  1. Was wondering the same thing - found this article saying he's taking a break from cycling in 2017... http://www.treadmtb.co.za/james-reid-its-time-to-move-away-from-professional-cycling/
  2. Pretty sure the Kargo MTB team no longer exists (as of end of 2016)
  3. I don't personally - at least not by dealer. I only filter when looking for something specific. EDIT: Perhaps I got off on a tangent - you were asking about the annoyance related to type of advert and filtering. I responded about annoyance in relation to the specific seller mentioned.
  4. I don't think it is the type of advert that annoys people so much as the MO of that particular seller. Not making a statement about whether it is right or wrong, just saying that is the cause of the annoyance in my understanding.
  5. Subtitle is misleading - Adventurers Martin and Jeannie Dreyer have become the first people to ride mountain bikes to the top of Africa’s highest peak, Mount Kilimanjaro. I've been fortunate enough to climb Kili, and when I read this title, I couldn't imagine how it would be possible to ride some of the sections. As the article itself states, there was a lot of pushing and carrying of the bikes, likely even more of that than actual riding. EDIT: Regardless, big congrats to Martin and Jeannie. Tremendous accomplishment! I cannot imagine doing the final ascent carrying a bike!
  6. I can't comment on what happened in the other thread, but I really don't think that anyone was encouraging the inappropriate behaviour on this thread (on either side). I think whatever "support" was given was in reference to the point being made. Unfortunately, due the fact that it was interlaced with personal comments, I think whatever constructive feedback was being offered was lost (on both sides). In simpler terms, the WHAT was being said was missed because of HOW it was said. On a lighter note, as a self admitted pedantic who does get annoyed by all the "breaks" for sale in the classifieds, it is refreshing to see a hubber use that spelling of the word in its proper context. Although it is disappointing that one feels that it is necessary to make that choice.
  7. A good reminder for all of us. Thought I'd just post some relevant sections as it was mentioned that some information is difficult to access via phone... What you should be doing on The Hub: ● Be friendly and polite. Every member deserves to be treated with respect. Positive and polite posts create a friendly and welcoming environment that all members will feel comfortable in. ● Think before posting. Sensible, well thought-out and legible posts help other members understand what is being explained. We will not tolerate comments and behaviour which: 1 Is abusive or disruptive. This includes: 1.1 Swearing or otherwise foul language (including abbreviations or alternative spellings). 1.2 Harassment and threats: Purposely intimidating a particular member, harassing them, sending them rude or unwanted private messages, etc. Any threat or intimation of a threat. 1.3 Personal attacks / flaming: You may dispute somebody's opinion but not attack/flame the person who stated it.
  8. And here I thought it was Sunday... seems like a hub Friday
  9. Carry the lightie - extra training
  10. I believe this should be happening in about 7-8 hours
  11. Would love to see the end result...
  12. Or transport services from Johannbesburg
  13. I agree concerning the "one hit wonders" - as you said, what is the point. However, I think the reason a lot of people ask (I sometimes do) is that there a lot of sellers that sell an item and never update the advert to sold or delete it. I can't tell you how many times I've found an item and contacted the seller to purchase and then get a reply that it is sold. Advert is still active and no "sold" on it anywhere. And often see the advert still running weeks later.
  14. And on the flip side, guys actually advertising brand new items are also having to specify that it is not used. They shouldn't have to include that as well, but seems like they need to in order to differentiate from the brand new/used items.
  15. Just saw another one..."I have a brand new... I used it once..." So which one is it? Can't be both.
  16. Nice bike!
  17. I've noticed that most that fall into this category end up proving your point by their responses. Actually gets quite entertaining sometimes
  18. Just to add to my previous comments - In my experience, most "innocent" (aka ignorant) sellers appreciate more knowledgeable hubbers suggestions for advert corrections. And they respond accordingly. There are, however, those few that seem to take any suggestion that something in their advert is incorrect as a personal attack and respond aggressively. You are never going to "win" that battle, so best to just let it go.
  19. At a certain point it becomes pointless. Some sellers just going to insist they are right.
  20. I'd also like to know the answer to that one. Or what about this bike achieved a podium finish at such and such a race. Ummm pretty sure it didn't do that on its own.
  21. Except when the seller pulls the advert with the comments and then reposts, still with incorrect information
  22. I don't think ignorance is an excuse. Even if it is innocent, it is not correct. A fork purchased in 2016, but manufactured in 2013, has significant differences from a 2016 model. If you are going to sell on the hub, then it is the seller's responsibility to make sure that the information is correct. If the seller is unsure of the year model, then state that they are unsure. What really get's me is when they "innocently" post incorrect information, get corrected by a knowledgeable hubber, and then aggressively attack the one who pointed out the error and insist they are right.
  23. Me too! I'm sure that comment is not in reference to any particular advert
