  1. my son was 12 when we rode tandem in the argus - did a 4 hour on adreneline. in training, anything over 50 ks i could see he would be getting bored. then he started racing on the track and road on restricted gears and distance and his cycling ability went through the roof. he wasn't on a training program until he was a 2nd year u16 and that was just for the track. over the weekends, he rode with his club and had good fun and a laugh and then played a game of club soccer.
  2. from what i understand CSA & ASA have been working from day 1 of the lockdown through SASCOC to the Minister of Sport requesting relaxing the restrictions for their members nationally. so far no relaxing iow stay at home. lets see what the sports minister comes up with for the 1st May
  3. the comm can't see a single cyclist 2 to 300 metres back with a convoy of support vehicles inbetween. esp not our local comms.
  4. on a more serious note - interest earned on a money market account - where do i record it?
  5. allowing ladies to draft behind your bakkie back to the bunch is doing ladies cycling a great disservice. shame on you , thats cheating - mechnical doping
  6. totally over rated just like the argus - but we do it every year. swellendam route the easiest dc - and ive done them all including the longest at 228 kms
  7. fun rides are too expensive now. i race those routes so often with my club for nothing. goodbye ppa
  8. crash ball rugby is outdated by 10 years - and we still believe all teams including the AB's are scared of our physicality. having to tackle a 110kg centre face on is par for the course of anyhonest pro rugby player. when will we learn to side step or run for the gap.
  9. at this moment in time the AB's are by far the best team in the world. its like playing for the B team at your club - practise against the A's and you always get beaten. "world" rugby at the moment. nr 1 AB's = A League nr 2 - 10 = B League nr 11 - the rest of the 'rugby world' are walkovers
  10. WP Cycling are currently using 2 photographers to record their Road Racing League - one of them Robert Ward has left to take up work in Scotland and needs to be replaced. any photogs interested? inbox me. have a look at the WP Cycling FB page at the event albums.
  11. i do a lot a fair share of driving during work hours and witness many indiscre tions. CTown drivers imho drive like they don't know where their destination is. cyclist riding like they bulletproof , i have given up on. i save my verbals for the weekend. jump a red light while i'm waiting and i will shout at you , catch up to you and tell you , "you giving cyclists a bad name". has it helped , most likely not. but never had anyone telling me , i'll give you a PK. most look at me like i'm an alien. so what, i've vented and i feel better
  12. got all the stickers but no board to stick the sticker on or the cable ties - anyone heard of others with the same predicament?
  13. the proper 99'er started at the El Shaddai school and went down Wellington Road to the outskirts of Paarl and then back to finish up Wellington Rd. then the route changed to Malmsbury and back 120 kms - that was my 99'er until this last weekend.
  14. a few observations , why are directional arrows always placed in the middle of the emergency lane where you can't miss them. traffic cones never do their job that they were intended for. why do bike marshals think that forcefully sharparding the bunch into being 'thinner' is a safe thing to do. why do they stop in the middle of a climb in the middle of the road to force riders to the left. why dont they just ride ahead and warn oncoming traffic of the impending arrival of a bunch. we had 'Lee' screeching 'get in your lane, get in your lane' every time we saw a car. the fact that we were in 'our lane' seems to have been lost on her.
  15. i just hope that all our players (i hate the way our skipper(s) always refer to 'the guys') attend the party and give India a 3.0 hiding.
  16. that's about 1 a month till December , not exactly a full calendar. miss 1 and we'll have to start base training again.
  17. forced to more events - sportif this weekend and then ?
  18. ppa seedimg - some riders dont want to have a fake A seeding by doing hill climb TT's , so they in lower alphabet groups - should sort itself out.
  19. i loved the climb up the N7 great addition to the event.
  20. how many times must we knock on with head down bash it up rugby
  21. just buy a annual csa license instead - R150 , much cheaper than forking out R45 a ride. a fool and his money is soon parted.
  22. time for an event in opposition to the DC perhaps?
  23. i have , just like for the last 30 years - but my gripes should be for another thread
  24. so who got this letter ? I am really sorry to have to say 'goodbye' to you. This will be my last monthly CEO letter to you, as you will soon be taken off our database and will no longer receive the regular newsletters from PPA until you renew your membership for the new membership year which started on 1 July. We'll send out one more invoice later this week. At roughly R30 per month for a main member or R15 per month for an additional family member or R8 per month for a junior (u/18) member, we do hope you find value in what we do for cycling, cycling events, and cyclists in general, and will consider renewing your membership soonest. Since my last letter, two more cyclists have died on our roads and they will not be the last. We seem to live in a society where some people apparently think they can get away with murder and they do, literally. We listen to the victims who tell us about the lack of interest and lack of professionalism shown by the police or prosecuting authorities. We are doing as much as we possibly can - getting information, using our contacts to get action from the authorities, speaking to the victims and their families, offering our assistance where possible and within reason. really? What genius P.R.O dreamt this up
  25. i use to organise a road ride back from the Knysna funride. we rode various routes for about 5 years in a row.good fun
