I bought a set of Isla Bike wheels (Stans Crest) the hubs were 28H, but not smooth and heavy, so i replaced them, I have unused set of hubs with HG FreeHub, but they are super heavy and super rough, so if you dont find anything suitable them these are a good fall back, I'm in Somerset West

When reading your post I was reminded of a similar story that puzzled my brother who owns a large bike shop in Austria The owner of the bike said it took around 50km to start noticing the sound It turned out to be the welding inside the frame just heating up and rubbing and causing the creaking It was solved by using deep penetrating grease on the inside of frame weld points The problem was immediately solved. I recently bought the momsen 24 JSL orange colour bike from olympic cycles I thought it would be light but was still 13kg+ So far I've replaced shocks, upgraded to carbon bars, switched to custom wheels on stans crest rims and DT swiss hubs It's still way heavier than I want, so need to get it down to 9kg to feel nibble Crankset, BB, seat and post are next, I wish I'd bought a 2nd hand donor bike with light frame set as it would have worked out cheaper Good luck in your quest, 24 inch wheel bikes are a minefield.

Good effort guys I just returned from the UK and Isla bikes are going under so selling off a bunch of stock on eBay under various sellers I picked up a 24" 24H wheelset with stans crest rims The hubs are horrid, but 2 full wheels were cheaper than 2 rims locally so will order some super light Ali express hubs for peanuts and switch them over The weight savings after this point are getting expensive for minimal returns so will have to stop

A quick update, the crankset arrived, the bike shop tried with the existing BB but opted for the one that came with the kit as its "fitted" better, so rather pay a bit extra for BB that can come with the the set I'm extremely pleased with the result, so would recommend if you can wait the 3 weeks for delivery.

I have 150 mbit up and down on frog foot back bone using fibre wireless with static IP in Somerset If you don't have any family with you then the lourensford groups are a good place to network and join riders, you cannot ride alone there. Plenty for 3-4bar I assume you don't need a 4 bedroom Stellies is expensive but is a good investment Good to be spoilt for choice !

Interesting I will see if I can find out how much the Alex rims weigh, switching the hub and spokes will be less painful, I could just de-lace the wheel and figure it out from there, but a big task if I decide to switch the rim and have to rebuild! A hub and spokes switch might just do the trick So you have a 7.2kg 20" rigid mtb? That is impressive ! The current hubs are lead weights and feel like sand paper so will be charging these out as well so it's a new build, and since I'm starting from scratch I figured I'd do it properly 32 will work but will be heavier and you don't need 32 for 24" wheel on XC .... Enduro and jumps are a different story. If there is an option, I'd rather get lighter

Hey all My kids are racing in the Western Cape schools league, I bought a new bike for one of them, it's the lightest available but still horribly heavy, so I'm switching out the forks and trying to find light wheels I can find a 32 hole rim but for XC racing a 24 hole rim will be fine ( he doesn't jump) Any ideas where to find the rim so I can kick off a wheel build project ? I've just ordered a set of these for my 9 year old: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/1005005335472302.html I went for the 155mm crank with a 30T chain ring and BB They do lengths from 110mm upto 160mm Its only around 550grams so not bad, and cheap at approx $50 Downside is they will take a long time to arrive, I didn't fancy paying the same price again just for fast postage and although they have good reviews, I'm still cautious. It amazes me they put 175mm cranks on kids bikes, they are simply way too long.
