  1. Seems like I am the crazy one here....... I can eat breakfast of muesli and yogurt before a ride..... After 2:30 of not eating anything I hit the wall so hard that just pedaling becomes a hell of a mission. After 2 hours of riding I have to start taking food/gels on board otherwise I will bonk. I do take coke sometimes but I feel funky afterwards so usually take one bottle coke and one water, and usually finish the water before the coke.
  2. Sherbet, I am not even married yet or in a serious relationship and now you guys are scaring me. That being said I already irritate the living daylights out of my parents with my cycling, even though I do it early in the morning before anybody gets up. It's only on weekends where I ride a bit longer but I am usually back home by 10. And then from there we still go and put in a full day's work and the house I am renovating. I ride 8 to 12 hours per week as my work obligations don't really allow for more. I understand one has to be considerate to others but I think a lot of people just don't get why we do it.
  3. This site has backup links for the software, as well as instructions on how to back up your existing license. It does NOT contain cracks or serialz etc before anyone asks. I am currently still using TTS4 on Windows 10 without any problems with my Tacx i-magic trainer. Tacx Trainer Software 4 – Lunicus
  4. I have to say in the Rothdene/Riverdal side of the Vaal Triangle very few people came out. Me and my dad only encountered about 5 solo cyclists and 2 or 3 solo runners. But I saw the same thing, the african people going to work or town had masks on, but the european guys cycling/running nada. It was a bastard riding with a mask on but I don't want to screw things up.
  5. I am just curious as to how they will interpret me and my dad riding together because I still stay with them so we always ride together. Last thing I want is arguing with an official because he says we are not allowed to ride in a group but yet we stay in the same house....... Because my dad is ready for tomorrow as he hates the IDT whereas I don't mind it
  6. Anybody riding the Satellite Classic this year? Doing it despite being so overpriced due to the lack of road races on saturdays.
  7. This article had me nearly in tears now. I knew a bit about his history, but never how bad it really was.
  8. Hi Guys and Girls, I have some questions regarding upgrading of components on an MTB. I bought a silverback vida 4 about 2 years ago and have been riding a bit with it, but I am looking at upgrading some of its components, one of them being the front shock absorber. It has the normal factory SR Suntour air shock, but it is really not effective at its job and I have had them take a look at it but no joy. However a lot of people said to me it is not worth it to spend R6000 on a R4500 bike...... Should I maybe look at a new bike? I always assumed that you can just always transfer the better components to a new bike should I buy one later on? It currently also has the 3 x 9 speed SLX groupset on.....
  9. In my case my coach actually complained that I don't give him feedback on how my sessions went and as a result didn't know how I am coping. But what I can say is the intervals is supposed to be fairly hard, especially in the beginning. But it shouldn't be undoable. Talk to your coach but if the situation doesn't improve, I think you need to find someone better.
  10. Has anybody been able to ride the route or create a GPX file of the route?
  11. Would love to participate in this race, but don't even want to think about trying to find 11 additional crazy individuals.....
  12. What is odd to me though is that when I did home schooling (finished 2010), my parents had to register at the Dept of Education and we had a physical school name and everything even though it was just me and my sister. So my guess is if the right channels had been followed to register they can't deny entry because you are registered as a school by the Dept of Education Back then my parents had to belong to all sorts of governing bodies and with regards to sport we were told that we were allowed to participate any sport provided we met the requirements. I remember a few schools that got taken to court because home schooled kids were denied entry due to being home schooled, and in all these cases the school lost because it was deemed unfair discrimination. My whole point with this is, homeschool kids are seen as sub grade citizens. I had the biggest fight of my life to get into university after even writing government matric, simply due to the fact that I was homeschooled. I got called by the Head of Department that I had a "academic disadvantage" because I was homeschooled, yet I achieved the highest marks in the department once I finished...... Being a previously homeschooled kid I see this as sickening because we always hear the BS that we have more time on our hands. If your parents did their part as they should, we rarely finished before other kids came out of school. So from my side I say Spur must wake up.
  13. I just dunno why most of the races are on sundays . I don't race on sundays due to religious reasons, but more and more races are moving over to sundays.
  14. I am currently an intermediate level cyclist but have been interested in the triathlon scene for quite some time now. However, I absolutely suck at running, and can just keep myself from drowning in water, nevermind swimming. My coach does incorporate running as part of my cross training, but I don't want to make a total switch over to triathlon training before I tried one race at least. Would it be possible to train for a triathlon like this or would I have to put my entire cycling training program on hold for a while and train specifically for an event like the IM 5150? Also some of the triathletes really impress me when we race with them on cycle races as they can ride really hard so I am not too worried that my cycling performance will go down much if at all.
  15. I know this thread is for the national champs, but does anybody have an idea of the date of the Gauteng provincial champs? Because I see mpumalanga published their dates already....
  16. Reading all this has me a bit worried, I have never been a member of CSA, however I will be racing the Rand Water Race on sunday. I have been contemplating now if I should pay for the membership or should I just buy the day license?
  17. I will be a late entry so I guess I will be thrown to the back of the bunches
  18. Is there anybody that knows how the batches with the 54km race works? I decided last minute to go for the short ride, but have no idea of the batches etc.........
  19. And so my Tour de France comes to an end today. I managed to ride 1030km over the 21 stages, whereof 775km was ridden on the road itself. The rest I had to ride on my IDT as I had to go back to work early. My last two rides was the longest as I had to make up for 170km at the end. To be honest, going into this challenge, I did not think I would have been able to even survive week 1, but after 5 days the pain and discomfort stopped for the most part. But now I think I am going to take a week break, will start cycling again next week saturday.
  20. Well today is rest day no 2, so far I have covered 740km. My body was not happy for the first 4 days, but seemed to have gotten used to it. I just have the munchies, and quite badly . I am a bit behind schedule, but should be able to still make my 1000km goal by the end of the week. One can just start feeling the effects of so much riding, as I sleep like a rock and my legs are quite tired. That being said, so far I still manage to keep my average speed at 24km/h+.
  21. Just thought I would give an update. My first third of the tour went well, managed to cover 465km in the first 9 days. However, I did not realize this would take up so much of one's time. So today I am on stage 11, but I had to drop back to the trainer as the amount of time required to cycle is interfering with my masters studies. Now I cycle between 4:30 and 6:30 in the morning, so I can spend most of the day working on my studies. I will stick to the road over the weekends, but for the weekdays I am riding on the trainer.
  22. Don't worry, I appreciate somebody giving me the facts instead of leaving me to my own vices. That being said, I will give it a shot. But will make sure I check myself and stop rather before incurring injuries. I will try create the challenge on endomondo and publish the link on here.
  23. You guys are giving me ideas for the Parys part.....
  24. Hehe I did that last year, but can't match their difficulty.
  25. I am motivated to do this, but you making me wonder if I am not too ambitious. I will try get my weekly milage back up to what it was in april. Any Ideas as to how I can create a challenge on strava or something, so if there are any other crazies out there they can join in?
