  1. I don't understand the thinking.. In any other sport.. The National Body gets the funding and then distributes it to the provinces to use for...XYZ.. How can it now be expected from the club and province to raise the funds.. Lets say TheClub/Province does manage to scrape together the funds, CSA will then interfere and say "Hey but if you can do it for Priveledged Kid A, you must also do it for Underpriveledged kid B" But then, again I want to know what obligation the race orginizers have to CSA? Do they pay license fees to CSA? Because we do. What does my license fee to Gauteng Cycling or CSA get used for? I pay a fee assuming it will get used for the better of the sport.. ie. Sending our hopefulls (a Darryl Impey and Louis Meintjies) to the olympics.. or sending guys to the various tours. If it's not used for that, what do they (CSA) actually do then? If they don't administrate (doing the nitty gritty to get our guys and gals there) what do they actually do. Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
  2. Now I do not know enough about the behind the scenes stuff BUT I do know this. It's already hard enough to compete against the best in the world, if our talent has to now worry about funding too... well we are now taking 20 steps back. We have seen Impey succeeding at Orica and even getting a Yellow Jersey at TDF, Meintjies with top 10 finishes, DiData getting better and better. SA Cycling is finally making name on the big stage.. If anything they now need MORE investment. Not less or NONE. It's real sad. I have a question though (again I don't know about the behind the scenes stuff) but how much of the Race Fees goes towards funding our prospects internationally? If Any? With the price of races going up and up, should some of this go that way. Should it not be in the orginizers best interest to make sure SA Cycling is strong? Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
  3. Via Central Gauteng Cycling Facebook Page. South Africa and Self-Funding Policy : Due to the current economic climate and limited funding and as part of our cost cutting and financial management discipline Cycling South Africa has instituted a few very important measures. One of these is the requirement for national team riders to fund their own travel and subsistence to international events – self-funded trips. For a long period Cycling South Africa has tried to absorb as much of these costs for national teams, but we have reached the stage where this is no longer possible. This self-funded decision (along with the other cost-cutting measures) was not taken lightly. We appeal to our Provincial and Regional affiliates to please assist riders with applications for funding at the local provincial and regional levels. Available funding sources: 1.) Provincial Sports Departments 2.) Provincial Sports Confederations 3.) Regional Sports Councils 4.) Regional Sports Departments 5.) Municipal Sports Departments 6.) National Lotteries Commission Provinces, regions and clubs are urged to make application for rider assistance to these entities. With the self-funded option the same selection criteria will prevail – riders will be selected on merit and not on favourable economic circumstances. Once selected, the rider must make an effort to raise the necessary funding via the above channels through his/her club, region and province. Although self-funded, all travel arrangements are still to be co-ordinated via the Cycling South Africa office and the respective discipline Directors. Our situation is by no means unique with many other National Federations in a similar situation as was shared at the recent SASCOC General meeting I attended last month. The work continues within Cycling South Africa to attract funding into the organisation with many income generating solutions being pursued along with ongoing discussions with potential partners. The cyclists remain Cycling South Africa’s number one priority and we assure you of our continued support. 4. Yup.. Like I mentioned.. R4S gives you the option to donate to Retina.. (Which I will gladly do simply because the give the option) ( as with KFC add hope ). Don't tel me its going to charity!!! How much R5? R10?. Let me decide.. Im not too fuzzed about the Goodie bag. Im more fuzzed about the entry cost vs what I get for it. Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
  5. Ahhh.. Clever Idea... Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
  6. The problem with this is Medical Support. Our entries include emergency medical support. If you go down and have to med evac'ed they will send you the bill. ( I know of someone that had this happen to him) I have no problem paying for events as there are costs involved. But it has to be reasonable. The number collection thing I think is a ploy to get people to buy stuff in store.. Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
  7. Ja me neither.. got some Tabs in the pack.. but no Chocs in sight. Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
  8. I just did that rough calculation for you ???? Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
  9. ASG is really good at "breaking things" to put it lighty. No more Dome to Dome and did they not take over Kremetart, double the price and had to cancel the event. I get you have to make money as a business.. But they ripping us a new one.. Cycling has a lot to learn from Running Races. At this rate, Im also not doing any more of their races.. Emperors will be the last.. just too expensive. Emperors R390 / 98KM = R3.80 P/KM.. Amashova R390 / 106km = R3.67 P/KM full road closure and ALOT more logistics being point to point Fast One R290 / 97km = R2.98 /KM R4S R310/ 116km = R2.67 /KM R4S with Donation (which is my choice if I want to support a charity or not) =R350 / 116KM = R3.10/ KM Now I ask you??? 10. Im just wondering how Marathon Runners pay half what we do and get a R180 t-shirt plus goodies.. Are they not as charitable as us? Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
  11. My First VA race.. so Im also #wheelsucking.. holding on for dear life. If you see a guy with a white Trek in Black Albion kit... be nice please, you where all newbies at one stage. Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
  12. Am I missing something with the route finish... "This takes the race off the late morning busy sections in Rondebult Road and brings the event back into Emperors via Griffith Road. Out of Jet Park the event does a .right turn into Yaldwin Road, followed by a left into Taljaard and left again into Jones road to reach the finish, which is at the same spot as the start." If we go right on Yaldwyn, we never go up to Griffith? We did Griffith last year I think? Sent from my SM-G925F using Tapatalk
