  1. You should use Racing Ralphs Snakeskins on the back and Rocket Rons on the front. You want fast rolling tyres at the back and high grip tyres at the front. Have done a few Epics and Pioneers with the combination without any punctures or blowouts. Only negative is that the Racing Ralphs last relatively short (slicks) before it needs replacing.
  2. I have done more than 6000km on the same cassette and chain ring, and as mentioned before, only put on a new chain once. Waiting for XO1 to replace the cassette
  3. I've been riding XX1 for 8 months, including the Epic and various other races, and has only replaced the chain once (three weeks ago). The chain ring and cassette is still perfect. Used to much more wear previously riding XTR and XX
  4. You can fit X0 rings. Less than half the price. I did it with mine and works like a dream.
  5. Enjoyed the previous ride. Will see you on Sunday
  6. We're coming back on Saturday after the Ultra. You can contact me on 0824953351. Emle
  7. Ek en 'n vriend stel belang om Sondag saam met julle te ry. Sal jy jou kontakbesonderhede vir my epos asseblief?
  8. I have just converted from a 2010 Evolve SST to the new 2012 Trek Gary Fisher Superfly 100 Pro. Did extensive research and spoke to a lot of riders at the Cape Pioneer, and the Gary Fishers are highly rated for stage racing.
  9. You will only need to pay import duties if you declare it when arriving at Joburg Airport. Personally I just walk through "Nothing to declare" with the bike in a bike bag. I have never been stopped and have brought back 7 bikes so far. Furthermore you can claim back the VAT (currently 17.5%) when taking the bike out of the EU. Just ask for a VAT Refund Form when purchasing the bike, have it stamped at HM Customs, post it back to the shop and they will refund it into your credit card. Some shops don't always know how to do it, so I suggest Evans Cycles (they're the biggest cycle shop in the UK).

    Slime

Your bikes probably don't have UST type tyres on, and they do cost R500+ per tyre. Personally I would suggest the best budget option is to keep the tyres you got with the bikes and just put in tubes with slime in. They are sub R100 and way less than doing a complete tubeless conversion.
  11. I have converted to a 2010 Evolve from 2 previous Specialized Epics (26"). The Evolve gives me massive confidence and I ride over obstacles where all my buddies have to get of and push. I also feel much more comfortable doing stage events. It comes highly recommended. Will never be able to go back to small wheels again. Attached photo of my bike.
