  8. Entries were closed on Friday and the seeding has been completed but there was a flurry of requests to reopen the entry portal till Friday the 25th August. THIS HAS BEEN DONE. The route has been inspected and all looks good (from a car driver's perspective). the flowers are out , albeit a bit a bit small , the Verloerensvlei is the fullest it has been for a very long time. Long term weather forecast is for a sunny day with a light breeze for the entire area.
  9. WP cycling had a crits series for the last number of years - they have tried to formalise it into a series like a WP champs over 4 events instead of just standalone crit inbetween road races. attendences are poor. the road league consists of lap races , ie short laps of 7.7kms or long laps of 50kms. these events have been hosted for the last 12 years , there has been growth BUT......... circuits are being killed as there are just so many routes out there. Gunners Circle was mentioned a few times - there are now speed bumps on the circuit and there is a shop down one of the roads which is very popular on a Sunday morning this has impacted on traffic numbers on the Fire Station side of the course , other than that, it is still quiet for the rest bar a truck or 2 turning into or out of the market.
  10. no feeding from the convoy - i am not riding this year so i will impress upon the officials that this must be strictly enforced. we are in the process of identifying 2 feed zones on the route which will be different from the dedicated waterpoints for those that need to stop and refuel whether it is from the water point or their own roadd side back up. provisional feed zone at the moment will be at the t junction of the Eland Bay / Eendekuil Rd and the climb out of Elands Bay. i need to inspect before i confirm with officials
  11. 1.last year - we went according to Racetec results , we were thrown out by there being a dearth of up to date results / events due to Covid - i am also familiar with a lot of the names from WP Road League so if there were riders who competed in the league we went along with those as well. Another curve ball are those entrants that only have Mtb results , their average speed is difficult to assimilate to a RR. 2. it's entirely up to you 3.We were let down las year wrt water points - there will be three WPoints for those who do not have back up. there will also be a separate 'feeding zone' for those who want to take on refreshments without stopping. 4.to date , we are ahead of where we were last year.
  12. i understand and agree - we did consult with the officials regarding feeding for this event. it is unfair to allow teams to feed from team cars as individual riders don't have that luxury. so we insist no feeding from team cars. We don't have the manpower to have a separate 'side of the road' feeding zone where riders are fed by 'back up' as well as a dedicated waterpoint where participants can stop and refuel. to have both in the same location will be chaos hence we and the officials agree that all participants have to stop to refuel at the 'official waterpoints'. our resources are spread thin on the day as are the officials. but i will take up this issue with them. thanks for the heads up.
  13. there was lots discussion why the last water point was not erected. for this years event , it has been confirmed that the Saamstaan waterpoint (188kms) will be erected and manned , water , energade , mini bars ones will be available. the same will be available at Redelinghuys (130km)
  14. Please note that City Cycling Club is not the organizer of the event. I (as the WP Road Commissioner) was asked to load the event on the events page. i am not allowed to create another profile to promote events for WP Cycling. All my answers regarding this event is on behalf of the WP Road Commission. We are being assisted by West Coast Cycling and Berg River Tourism.
  15. Event Name: Velddrif 222 VelddrifWhen: 27/08/2023Where: Velddrif, Western CapeCategory: RoadNot just another cycling event We can't compare the V222V to the European 1 Day classics yet nor is it a seeding event for any funride but it is Two hundred & Twenty Two kilometres of hardcore uninterrupted tar. This is one event that every cyclist will want to have on their palmares. The circular route from Velddrif passes through Piketberg before swinging north-west past Redelinguys and Elands Bay and then south for last 70 flat and fast kilometres back to Velddrif It’s a challenging 222km The racing will be a paced handicap with the slower batches starting first and faster participants starting with a time gap handicap based on each starting group's estimated average speed over 222.. AND to spice things up, we are incorporating a club/team competition to the race. Clubs and Teams can start together but they will start in the batch of the fastest seeded rider(s), so it’s important to have team members who are of similar strengths. Teams may consist of up to 8 members with the accumulated time of the first 6 riders across the line to determine the team's position overall. Ensure you have indicated your club/team during the registration process. The event will have 3 competitions. Fastest Team, Line honours to the first person across the finish line and of course race honours to the rider with the fastest elapsed time overall! So plenty to race for. Who will bite the bokkom first. MTB's and Gravel bikes welcome Go to Event Page.

  17. The weather forecast was for rain in the early morning for the Club 100 annual road race around Simons Town and Red Hill. It was still raining at the Race Commissaires and Team Managers meeting 30 minutes prior to the start of racing and the message was ‘ride with caution’. With all the marshals and traffic control in place, the riders rolled across the start line promptly at 7.45am and it wasn’t long before the race was strung out on the false flat leading up to Cape Point gate. Riders started popping off the back on small climbs at Millers Point and Froggy Pond. The pace then settled down through Simonstown and the peloton started Red Hill with just Reece McDonald (RDX) ahead of them. The climbers put down the hammer on the switchbacks and Matt Beers (Toyota Specialised) flew past the view point on his own to take the KOM prize for Category 1. None of the teams could gather sufficient troops to organise a chase on the 2nd and 3rd laps and Beers built his lead up to 6 minutes over the next 60 kms. The Toyota Specialised rider crossed the finish line at the summit of Red Hill in a time of 2hrs6min over the 88kms followed by Jaco Venter (Team Mad Macs) and Daniel Loubser (Freewheel Cycology). Category 2, 3 and Women raced 2 loops of the Red Hill circuit. u19 Junior cyclist Jessie Munton had to call on her track speed to successfully contest sprint for Women’s KOM and first place. Tessa Keers and Layla Schwellnus fought all the way around the course to make the race very competitive for all the participants. The Category 2 bunch started the 1st climb of Red Hill all together and then were strung out as the climb progressed with Reynard Traut (Cape Town Giants) claiming the KOM prize. The race came back together for the last lap with the climbers keeping their matches dry. They lit the fuse when 3 riders went away to contest the sprint with Theodore van Wyk (independent) claiming first, from Josh Lindenburg (Mother Amateur Club) in 2nd and Jaco Roets (Somerset CC) in 3rd. Guy le Ray-Cooke (independent) claimed first place in a tightly contested sprint to the line with KOM Nicholas van Wyk (Bellville CC) in 2nd and Delano Rasmus (Bellville CC) in 3rd in the Category 3 race. for some fantastic photos go to https://www.facebook.com/WPCycling

  20. We visit a fast flowey circuit this coming weekend for the 2nd event in the WP Cycling Crit champs. The venue is very spectator friendly and a large part of the route is visible from the start finish area. With 3 events to go before the completion of this series there is still time for riders, teams and clubs to launch a serious challenge for honours in the series.
