  1. Hi it seems like you had a hectic ordeal. Last year I also had an incident with a driver which turned bad very fast. There are a couple of things to remember the first is to keep your cool no matter what and the second point is that 99% of the time it is not an intentional act on the drivers side. Take a deep breath it will help. If you feel it was intentional take down the number plate and call the cops.
  2. I agree with Mutt, it not safe to ride with a cut that goes right through the Tyre. I have used a patch on the inside of a Tyre as a temporary fix just to get home, but I would not risk it for too long.
  3. Cycle Lab is a business the club is there to promote that business, the approach I have is to continue raising this issue to the club. We all know that if the group riders continue with there current way of riding there will be a accident somewhere down the line. When I started riding I did similar things firstly because of inexperience and also because of my attitude, after one or two close call my attitude has changed and unfortunately I suppose this will have happen here too. The other point Lefty mentions is also true other riders jumping on the back of a already large group does not help the situation. We are now entering the silly season in Cape Town lets try and let cool heads prevail.
  4. I was not privy to the incident Lefty mentioned but while I was out there both these clubs had a few infringements. I find that if the guys ride in there club colours it is easy to contact the club after the ride and bring up these issues, like I said they were very helpful and insured me that they will try there best to improve. I do not expect them to improve overnight but they have assured me they will bring this matter up before there next club ride. I think that those of us who do not ride for a club should maybe also raise some of the concerns highlighted by these threads to our friends and lets try and make the road a safer place.
  5. Hi Guys This thread and the previous one started because of some club riders being inconsiderate on Saturday morning. I was riding in the area mentioned by Lefty on Saturday morning and will therefore make the assumption that it was either Cycle Lab or Club 100 as they where the largest groups out there. Both of these Clubs seem to have the same problems as we approach Argus season (This is similar to what happened at the crater a few weeks ago) in that they have to many members. I have contacted the clubs and conveyed to them the problems some of us are experiencing with them. They were very helpful and promised they they would address these issues. They also encourage future communication with the public so that they could address any future issues.
  6. Why so sensitive Cassie I am from the WC too. If you start taking every comment on the hub as a attack on you then this is going to be a long day. BTW some of the guys who jump in are cheap skate friends of mine who have the attitude that they ride the local roads all the time why should they pay.
  7. What most guys in the WC do is just join the group from 1 km down the rode. They will even collect there free coke at the end.

    Fail

These photo's are legit. I heard an interview on Cape Talk with the owner of the trucking company, apparently the kid jump on the truck for a free lift and the driver was unaware. The cops did pull them over but the kid fled.
  9. The best thing to do while still riding is pour water over the affected area drop down a few gears and spin for a couple of minutes. After about 10 minutes or so I find I can usually pick up a couple of gears and then suffer to the end
  10. I did my first Vets race a few weeks ago and saw a guy do this in the bunch and though WTF . I mean if you going to spit or blow your nose you go to the back or pull to the side of the bunch, this guy without warning just started doing his business and everybody had to move out of the way.
  11. You will find that most people who spend a lot of time on the road obey the rules. Not because they are nice guys but because these rules keep them safe. The best advice I ever got about safety is stay as far to the left of the road as possible.
  12. I think the main problem is that because of the 94.7 there are just to many cyclists on the road right now. In the Cape we have the same problem in the Southern Suburbs which starts around January, hell there are so many cyclist on the road in the month before the Argus the even start to test my patience.
  13. Unless you are a mountain goat those climbs in the first 60km of the DC take quite a bit out of you. I used a 12-23 last year and started to cramp at about 190km, This year I will give it a go with the 12-25.
  14. Will be 2 years on 16 Dec
  15. The calculations I made both used the adjusted winners time (Last years WCE they adjusted the winning time buy almost 15 minutes) but with the new formula there is a difference of 2-3 points. The problem is as seem last week with the crash cycling is getting very popular and as it is to expensive to have full road closure the have to find way to thin out the front groups.
