  1. So I am confused as to why there have been so many Rock Shox Sids for sale lately... Strange: last year and early this year there was a phase with thousands of Fox F100s flying through here, now it's the Sids' turn. On that note, how much stiffer is a Sid than a Reba... I like the whole light weight thing, but plushness means more. Is the Sid very harsh? (I love my Reba, am considering a Sid for my XC race rig...) Happy voting day. Be responsible. Vote ANC.
  2. Hmmm... the claimed causality in your post is not valid I have views that are significantly more breathtaking than that with every MTB ride I take around Stellenbosch, so attaching a certain aesthetic appreciation to road rides is not really a strong point in my mind. Then again, what do I know...?!
  3. For those who don't want to read the whole story on the website: Powerbalance admitted to false advertising, and stated that there is no evidence to support any of the claims they made about improved strength, balance and flexibility. Finally.
  4. So the company has admitted to false advertising: http://www.powerbalance.com/australia/ca Now can EVERYBODY PLEASE STOP FALLING FOR THIS CRAP! Sorry about the rant, but Powerbalance just angers me. Makes me want to kill kittens and chop down rose bushes and break expensive glass ware...
  5. Absolutely! I think many SA agents say one should not buy off CRC, because then you don't have a convenient warranty. I feel that's BullSh*t, because many of the local agents have shocking service anyway. As you say - many of us buy from international sites, and I think that's a major reason for it. If all agents behaved like this, they would get much better support from their customers
  6. If you don't feel like reading a long story, suffice it to say that the new Magura agents (based in Jo'burg) are fantastic. (No, I was not paid to make this post, I am simply blown away by what has been the best service I have received in the MTB industry.) The long version: I have had a lot of hassles with my Magura Durin Race 100 fork. Some of you may remember my previous posts, e.g. https://community.bikehub.co.za/topic/72222-stiction-on-magura-durin-race-100mm/page__p__1238368__hl__durin%2C+%7C+stiction__fromsearch__1#entry1238368 In short: the fork never used to work properly on small bumps. I had the seals replaced 3 times, full services, oil changes etc. Always after a service things would be lovely, and soon the performance would deteriorate again. Recently I got to a point where I wanted to buy a different fork. At that stage I got a PM on the Hub from the new Magura agents (Corrie is the man's name). He said that he had seen my post, and aksed if I had sorted the issues out. I said no, so he asked me to send the fork to them, which I did. Note: he found my post, and contacted me. Not the other way around! He promptly did a full service, replaced the seals, checked damper / lockout / rebound units. Best of all, since he didn't have spare bushings (or didn't have the right tools at hand, can't remember what the reason was), HE REPLACED THE ENTIRE LOWERS OF THE FORK. The fork is (was) about 6 months old, and this was all done under warranty. I only paid courier costs, and now have what is basically a brand new fork. This is exactly the type of customer service that agents of MTB products in SA should be providing. I am VERY impressed, and clearly Corrie knows his trade - he did a fantastic job. Congrats to the new Magura SA agents. Fantastic service. It would be nice if the agents of other products would adopt a similar approach to their customers. For those who don't know, the contact details of the new Magura agents are: Cutting Edge Marketing cc 082 563 3698 corrie@iconnection.co.za
  7. Hi there... Any response to my request from yesterday for an XMAS quote on a Camelbak Lobo and Fizik Gobi? Thanks
  8. Unfortunately, that is probably true
  9. Thanks for the input... You do many long rides (like longer than 4 or 5 hours)? How do you feel after such a ride? How do your balls feel? (sorry - just want to get an idea of whether the thing makes you sit on the wrong bits)... Lastly: would you say you have narrow ass-bones? Like I said in my post, apparently the Gobi only works well for people whose bones are not too far apart (sheesh - sounds like a rude post, this )
  10. So I did the Cape Pioneer on a Prologo Scratch Pro Ti saddle. That thing is very light, but also quite hard. Kind of like sitting on a plank, actually Had me going numb in various undesirable places... :'( So now I am looking to replace that saddle with something a bit softer. Do a lot of marathon distance riding (>5hrs). Many people seem to recommend the Fizik Gobi. Although I have also read that that saddle is not for people who have wide ass-bones (which I do), since it makes you sit on your perineum if you have a wide ass Would really appreciate some input on this topic. Perhaps specifically from people who do not have a 32 waist line Thanks!
  11. I need a Camelbak Lobo for the Attakwas in January... And I'm near broke after servicing my bike :( Any help from CWC-Santa? Insane specials for the other guys, by the way! Keep it up You guys rock.
  12. So how accurate are the altitude profile readouts that you get from cell-gps? Most actualy GPSs have barometer based altimeters because the gps altimeters aren't very accurate... Any input on this?? Would be interesting
  13. chickenrun4me, brighter-lights and borriz: On some level that is very comforting to hear... I guess I really underestimated how much the off-time led to fitness loss. Will keep that in mind.. rietrot: Indeed, I am the guy with th 96 and the PANDA (not teddy). I take it you did the Pioneer...? And who would you be paulvs: you may be right, but I seriously feel a lack of power that I know was there before the time. Definitely not all psychological. Bottom line: I really doubt I'm gonna be ready for Attakwas. Even if I start riding again regularly now, I simply don't know what the best type of training would be. Gonna try to do some low-intensity rides for now, couple of times a week. Atta might just be a total nightmare
  14. My Reba has poploc... Not too impressed with it. It has trouble releasing when I don't take all weight off the front wheel... Don't know whether poploc and pushloc use the same internals - that is possible. If that's the case, then my issue would not be solved by pushloc. (Apparently this problem is quite common on RockShox forks)
  15. I've had reasonably positive experiences with Stan's on small punctures, but also had a 2-3mm cut that it didn't seal. I was then left walking home 15km because I trusted the videos on their website and thought a spare tube / plug was unnecessary. Not again!
