  1. I've lost count of how many times I've seen that particular spelling mistake. Love your comment on the post Patchelicious.
  2. Ok, so I already posted a whole thread on this, but the one that really gets me is advertising used items as "brand new" - as in bike is brand new, used less than 500km. I have no problem with a used item being in "as new" condition, but something cannot be brand new and used at the same time.
  3. Or listing all the specs on a bike as "standard"
  4. Thanks for keeping us updated.
  5. My first attempt at posting in this thread...
  6. All the best. Hoping for a successful surgery and speedy recovery!
  7. I have to admit - this is one of the things I love about the hub. I don't know hellocolour. hellocolour does not know me. I've never even had a direct conversation with hellocolour. And yet, because of a common passion for cycling, hellocolour is willing to make an offer such as this with a bike of this caliber. Even if it never happens, the gesture is greatly appreciated! EDIT - And I'm not even close to meeting the Routjxie rule.
  8. Thanks for the offer! Think I'm going to need to find an excuse to figure out where you ride
  9. Thanks for the mini review. Definitely makes me want to try one!
  10. Wow. Great looking bike. Eager to hear the long term report!
  11. Sweet dreams...
  12. No worries. Apology accepted. It's all good. Just to add to the rest of the story, I did post on that thread, and pm'd the guys that made the accusation. The guys did go back on the post with an additional post to correct the information. And the information is half right - I do try and grab bargains when available - if it is something I need. But it is because I use it (that thread explains why so no need to repeat here). I don't purchase for the purpose of resale. I do sell stuff from time to time when there are "leftovers" from a build to try and help fund the next one.
  13. Just found this thread and did actually take the time to read all 23 pages. Just a few observations that have mostly been noted... I've been buying and selling (mostly buying) on the hub for years and by far most hubbers I've dealt with have been a pleasure. But yes, I have encountered a few of the complaints on this thread too. The golden rule has been mentioned - I think the trouble comes when we also expect to receive the treatment we give, and the reality is that some people just don't operate that way. "A good name is to be desired more than great riches." - A principle I've tried to live by, and it seems many other hubbers agree - your word means something. As has been mentioned, there are some that it doesn't and they are willing to sacrifice their word for a few rand more. Frustrating when you have accepted their word in good faith, but it is an unfortunate reality that some don't value their word. This thread also highlights the importance of good communication - I wonder how many of these situations could have been avoided by good communication between buyer and seller, including verbalising expectations. The trader feedback is a valuable tool, but only works if people use it. And yes, I am one of those guys who has been on the classifieds for years, but have a very low post count. Does than make me a bad person? Incidentally, my "introduction" to the forums of "reputable" hubbers was when I was accused of being one of those guys that poaches bargains and then resells at a markup. But no one bothered to check if it was true before making the accusations.
  14. Just had a similar one. Guy negotiated price down on what was already a reasonable price, but we agreed on a deal. I arranged to have the bike delivered to him, and he agreed to pay the cash to the driver. When the bike arrives, he claims the frame is cracked (was just the paint), but I had disclosed this prior to the agreement. I say fine, send the bike back with the driver if he's not happy. So then he says will I take R500 off the price. Now tell me, if you honestly believed a bike had a cracked frame, would you buy it for just R500 less than an unbroken one?
  15. Thanks for all the suggestions. I FINALLY succeeded in getting the seatpost out last night. Many days of pounding and twisting and different penetrating lubes. But it is out. I’m not sure if it was the combination of everything or just finally got the right one in the end. The last one I tried was Q10 (not Q20). I put lots of it on and let it sit overnight, and then lots more and was finally able to get it out. I removed the saddle attachment which left a good size hole on either side of the top of the KCNC post. Inserted a long screwdriver through the top and hit the handle with a rubber mallet. With all the Q10 in there, it worked! Now, does anyone have any suggestions for how I might be able to remover all the "gunk" on the seatpost without removing the gold finish?
  16. Long story, but a recently acquired bike has a seized seatpost. It is a KCNC Scandium seatpost in a carbon frame. Anyone have any magic tricks for getting it out? I've read a lot of the online articles, but haven't had any success as yet. Hoping to be able to get away without having to cut the seatpost out.
  17. Does anyone happen to know if I can convert my 9mm Shimano FH-M756 hub to a 15mm?
  18. Hi. I've got a 2005 Rock Shox SID Team fork that I've recently aquired. I want to use v brakes on it, but unfortunately, it did not come with the post mounts, so I'm trying to find some. I picked up a couple different ones from my LBS, but none of them fit (I didn't realise there were so many different sizes for post mounts!). Does anyone happen to know what size this fork takes? I've looked online, but can't seem to find it. The closest I found was a technical manual from Rock Shox, which says M6, but on the diagram it is pointing to the front of the mount, so I believe that is the bolt size required to hold the v-brakes on, not the size that goes into the fork? Can anyone help???
  19. Thanks Johan - that is what I was afraid of, but thought I would check just in case I could get away with using a V2 BB.
  20. I didn't either until I started trying to find another BB for my frame!
  21. Does anyone know if you can mix and match Shimano Octalink V1 and V2 parts? I've got an old XTR crankset I want to put on an old school rebuild that I am doing. However the BB that it came with is for 68mm bottom bracket width and I need one for a 73mm bottom bracket width. The XTR cranks use V1 octalink bb, but they seem very hard to find, or very expensive if you do find one. The V2 octalink bb's seem much more readily available. Can I use a V2 octalink bb with my XTR cranks?
  22. How do I edit my own topic title in a post? When I click the "edit" button, it only allows me to edit the text within the post, not the title.
  23. Anybody know of a good place to get a frame painted in Durbs? Would like to get more than one colour if possible.
