  1. Hi Everyone, Im not one to post often, but I'm reaching out because my sister needs our community's support now more than ever. She's facing a tough battle after being hit by a car, and any help, whether it's sharing her GoFundMe/BackaBuddy or contributing, could make a world of difference in getting her back on her feet. On January 14th, 2024, the life of my sister, Jessie Munton (17) took an unexpected turn. While preparing for the South African Road National Champs, European season, and dreaming of Olympic participation, she was tragically struck by a car while cycling. Despite clear skies the driver, intoxicated, failed to see her on the road's edge. Jessie has been fighting for her life in ICU for nearly a month with severe brain damage. Initially placed in an induced coma to manage the critical condition she was in, she now rests in her own coma, with our prayers fervently awaiting the day her eyes open again. With Jessie's youth, fitness, and indomitable spirit, we hold onto hope that she will emerge from this ordeal and reclaim a semblance of the life she once had. However, the road to recovery is long and arduous, exacerbated by the high costs of specialised care. Up until now Jessie has been receiving treatment at a private hospital near the accident site, where she has received exceptional care. However, the financial burden is becoming overwhelming as her medical coverage dwindles rapidly. The next phase of her journey involves at least six months of intensive neurological rehabilitation in a specialised facility, the costs of which are substantial. To navigate this crucial period in Jessie's recovery, we estimate needing close to ZAR 2 million, roughly Euro 100,000. This will cover everything from her rehabilitation care, scans , doctor visits, to essential medical equipment and more. Jessie's absence has already left an irreplaceable void in our lives. Her achievements representing our country at the Youth Commonwealth Games, multiple national championship titles to her name and her infectious optimism have touched countless hearts. We believe she deserves every chance to continue spreading joy and inspiration. We humbly ask for your support in funding Jessie's recovery journey. Your contribution will not only alleviate the financial strain on our family but will also be an investment in Jessie's future—a future where she continues to defy the odds and make the world a brighter place for us all. Thank you for considering Jessie's cause and for any support you can provide. Together, we can help her overcome this challenge and write the next chapter of her extraordinary journey. 2. Just before entering the final lap i literally had to drop from the lead group, thanks to cramps. Managed to eventually ride through them and make my way back to the leaders. 1/4 way up the climb Kent put in a massive attack, i just didn't have it to go with. Rolled to the line with Jacques. To my teammate @Sid the Sloththat was some ride yesterday. One you can be very proud of!
  3. Not ideal an ideal situation, but will make of it. Sometimes taken a step back is not a bad thing. I have learnt quite a bit in this past year in regards to how the Continental teams are run , 7 of the 12 that got released where based on where the team is registered. Have a look at the line up for 2022!
  4. Ventilation could have been improved. It was made worse that we had to where our Zwift jerseys for obvious reasons. Photo below was basically the setup we had. I over heard that some of the girls core body temps where reaching over 40 degrees!
  5. Thanks, got some things in the pipeline. Maybe not what i wanted but will still be racing in Europe!
  6. This was actually one of the things that felt quite strange. The only interaction we had with them was a small briefing before each ride. After they where nowhere to be seen. Learnt a huge amount , not all bike related thought. More about the pressures and marketing side to Sport.
  7. Can definitely take acting off my list of possible job opportunities 😅 Unfortunately for now i am without a contract. The team i had committed to informed me on the 24th of December i would be without a ride! Firm believer of everything happening for a reason, have some backup plans inplace but putting in a big effort to try come right somewhere.
  8. Thanks for the Support everyone! 1. This was something i think all the finalists where hit with quite hard. From the moment we walked in to the moment we finished. A huge proportion of the time was spent getting ready for the different "scenes". Also being able to talk on the spot and try sell yourself as best of possible really took out of us. Luckily we where all in the same boat! 2. There are many things i can think of, main points that come to mind: Limited races/shorter season/ in Europe most guys where busy finishing there season or already on off season. The grassroots development systems they have in place are ticking the right boxes. Limited opportunities make for riders with more motivation to take on challenges such as Zwift Academy 3. First enjoy riding and Race your bike as much as possible. If possible find a club in Europe that will let you spend a few months racing there. From there its all up to you and how much you want it!
  9. Some days a good day is just not good Enough. Needed one of those days that when you get on the bike and know you going to fly! I did try make it work where i could, steeper at the bottom where i gave it everything. With regards to me being able to win that Challenge, it was alway going to be a tough call. Arriving fresh to a 25/30min climb is totally different to getting there with a few hours racing(stress, decents, positioning, efficiency) behind you!
  10. Hey Guys, Just a came across this forum. Wont share to much now as i would rather answer any questions you have! It was however an awesome experience, just to be there for me was quite an achievement not so much performance wise but more on a personal side. After a pretty dismal season in Europe i took a bit of a break after which i used the Zwift Academy as something to work towards/motivation. The thing we had on our arms was a blood glucose motoring device(paired with supersapiens), gave some really cool insights into how we use, burn energy and are effected by diffrent foods. With regards to what we came home with. We all received a Garmin Edge 1030plus bundle , an additional blood glucose biosensors(life span of about 14 days) and as well all the Alpecin kit( Who knows maybe some of the kit appears on the classifieds!) Again any questions you have , feel free to ask!

  12. Stolen: Basso Diamante sv 2017 When: 24 September 2018 Where: Stellenbosch, Theft took place at the TUV Noord Heritage cycle tour prize giving. Bike was placed within 2 meters my father, i and pretty much everyone else i know. I still constantly checked the bike as i am paranoid about it. Brought it with me so i was not left in the car in a parking area. when everyone stood up and left it was gone. There was a suspicious charter walking around in a cycle Jersey with casual short and tekkies on. he was seen by numerous people but not recognised as a cyclist that took part in the event. Get further details about the incident in the Stolen Bikes section
  13. HI HUBBERS I have been the given the opportunity to represent Team South Africa at the 2018 Tour De Taiwan . Its a uci(2.1) 5 day stage race. Teams such as United Health care, Nippo-vinni fantini, Willier triestina .............. are going to be present. So its no small tour and would be a huge privilege to be able to take part. more info on the event can be found here: http://www.tourdetaiwan.org.tw/index.aspx Unfortunately our cycling union is not in a position to assist us in covering Flight, Travel insurance and support staff expenses. Riders must self fund their trip! As a self funded rider this is a not a easy task. This is not something i like doing but i am reaching out to fellow hubbers. If you are able to assist in anyway in helping me get to Taiwan it would be hugely appreciated . For more information and to help get me to Taiwan follow the link below http://www.proquest.co.za/profiles/campaign_info/154 Thanks in advance Byron Munton
