  1. I actually did buy that back back in 2014. I wasn't ready for cycling back then, and sold the bike again within a few months. Fast forward to today, and I'm in a different place. I've moved to a beautiful part of the country, and I started cycling a short while ago on my brother-in-law's bike. I absolutely love it, and have landed in the situation where I need to buy my own. So yeah - totally legit. I wasn't ready then, but I am now. Hahaha. Anyway, I just wanted to say thanks for all the advice everyone. You guys have given me SO much to think about, and I'll definitely update this post once I've got a bike. At this point, I'm either going with the Titan Rogue Dash if I buy new, or I'm going to try to score a deal on a second hand bike. Thanks again guys, I really appreciate it!
  2. Hey guys! I need to buy my first MTB. Budget is 16/17k if I can finance through a place like cycle lab. What SEEMS to be a good bike at that price point is the 2022 Silverback Stride Expert, but I'd love some thoughts about this from you guys. My needs - definitely a MTB, but no crazy DH stuff. This bike will be for trails and things though, so the front fork needs to not be a POS apparently. Would the silverback be a good start? Should I consider something from Titan Racing Maybe?
  3. So guys. I got that bike, and it's awesome. Rode around for 8 minute yesterday, and about 5 this morning, and my butt HURTS. Is this something I'll just have to get used to?
  4. Hahah! Seriously? Deal. I'll take that photo for you guys. Thanks again for all the help!
  5. Awesome. You guys are great. If I can be a pain in the butt enough of a n00b, would any of you mind linking me to examples of the stuff listed above that I should buy - like the pump and spares and stuff? I'm meeting up with the guy selling the momsen this evening. Stoked!
  6. Oh cool. Okay great, thanks guys, I think I'll pick that one up. I appreciate all the replies! Then - next thing - what other stuff do I need?
  7. Aha, I see. Is that not a risky thing? Still safe to go ahead and buy this bike?
  8. Cool. How can I not find anything on the web about these momsen bikes? It's as if they don't exist :/
  9. Hahaha! Well yeah, like I said, that's the plan. Then again, that's what I said when I bought my first camera - "Just to shoot some boring crap here and there". Now I'm a photographer by profession. Lol. It's also what I said when I got my firs tattoo - "Just want this one on my arm". Now my other arm is sleeved up. Haha. So yeah, we'll see how that goes. So guys - that momsen? This one: - https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/108051-brand-new-momsen-al-029-2015-race-tech/
  10. This is going to be for taking out of my garage and cycling in the area I stay in. No crazy jumping, no crazy downhills, etc. I know there's lots of great deals in the classifieds, but I don't know what any of them are. Haha. That Momsen that Shebeen just posted looks great. Worth it?
  11. Well that's the thing - I'm not sure I want to spend more. So while I understand the whole "if the bug bites, you're screwed" point, it's not one I'm worried about. If, by some miracle, the bug DOES bite, I have a great job, and I can afford to buy another bike if I'm SUPER passionate about it later, but for now, spending 10k+ on a bike feels crazy to me. Haha.
  12. Hey guys. Geez, thanks for the quick replies! Wayne: 1) I'm a small guy, and the dude at the store said I'd need a Medium. 2) I don't really know the pros and cons of both. In my mind, "dual susser" seems a better choice, but you guys need to educate me on that. Haha. I literally know NOTHING about this stuff. 3) I'm looking at spending 9K on the whole lot. The dude at the store told me I can get away with about 2k on all the other stuff. Maxxis: Hey man! Long time! Cool, I'm happy to go either way.
  13. Hey guys. So here's the deal: I'm keen on buying my first mountain bike - it'll really be more for recreation and exercise than anything else. I don't see myself doing this as a sport. Now, I know that in every industry, there's crap that you can buy for super cheap, and I don't want to make that mistake. I just walked into a local cycling shop in PTA, and the guy showed me a few bikes in the R5500 region, and then I said "well I just don't want to buy absolute crap", so then he showed me the GT Karakoram Sport, the 2015 model. It was about R6500, and he said that that would be a good place to start. Seemed like a legit guy, but all sales people do. Is tat a good place to go? My budget is about 7K. I'd be willing to pick up something second hand too. Heck, if I can get an even better bike second hand, I'd totally go that route. Thanks in advance
