is a separate permit @R60 - nothing to do with Hazendal.
  12. The bike park at Hazendal is aimed at kids. The previous "long" trail across the farm that also catered for adults was closed down due to a golf course development. This is why the decision was made to allow adult members of Tygerberg and Bottelary to ride for free when they bring their kids. There are enough riding options to keep the kids busy.
  13. Hazendal Family Bike park now offers free entry for ADULT permit holders of Bottelary when they bring their kids to ride at Hazendal. Kids must buy a permit even if they are Bottelary members.
  14. Hazendal Family Bike park now offers free entry for ADULT permit holders of Tygerberg and Bottelary when they bring their kids to ride at Hazendal. Kids must buy a permit even if they are Tygerberg or Bottelary members.
  15. The STBB4GOOD MTB Challenge and Family Day will be taking place on Saturday 12 October 2019 at Overgaauw Wine Estate in Stellenbosch over the Bottelary Hills MTB Trails and Conservancy. The aim of this event is to raise funds for the Miles for Smiles Foundation. Distances: 60km | 45km | 30km | 12km | 5km ENTRIES OPENING 27 MAY 2019
  16. I am on my third Anthem frame. Both broken frames replaced within a week. Each one lasted about 2½ years.
  17. @ ChrisF The bike park is family orientated - no jumps, drop-offs, etc., but with a variety of trail options and features. Most of the visitors are families who come and ride with their kids, but there are also a fair number of adult riders who have just started MTB'ing and want to hone their skills. If Maritz likes riding the B-Spot, he would love the flow trail that is part of the park at Hazendal. As far as distance is concerned, there is a 5 km loop consisting mostly of single track, but also with a number of rollers and berms. Send me a PM with your details and I will arrange complimentary tickets for you and Maritz to come and ride at Hazendal this weekend.
  18. We have completed two new features at the Hazendal Bike Park this week. On the Snail Trail you can test your steering and balance abilities on this short but testing trail. Can you get around without putting a foot down.? The Fynbos Trail, aka the Red Mamba, a 350m trail made of recycled pallets complete with wooden rollers, is a fun feature for all the family! The 5 km route also received some attention. Hazendal will open up the upgraded restaurant and bistro facilities around middle December. There will also be shower facilities for cyclists.
  19. We rode the last part of your planned trip (Dordrect to Bruges) as part of our Rhine Radweg trip in 2017 - see https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/170921-riding-the-rhine-river-cycle-route/?hl=dirtman&do=findComment&comment=3225431 70 km per day as per your plan is easy to do and will leave enough time for sight-seeing and coffee stops. Just be beware of the wind - we were unable to ride all the way from Zierikzee to Bruges due to the strongest wind I have ever encountered on a bike in my life. The cycle routes in Netherland are marked with a number system and are easy to follow with maps at all the "knooppunte" (route splits). The routes in Belgium uses the same system, but without maps at every knooppunt and we did get lost a few times. We used AirBnB's in Dordrecht, Zierikzee and Bruges that were very nice and affordable. There is also an association in Netherland and Belgium called "Vrienden op de Fiets" ( https://www.vriendenopdefiets.nl/en/page/how-does-it-work ) which you can join for 10 euros. You can then overnight at any of their members for a payment of 19 euros per person per night which includes breakfast. We made use of this on a few occasions and it was great.
  20. Went riding for a week in Namaqualand (Nababeep, Springbok and Kamieskroon) two weeks ago with a friend. Managed to pick the coldest week of the year, but still had a blast.
  21. Quite a number - going up there next week to tag all the trees that need to be removed / cut down.
  22. This is the router from last year, so I am not sure how the actual 60km route will look... Route.gif Hope we can get clarity on this. The route will be the same as last year as per your map. We will start clearing and rebuilding the Ribbok single track within the next two weeks - hopefully all the trees are down now. (Just doing the route for the race - can't help with the website!)
  23. The STBB MTB Challenge on 13 October starting at Overgaauw outside Stellenbosch has a fun, easy 5 km kiddies option as well. Details on https://www.stbb.co.za/stbb-mtb-2018/
  24. Still closed - please follow red arrows on yellow background. Will look to reopen it after the winter when all the burned trees would hopefully have toppled over. Just to dangerous at the moment.
  25. See post as below. There were two trees down on the diverted section on Saturday. Posted 21 February 2018 - 01:15 CLOSURE OF RIBBOK SINGLE TRACK Due to the danger posed by falling trees, we have decided to close the Ribbok single track as of this Friday for the next couple of months until such time as most of the burned trees have toppled over and it is safe to ride the single track again. Temporary signage will be put up to divert riders along the bottom of Ribbok. Please note that Medium Green will also be closed down as a result of the closure of Ribbok. Long green remains open.
