  1. A lot to read through but I sure am starting today.
  2. Use a goo pro-Biotic and use some re-hidration remidy and you will be pedaling in a day or two.
  3. Layering is the best. Buy long sleeve under layers and wear your summer bib over that and then as an outer use a good quality jacket. That can give you 2 layers of fleece with a layer in the middle. Just remember shoe covers. I start riding 04:30 in the morning and these days the average temp is 4 to 7 C. For those of you wanting to import remember custom duties on clothing is hectic.
  4. Anyone training for this event who wants a partner over the weekend please let me know.
  5. Anyone in for a ride this weekend? Any time is fine with me but Saturday will be best. I want to do 80% dirt with a good amount of climbing involved. The ride must be at least 4 to 5 hours long and cover 80 km. I can set up the route or I am up for any suggestions.
  6. I am doing 3 early rides this week. Please contact me if you want to come with. I can meet you anywhere from Rooihuiskraal to Hatfield but preferably closer to Monument Park if we actually want to spend time riding together. I'll send you my contact details or give you a call if you are interested. Please inbox. Alex
  7. Where does one start Breeds Nek. And more importantly where does one park safely. I desperately need to that as part of my training. Alex
  8. That is a very good idea. I will definitely make use of it in the future. I do not know that area too much and would love to go riding there with someone who can show me around. Alex
  9. Still no one said much about De Wildt, Should I skip it in favour of local Groenkloof, Klapperkop ...
  10. I guess that is about 9 km, to simulate the monster i'd need to almost do 9 laps. Laps create confidence and confidence causes connections with the trees. but my speed around that track is not the fastest out there so maybe confidence is what I need.
  11. I did klapperkop as I stay next to it. The climb to the lower radio tower on the back of the trail is harsh but manageable. The golf club side is nice but I can see has potential to cut some tyres. Maybe next weekend I'll do Klapperkop, Groenkloof and Voortrekker Monument in one go. After that it should be "easy rides" to save the legs for the 24th. That right only two weeks to prepare.
  12. Hi Although De Wildt got canceled I am still riding there this weekend as they are offering some peace ride on the race route. My question is except for the actual monster and extra distance is this good training for the monster? Then I have one weekend before the Monster to train some more skills. Where is a good place in Pretoria/Johannesburg to do Monster technical training.
  13. Hi, There will still be marshals and free entry to the route. The event is SEMI on but wont be timed and no prize giving. The next race is 08 November. Well that is what I got told. I made plans to go there so I guess I will still rock up and enjoy the ride.
  14. Why was this race canceled. I already entered and spent the money. What now?
  15. Anyone for a lift to De Wildt this weekend for the race?
  16. Seems like you guys want to join
  17. @Andymann, I do not have indoor equipment at the moment. I look like slick layered idiot and is braving the elements. I want a road bike but my pregnant wife will lock me out after the first ride if I spend more money on cycling...lol But I will contact you maybe following you guys for just a few kilometers might just help me improve my average. I sometimes do this by chasing some of the roadies from a distance.
  18. @Orbit. Hi I stay in Monument park and from me the best would be if I ride past Brooklyn mall and into Jan Shoba / Duncan street. I am sure we will be able to hook up there round about 05:00. We will be able to cover the area around Brooklyn, Groenkloof, Hatfield and Klapperkop. Depending where we part I need 15 to 30 mins to get home at 06:30. I normally start 04:30. As I mentioned my goal is to ride two hours in total at +- 25km/h depending on terrain. Going faster on my MTB is a challenge for me at this stage. On weekends Saturdays are the best but Sundays are not imposible. I am Normally flexible but it is better to start sometimes in the morning as as the risk of being tempted to have a beer or too much to eat is eliminated.
  19. Ok, I had one ride through this topic with someone on Saturday. I will keep this thread alive for some time to see if I can bring together a few Pretorian lonesome riders to form a pool of riders that can get to know each other and go for rides. At this stage I do not think this will turn into a regular group ride wit set time. If interested contact me or post to the thread. I went riding with someone not at the same pace as myself and did not mind at all. Alex
  20. Hi I am looking for people to ride with in Pretoria, especially the east. During the week I usually start 04:30 or 05:00 and ride 2 hours or 1.5 hours until 06:30. Weekends I usually try to ride for 4 or 5 hours on Saturday or Sunday. Weekends I try to be adventurous in the routes I ride and during the week I stick to the road and it is all for training. I cycle on a Mountain Bike and on the road I try to maintain 25km/h. Alex
  21. I'd really like to try it out. I've never been. Riding there from PTA is not an option. Where is a good place to Park my car and start?
  22. Hi, Iive in Monument Park next to Groenkloof. I am also training for the monster. I ride 2 hours three times a week in the morning from 04:30. Weekends I do offroad and longer rides. I need to team up for safety and the social factor. alexander.lombard@gmail.com
