Just thought I'd add a bit about the "when to return" thought. The NFL has done extensive research on concussions. I was going to post their 5 step protocol for return to play, but it is pretty much the same as what has already been posted. However, I did want to add this quote as it is hugely important... "Each player and each concussion is unique, and there is no set time-frame for return to participation. Team medical staff consider the player’s current concussive injury, as well as past exposures and medical history, family history and future risk in managing a player’s care." On another point - please tell us you are not using the helmet anymore!

I am not medical fundi, but have recently moved to the USA. I was surprised at what a huge issue concussions have become here. My kids in high school sports all have to sign stacks of paperwork stating they know and understand the signs of concussion and that they will report it immediately if they have any, or know of anyone who does. Blurred vision and dizziness are certainly some of the key signs. They are not allowed to participate in any sport without signing the papers. Anyone who has signs of concussion is not allowed to return to sport until cleared by a doctor. More to the point of your question, there is no set time for staying off the bike, etc. It is a case by case basis, depending on the severity of the symptoms and previous history. Hence the reason for clearance by a medical professional before being allowed to return. I'm pretty sure I have copies of the paperwork on concussions somewhere if you are interested in some lengthy reading...

That is a tough one. It would be one thing if you could actually communicate with the guy and let him know that you are going to do that if he doesn't come right. But the fact that he's blocking and ignoring everyone does not even make that possible. In one sense, I agree - he has not accepted responsibility and suffering the consequences of that is not your responsibility. However, I also understand that you realise he's still young and obviously immature and your actions could have a lifelong impact on him. Is it worth it? And here you are wrestling with whether you want to go down that road, and the one causing the dilemma isn't even aware and doesn't seem to care.

Unless the hubs have rotor mounts. I've had a couple sets of wheels that had v brake rims and rotor mounts on the hubs so could be used for either.

Agreed. And any reputable bike shop selling used bikes would do a thorough check and make sure they are not busted before leaving the shop.

Well, I'll throw a vote for the KTM. Just kidding. Between the two options mentioned I'd definitely agree with the others so far that the Cannondale is easily the better choice.
