  1. Any conditions in Joining you guys. What terrain do you do. The 21 seems easy enough depending terrain. Also I have two lights but when it comes to serious off road the do not help much.
  2. Will you do groenkloof again sometime soon?
  3. Ok things back to normal. My girl was born healthy and the inlaws are trickling back to their parts of SA. I am at home for 7 Days. Will do Groenkloof, Wonderboom and some tar riding. Anyone up for a ride contact me. I cant hit it hard 7 days straight so there will be long rides, short rides and some intense rides and just for fun rides. Contact me if you want to join.
  4. Hi I live in Makou street. What is your availability like this week. I am at home the next 5 days and want to ride every day.
  5. I think I will definitely try this system as soon as I can build a shelter. Unfortunately wont work well if left in outside weather or indoors without sun.
  6. I also did a conversion not too long ago. Although my tyres were compatible while going for the conversion at the LMS I decided to do things proper and get new tyres. Now I have two spares in somewhat decent condition to last me till I have enough money to buy new ones. After the conversion changing tires is simpler than doing a conversion. Off cause you can do it yourself too but if you are a noob like me you must also think that if you did it wrong you might end up with a messy stuff up in your next race. This is something you need to only do once in your life. I will never be sold a wheel with a tube fitted. For some reason the LBS's sell that stuff to rake in later specially on the more entry level setups.
  7. Maybe thehub or other concerned party like insurance companies can start a database of stolen bicycle serial numbers accompanied by a police docket number. It could be handy to help us first trace the Serial number. Unfortunately this does not help for components and the database might also be abused.
  8. I started with a 29" and would like to do the comparison with a 650b/27.5"
  9. Lets make this short. 1 Broken chain (again) and fixed it lost 30 mins as I let one part of the chain link fall in the grass. Thanks to the lady who spared me one you saved me. Two superman falls and about 3 tumbles later, the quads on both legs were knocked blue. At 18 km to go mu RD started throwing my chain between the spokes and the big ring. After twice spending 10 mins trying to get it out I realised that the actual problem was a broken hanger. How my RD did not fall off I do not know. So the nicer parts off the course I walked every technical and slightest incline. I wish I had a dropper post and soft tail. This would have simplified my life. Why I did not take a minute or two to adjust my seat post lower on the downhill is beyond me. Anyway before I bankrupt myself unfortunately I am done racing for a bit. On Friday my daugter will be born and my money will go into baby needs rather than bike parts. For the next few months I'll pack a camera and stop and enjoy the trails I ride and avoid down hills that is out to kill me. But I'll be back probably sooner than later as the addiction has me.
  10. Learnt my lesson so bought a chain link and breaker. I hope I have space for everything.
  11. Looks like silicone oven mittens.
  12. Recommended Tyre pressure for this race? For hard and softer walled tires?
  13. Thank you, got it. F at least I have something to motivate me, to GET BETTER SEEDING. This means I definitely wont see anyone still hanging out around at the finish. By the time I'll get in you all will be long gone. Probably because I only have one race under the belt and did not finish well ither.
  14. My morning ride in Pretoria. Started 04:40 and the temps were: Min:0 Max: 11 Av: 1.4
  15. Ha ha. Will hit the streets 05:40 tomorrow morning. I guess a sub zero is not off the cards. Anyone up for a slow ride on coming monday afternoon. It is public holiday after all.
  16. I'm going to experiment. I used GU and Bars a few times on longer rides and after a while got stomach cramps. I also feel a bit unstable at times. A guy I do long distance riding with advised me so go 0 on sugar and maybe go lower carb on rides. My mother did her 10th Comrades this year and for the first time no sugar and said it was her best ever. I'll maybe try bananas, nuts, raisens and droewors and a lower carb mix in one bottle and then work my way up or down from there in subsequent sessions. Thanks this helped.
  17. Not quite that simple. The stores also need to import their goods at the high import duties and need to set up a distribution hub and cover other logistical costs. Logistics is the key. Free shipping is a dream as somehow it needs to be factored in. Simplifying it is the key. If you could order as much as you wanted at the same basic shipping cost then it makes it easy to antisipate. I have thought of it. Online specific distribution which could combine the logistic needs of small online shops in one network could become a win win for all involved.
  18. I am trying to avoid the Gel / Gu / carb stuff. Is there an alternative?
  19. What is a good previous day race meal and what is good race snacks. I am off the GU and relatetd sugary stuff as my stomach cramps in the final stages of a long ride. Should I even eat during a ride?
  20. Noob question. If I start in a later batch my race time is from the start of the first batch or the start of the batch I started in. In other words can the person second over the line beet the guy coming in first because the batch he started in was the second or third batch.
  21. I received no mail. Should I be worried? Alex
  22. So true once you get stopped by someone on an accent it sometimes just is not possible to get going again or so much effort that you are burnt out before getting to the top. Also if the terrain is bad it is not that easy to go around people as generally when I ride up it is not at pace. The slightest delay in cadence gets you off the saddle.
  23. He is advertising the race!
  24. Bike ready from the crutch list. Will be giving this my all this weekend.
  25. Ok got new RD so I am back in the game. Minus my planned training sessions. I broke a chain and RD in 3 off road sessions. Am I doing something wrong or is it just dumb luck.
