  1. Thks everyone for your comments ; I concur ,used to be a great summer evening ride ;after work . Unfortunately the "detritus" has mounted in the area . Should anyone be interested let me know .0834471179 Hout bay resident
  2. Anyone ridden up the Karbonkelberg mountain behind Hangberg in recent times. Used to be a good hour ride to the top overlooking dungeons surf break. unfortunately was badly eroded the last time we tried a couple of years ago . Be interested to hear your comments
  3. I was not aware that such a device existed time to get your knowledge updated Check any giant website in the 1st world . look for Giant Conduct Disc Brake,Giant dealers only
  4. Anyone have a tool used above for Giant Conduct cable/hydraulic disc brake adopter ? If so would you be able to hire it for setting the hydraulic unit after fitting ? or do the setting thks Tony 0834471179 Hout bay
  5. NICE ONE!!! Unfortunately we will all pay the price eventually ,as they will just adjust prices UPWARDS. With the currency adjusted to junk status for import purposes new bikes are going to cost car prices . It's happening already ;200k for Cannondale, rather buy a 2nd hand Ducati 999.and have something of value between your legs! If you shop around its still not worth importing from Chain Reaction most of the time.
  6. Don't mention Mavic!!! Just place order in basket and then convert to rand. Billing/delivery local SA address . their system is geared for protectionizum!!
  7. You must be riding a lot to wear that out in a year , Suggest you look at Chain reaction cycles web Middleburn rings they probably a little more expensive but will last a lot longer,CNC coated in high grade ali, and you dont pay local Shimano ripoff prices ! slx is definately a down grade ,thats why its cheaper , Wear in the chainrings is often associated with keeping chains to long, this knocks on to the cassette as well, so it really does not make sense to save money in this critical usage area . Good luck.
  8. Heat , buy a paint sripper gun heavy duty type.but will mess the frame coating as well If your patient you will also be able to release the pin by heating and dosing the joint with penerating oil,or WD40 type product . Thk goodness for steel , very robust ,dont try it on CARBON unless you have good life assurance
  9. Use Magura hydraulic rim brakes ,check CRC for really good prices . They are definative rim brakes , used on a tandem tourer and early downhill. The trick guys still use them ,only downside mud ,and how often do you ride in that ?
  10. Your local quality shop should be able to offer reducers ,failing that try: Chain Reaction cycles mail order ,they supply reducers of many different sizes and service is brilliant . They are the biggest in the world generally prices are good too.
  11. This sounds as though Merida are taking a leaf out of Cannondale technology, I think the Dale headshok uses that size , not sure exaclly will need to go to the workshop and check. If that is the case you will be able to buy from the Dale agents ,but be prepared for a big bill for 2 sealed bearing They also do a reducer kit which will allow you to install your 1 1/8 fork into the head tube . I see Dales are now offered with nornal forks on the cheaper range ,so the shops should be able to supply those inserts Alternatively find a friendly machine shop whom will machine reducers to fit directly into your frame ,from where you can install a standard (cheaper ) conventional head set to match your fork . If you are in CT contact Wesley at Tungsten Engineering , he will help ,hes been doing these things from the early days of MTB for quite complex installations of triple crown forks. Good luck
  12. couple of options: 1. Ride titanium , its far and away more compliant . 2 Use a qaulity suspension pin, USE is the simplist and works well if you really have too! 3. Ride more ,develop your callous 4.Use tyres like the Michelin range with the heavier side walls run 2 bar , feel the traction everywhere . Good luck
  13. The hanger bolt in the derailler can get bent just a little and this immediately effects the throw particalary in the middle of the block for an unfathomable reason. You will have to dimantle the top end of the RD to see it . Ive also experienced bent and broken springs at both ends in the older low range models. Good luck if you dismantle, make sure you maintain a hold on the hanger body if you remove any of the clips/nuts ,or you will spend the day looking for the wayward spring which can travel amazing distant., believe me .
