  1. Tania at CycleLab Hillcrest got me one about 2 months back, cost me R18-00.
  2. Just had a look at the kit and it looks really nice. Please let us know what the duty & vat brings it to and the quality of the kit. Thanks
  3. Try Grant at Adrenaline Cycles in Howick he will be able to help you with all your problems. 033-330 7788
  4. A 9 spd chain should work with 8 spd cranks. My son's first road bike was an 8spd and had the same problem with the chain not dropping onto the small blade but skating over it. Problem solved after much fiddling and stress (LBS mech's idea )by fitting a 9spd chain
  5. I use a Park Tool chain cleaner with Clean Green or similar degreaser and a stiff long bristhled brush (dishwasher brush from Spar) to clean chain and gears. When i strip a bike for service then i follow your method. I just drop the chain into a small coke bottle and add parafine, shake, soak and rinse with degreaser. Cut bottle open to remove chain. I only use Squirt on my chains. We get high milage out of our drive trains
  6. It appears that we even organize better road races here in KZN as i experienced first hand this past weekend in Gauteng.
  7. if you guys want to experience organized MTB races come to KZN and try some of the best organized events around.
  8. Before you cut the bars move your controls in wards and go for a ride. This will give you a feel for the new position. I do this and have moved the controls several times until I'm comfortable and only then cut. I prefer a pipe cutter for all metal bars and a very fine tooth hacksaw for carbon.
  9. If you need to put a tube in to your tyre make sure you check very carefully for thorns etc from old punctures you didn't know about. I saw a top pro rider make that mistake at Hill2Hill a few years ago, with 2 tubes. I t ruined his day and a chance of a podium.
  10. On weight and price Rival seem to be better. My son also prefers to feel of the Sram to Shimano.
  11. Have a look at Intense Tyres - System 2. Both my kids will be racing on them this year. Lighter than the Karmas, roll fast and really grippy. My son is the most fussy person about which tyres he uses and he thinks that they are great.
  12. Oops ! - That could really cause confusion.
  13. If you are Cameron's dad I live across the road from you (137) Siobhan and Kyle's dad.
  14. Hi Craig If you want to check your chains pop across the road and use my chain tool. Andrew
  15. The Sram cassettes work fine with Shimano components and seem to last a lot longer than Shimano cassettes. Also cheaper at my LBS.
  16. Try the Fit products. There recovery mixed with milk (not water) tastes good and works well.
  17. Please can someone explain this to me... Everyone moans that there are not enough ladies in cycling, but when it comes to a BIG race only the top 10 Elite Ladies are acknowledged at the prize giving, yet in the mens race it is the top 10 Elite and then the top 3 in each age group. In the U16 boys the prize money was in the 4 figure range, yet in the U16 girls there was nothing. Where is the motivation for the ladies to excel, why not call up the top 3 in each age group so that they can have their 30 secs of glory and their sponsors can get some mileage from them. NO acknowledgement = NO sponsorship for the ladies, why should the sponsors want ladies on their teams when they get no mileage from them, as all sponsors want their riders acknowledged. Well that is my 2c worth on this issue and yes I have a daughter who rode in the U16 girls and came 3rd and is very upset that her and her sponsor didn't get acknowledged.

  19. Stupid Question... but have you tried attaching a saddle to seat post and then removing the seat post as this gives you something to hang on to while pulling.
