  1. Never tried them as overripe. The only ones I have had are ones that I can see wont be fresh in a day or two. When I wrap them up they arent brown or anything. The brown bananas do simply make the best banana bread though.
  2. mmmm.... banana bread
  3. Remembered about this the other day. Just ate a frozen treat..... Yum
  4. You skipped Tiekie today So lets do the hill
  5. But even with my winter statement. The car will never beat a ride home even on hot summer days. When you are moving on the bike your temperature is fine because you sweat. A long stop at the robots or up a steep hill makes you drip a bit but just think about the good you are doing for yourself. Even in winter, put a few extra layers on and you are set. I havent had a car for the past few weeks, was letting a friend use it and I have had to cycle in this rough cape town weather we have been having. The first week was tough. But then you man up and learn to deal with it. You shower and change at work anyway so what does it really matter if you are wet anyway? If you sit in any traffic in the car chances are is that your commute is quicker / or not much longer than sitting frustrated yelling at the taxis cutting you off. Just one day back in the car opens up a can of road rage inside of me and I feel so miff from getting upset for no good reason. So get on that bike and forget about the car.....
  6. Its winter?
  7. So true. Even a 2 week break will set you back into dead legs first day.
  8. Although I would much rather prefer real steel spikes.
  9. Pity they couldnt just add more people into the race. I know the last few groups will start in the heat but at least they get to ride. Logistics gets more difficult with more people but a steep 470 bucks pays for that logistics anyway..... If they changed the date earlier in the year as well (Lets say Jan or December even) you will get a extra hour of sunlight in the morning so the front guys could kick off really early. But I have to agree with them though. This is the most fair method ultimately.
  10. I also heard it is going to use the stadium...
  11. Why so narrow? It has been proven that wider tyres dont really have more rolling resistance. You also have more comfort and you will be able to run lower pressures compared to the more narrow ones. 23c gp4000's are probably your best bet all around...

    Argus 2014

I saw you having that pic taken with that big argus thing! That was right before I stopped to have a pee. I had given up on riding in L group with the monster crashes we were having. I have done the whole stop everywhere thing before and I must say that it is really awesome to do it.
  13. maybe thats how he rolls...
  14. Yes The GPS data for chappies is a bit wonky. At some point strava thinks that you have climbed up to the top of the mountain and back down giving you huge elevation gains. The barometers on the top end devices are still more accurate.
  15. Im sure you could make your own.
  16. Not a bad idea.
  17. Thanks. Now I am feeling hungry..... talk of burgers.

    Argus 2014

Just remembered something. The MiCiti buses were free to cyclists on the day. Not a bad option if you coming from the milnerton/table view area....
  19. I was probably in your group then. I was also at the back of the massive start group and just couldnt get to the leading pack on the climb because we started too far back. I bucketed down hels and caught a group of about 8 H riders but then dropped off again as they hit the rollers. It took me forever to warm up. No cycling the last week because I was sick made me feel very slow for the first hour.
  20. I really respect the people that started later on in the race. Whatever I suffered yesterday it must have been 10X worse a hour or three later. The backmarkers dont have groups to cycle in. They started in the heat already and they are going to have to utilize all the water stops not just the last ones. So my hat goes off to them for sticking it out ..... seriously, if I was offered a lift at 90km I would have taken it. I am really glad that I did the race. Im sure my body is a bit more used to the heat now. Who knows? The argus could be 40deg and we could be dropping like flies again. At least now I miiiiigggght be 1% more tolerant to the heat.
  21. I hit my fastest speed this morning down hels. Was getting back to the group... Hit 84.6 Any other high speeds down there today?
  22. Lol. I am a very different animal. Maybe baboon.... Lol No seriously I can go through a large period of time before I need anything to drink. I had breakfast this morning and the little bottle I was carrying was a concentrate of 32 gi which I started sipping a bit earlier. So ample energy supplies. I am very weird. If I drink anything in the morning of a race I need to pee the whole morning. Even without drinking my bladder manages to fill itself somehow. So drinking early doesn't do well with me.
  23. Thats what I rode with as everyone did that ran out. I even had a small bottle in my pocket. To top it off I purposely started drinking late to conserve my water. I rode for almost two hours before I started sipping. But even if I had extra water with me I would have still needed to stop. I had to pour water over myself. It was my only way to cool down.
