  2. The Strava segment of a crossing less than a Km from home, it took me more than an hour to complete about 600m, I had come off my bike just before this crossing. I only realized this after checking my route on Strava the next day. A friend found me close to my house, he phoned my son who came to fetch me and take me to the Dr. I thought they were crazy and I was ok. I was diagnosed with a severe concussion. That Hour is forever lost.
  3. Not confused mate. Read up, 820 does everything the 1000 does, Has 16G memory but no extra memory slot and has the Insident detection which the 1000 doesn't have. Same size as 520. Has Topo Southern Africa pre loaded which includes cycling routes. Anything else you need to know?
  4. I have the 820, for me it's a must, won the full range Garmin Varia, Lights, Radar and Varia Vision Heads up display (Incredible item) The 820 integrates perfectly with all of them. The unit hasn't given me a moments issues. The only "issue" I had was a night ride doing single track I lost my chain on a steep decline, with the hard braking and sudden stop the 820 unit's "Insident detection" picked up incorrectly that I had crashed and sent out emergency notification to my emergency contacts. By the time I had a chance to deactivate it on my phone everyone was in contact with each other planning my rescue, co-ordinates were also sent. This will be a great function for road cycling in case of an accident were one is unable to notify anyone. I hope I never need to have that function activated again. But on the whole the 820 is the best unit I have tested.
  5. After reading the post by "maxanon", I spent the whole morning reading all the posts relating to this issue. Seriously guys I have some real sympathy with his issues, guaranteed if I was a new guy in your area I'd probably be just as confused. With so many regulations and Marshal's enforcing the "rules and regulations". Here are some tips if you ever ride in my valley. I'm from Rustenburg now officially the "Most crime ridden city in Africa" Cape Town comes in at a lowly Seventh place. If you ride in our beautiful and challenging Kgatswane reserve always carry pepper spray..a cyclist was recently attacked by 3 baboons. If you have a GoPro keep it going at all times, close encounters with Eland, Kudu and waterbuck can happen at any time, I've witnessed a couple of near misses and been involved with an Eland at close quarters, he just had to cross at that point. Broken bones and tough trails are the least of your worries. Recently on a road bike cycle 120 km a Warthog fell down a 5 m cliff directly in the path in front of two cyclist doing 45 km/h, they had no time to react luckily the warthog did. I was just behind and no GoPro, rocks and debris that came after him almost took me out. Last year (Stage MB event) we came upon a Giraffe and an Eland Bull fighting to the death, The Eland impaled the Giraffe's abdomen and he had to be put down. We watched his carcass being fed to Lions the next day, his heart went to the crocodiles. Our night rides are just as interesting. We start from within a Predators Park meters away from the big cats. We ride so close to them that one can clearly smell them in the darkness, my own rule of preservation is that I make sure I am in the middle of a bunch........ just in case. Oh yes and don't forget, check under your vehicle before you climb in, Puff-adders are a common occurrence. If you a visitor come join the club rides arranged for Roadies and dirt trackers, no one will ask if you a member and you won't be left behind. Do carry your pepper spray and stay in a group on the open roads, after all we are the most crime ridden city in Africa, taxis don't respect our rights on the road and "hit and runs" and Bike Jacking are known to have occurred. So there you have it, our full list of do's and Don't's.
  6. Normal 42mm I-Watch sport with aluminosilicate glass quoted at R6799, Stainless steel shell with Sapphire glass starting at R10,000 and advertised up to R18,000 check www.shopandship.co.za
  7. Not necessary, I purchased a tempered glass screen protector 42mm and Survivor tactical case for I-Watch from www.shopandship.co.za. Have used my watch for 8 months now, bought it in Hong Kong. (Strava and Polar beat) tempered glass has some scuff marks but I will replace when necessary.
  8. I bought the same camera and for exactly the same reasons mentioned. more than happy with it's performance. real value for money. If you have decided on a video editing package give us your thoughts as I am also looking.
  9. TACX Bushido Smart, with the PC Upgrade. I have just installed the TACX i-Ironman for a friend. Fantastic products, Virtual Reality films are really great. I have Tony Martins training video where you follow in his slipstream over 64KM of his favorite training route. Really great workout. I have just loaded the Google earth dongle so I can virtually ride any route on earth. With the onboard power meter, and HR monitor as well as the steering "Blacktrack" the rides are pretty awesome. 5 settings for VR rides, Very easy, easy, normal, hard, very hard. I ride on normal against 9 other VR opponents and still place last by a margin, so I really look to improve on every ride and it is getting better. Multiplayer also available.
  10. Get the Wahoo RFLTK+ about R1700 from shopandship.co.za it has a build in altimeter, it is small, fits like a normal bike computer. It is made for iPhone, you can download the Wahoo bike apps for free. Unit works with BT, pair to your iPhone which you can then switch off and have over 6 hours of battery. Wahoo have a great Heartmonitor about R800 which also links via BT on iPhone to the RFLTK as well as a cadence and speed meter about R800 which fits on the bike and shows data via same channel. It has an app which registers all the Km's done with specific bikes. The app is great but the unit also works with Cyclemeter and Strava. you can receive spoken messages and can be followed on FB. If you on Vitality download Polar Beat, it links to Wahoo heartrate monitor and you can upload immediately from the phone for full vitality points. I've tried them all this is the best all rounder and extreemly reliable. unbelievable amount of data is downloaded on the iPhone.
  11. SPECIALIZED FLUX EXPERT TAILLIGHT, NON MORE POWERFUL. USB CHARGED LASTS ABOUT 9 HOURS. RATED 110 LUMEN. ON PULSE MODE I AM VISIBLE ALMOST 1 KM AWAY IN DAYLIGHT. FELLOW CYCLISTS DON'T ENJOY RIDING BEHIND ME BECAUSE OF THE BRIGHTNESS. BIT EXPENSIVE, PICKED IT UP FOR R900. AUTO ADJUST FOR DANGER PERIODS SUCH AS SUNRISE AND SUNSET. VERY HAPPY WITH QUALITY
  12. I bought the camber 29 two years ago. That was after I went over the handlebar of a "Hybrid" doing 45km/h on a short sharp decent and the handlebar broke off the stem. That incident left me with two broken arms and a brake lever pegged in my leg. I was looking for a strong bike that wouldn't cost too much. Camber 29 it was, it's a great bike, I have just done the upgrades (after two very satisfied years) XT groupset, Fox air shock, Mavic crossmax ST rims. I kept the frame because it is so strong it really instills confidence. And lastly the bike not only rides well, it looks damn good as well.
  13. I use Ultrablock 30+, it's good for 6 hours. It was recommended by a friend who is a fast bowler in cricket. He applies it doesn't have to wipe his palms dry, picks up a cricket ball and bowls, no residue. The word been used now is "Colipa" compliant, this product is. Sweat can shorten the duration so the water resistant cream is excellent for midday rides.

    Runtastic

Reasonably accurate, I use it when riding in our nature reserve, again it depends on the device used. I use an iPhone, the ride starts with a substantial 3 km climb with many steep climbs and descents in between start and finish. I end at the same spot and always have a variance of about 15 to 20m, thats after climbing about 600m, I think thats pretty good.
