  5. I don't really say much here but I have been around since 2009. I've seen lots of people come and go. Holy Roller/Tumbleweed has ALWAYS been here. Even when things were tough and heated. And when some left in disgust at our behaviour, he never distanced himself from us. Like family would I suppose. Like many people I have never met him, but I felt like he knew me. He spoke to me via a few posts like he has known me for years. Laughed at my joke, complimented my kids and told me I needed an upgrade. He made me feel special and welcome. I don't know how he got that right. He was like our Headboy. I'm so sad that this had to happen. Condolences to everyone who feels his loss.
  6. I am with you 100% I have a bit of a reputation with my riding buddies that I am the only person in the world that they have to wait for on a downhill. I maxed out at 72km/h. I tried not to brake but I couldn't help it
  7. Here's my story... I'm going to tell myself I went for a sub 3:01:56 because I came in at 3:01:55. Then I feel better. Last year I did 3:02:40 and I really tried to go under that invisible ceiling (well floor I suppose). I was absolutely shattered the last 2 climbs, Ave went from 32 to 30.5 Other than that I had a nice ride. I loved the racetrack, had awesome weather, didn't see one crash or a person curled up in the foetal position My wife was an absolute hero. she finished in 4:50. But she had cancer last year and all the treatment etc. Got back on the bike this year, pushed through winter but crashed at the meals on wheels race in Sep so was off for 6 weeks. had to basically start from scratch 3 weeks ago. Then last Sat after the kiddies ride she pops into the shop and kicked her toenail off agianst a trolley's wheel. So with a sore toe, Hip still a little sore from crash and minimal training she made it. I also have to commend my Dad you dropped back and said he'd chaperone her. She felt like giving up on Kyalami. Said that sweep vehicle looked very tempting.
  8. So how did the classique guys do? I really struggled. Soldiered in at 6:02. I think I lost huge chunks of time on the descents ( and the ascents). I am embarrassingly bad on the down hills. I hated that rode into Sabie, too bumpy too windy. The descent after Long Tom windy and twisty I think I maxed out at 54 kph People flying past me. Couldn't find a comfortable group to hang with, so I just rode on. My wife was watching and she said I was always alone. Til next time.
  9. The Mavics are awesome. It took me a while to post. I don't know if I should publicly admit this, but, It took me a while to figure out how to get the pic posted. Copy & Paste wasn't working for me
  10. Mine frame is for sale. It's a Large and a little too large for me Really good condition. Bought Nov. Surely there must be some taller bloke that would be keen on an upgrade. I have to move this thing else my wife will give me the evil eye. According to the bike shop RRP for the frame is 22k. I am open to reasonable offers. https://www.bikehub.co.za/classifieds/145138-giant-propel-advanced-0-frame-set/
  11. I did my first one with my dad ( I'm a guy though) but it was great. He dropped back to start with me, he punctured but we finished in 03:48. I was 25 he was 54. We did the ofm together that year as well. It was my first year of cycling. Now I race alone because he doesn't want to keep me back as I'm much quicker. He also lives in the Free State, the flat part. They have wind but none of the steep stuff I love riding with my dad. Every time I go down we try squeeze a ride in.
  12. I started in H. Firstly I pitched up in the pen at 6:10 for a 7:03 start and there were tons of people What time do they get there? Had a good ride, no real bunch that I stuck with, just bits and pieces ( H,G and I guys) until after the second bump on the N14. Then the whole thing fell apart. I felt ok and just went. All round I'm quite happy with a 2:57
