  1. Hi gang, question for those here in NZ. Hope some one has been through this.

I am a resident ( not PR yet).

if i take a job with a ausie company it should have no impact on my residency right? If i stay in NZ and work remotely. And no, moving there is not a option as my wife says she is not moving again:)

i assume there would be some tax implications ( possibly).

  2. 8 hours ago, patches said:

Two fairly recent NZ government initiatives I'd be interested to hear peoples thoughts on...

    1. Over $700M spend on a pedestrian/cyclist bridge to cross the harbour
    2. EV/PHEV subsidisation with the flip-side being additional fees applied to certain fossil-fuel powered vehicles

Not sure how i feel about the 700 price tag…but me wanting to commute into town i love the idea of the bridge.
Cant they just lay down a floating bridge like juma used to do ( joke)

The EV thing  i feel is a sham. What are all SMEs going to do, all tradie vans and ute’s . The way I understand they will be taxed extra as there is no option for them. The same for farmers, companies with trucks etc.

also don't see any electric motor bikes on Labours list( would love to see some)

  3. I don't. Sad reality is that there isn't really one.

There are a few groups of FB that dominate the classifieds side of things. A mate and I trialled a very basic version of the Bike Hub, but with FB groups being the go-to it didn't gain much traction (and we were lazy). If it did hit off we may have expanded into the forum side.

So yeah, that is one thing SA definitely wins on... the Hub!

Yeah i misd the local chatter such as what race, what park, group ride, reviews all focused on local

  4. Hi NZ blockes.. im looking at bikes. New mtb, eye is on the Trance 2 29er and a disk road bike eye on the AR 3.

As you might know stock is a major issue atm in NZ.

Give me some shops you recommend? And TBH if i can i will bot use evo or torpedo as they feel like dealing with cycle lab. Have had numerous bad experiences with both. Would really prefer a local bike shop. Im in Auckland but if they courier doesnt matter where they are.

  5. I ride MTB! ....sometimes

    I live on the shore!

But yeah, I'm clueless when it comes to trail options on this end of the bridge. I ride Woodhill most of the time, with the occasional visit to Riverhead.

I rode Archhill (Grey lynn/Ponsonby) once. It wasn't fun though!

Let me know if you wana do a ride
  6. Just on the “bad”... xc riding... think long 50 to 100km routes like a extended cradle and lanseria route or a quick 60km spuit does not seem to exist in Auckland.

I am on the shore and there seems to be no option to do a quick 50 or so from my house.

In Joburg i would have a 2 to 8 km tar and then be free on a variety of trails leading various directions. Granted some where i would pass a super dodgey area.

    Seems north island is enduro.

Some suggest i do one or two of the short 6or 10 km rides in loops, but i hate loops. Whole reason i ride is to be free to gou out for a hour or two and just ride.

Not sure what next step is in terms of riding..

  7. New watch day! 6X sapphire!

It looks virtually identical to my 3 HR, it fits maybe even a tiny bit smaller on the wrist - the edges feel a bit 'smoother' if that makes sense. The screen size is the best part, lying side by side the old display size looks positively tiny. Amazing what a mm or two can do....

Many many options to have a play with

    Hi, who has stock?

  8. No, 6x Pro is like the 'base model', you then either can choose sapphire screen model, or solar 'screen' model, otherwise the inners remain the same.

    (I think)

Jip but there is no 6x pro sapphire model on pre order

  9. How is the work culture compared to SA?

I read on the NZ sites they “just get on with it”

Might be controversial here but although people say Saffers work hard... I have always found people around me in corporate to be mostly just doing what they need to. This has always enabled me to stand out a bit.

Im going with the attitude of showing my value. Work hard but still maintain life balance. Also going to learn as much as i can from the people.

Told my wife if we do this, go dont go half in. We go full in soaking it all up.

  10. Not necessarily.

There are 2 visas with the term "Skill" in them:

    • Skilled Migrant Category Residence Visa - this one counts points and requires English competency certification etc. It has a sub-section in the points calculator whereby a job offer for skilled employment gives one 50 points, and a further 10 if that employment is in an area of "absolute skills shortage" (referring to the Long Term Skills Shortage List). This is a residency visa so allows more freedom, benefits of a resident, and an overall quicker pathway to citizenship. Permanent residency can be obtained after 2yrs, and citizenship is 5yrs after the initial residency.
    • Talent - Long Term Skills Shortage Work Visa - this also requires one to be offered employment in one of the fields on the same Long Term Skills Shortage List, but is a work visa valid for 30 months. One may be eligible to apply for residency after 2 yrs (if conditions are met). Permanent Residency will take another 24 months after that. Citizenship is 5yrs after initial residency. (so approximately 2yrs longer to citizenship than the above).
    Hope that helps!

Yes thank you. My job is on the” long term skill” list

My goal is residency and ultimately citizenship, so your 1st option would be the one i will aim for.

  11. Typically citizenship requires 5yrs of residency.

Hence why some people that come over on a Talent - Accredited Employer visa switch (on their own accord) to a Skilled Migrant Visa so that they can start the 5yr countdown asap.

But then once that is granted it is 2yrs to Permanent Residency, whist the Talent - Accredited Employer visa holders can *fast track to PR after 2yrs of working for said accredited employer.

If citizenship is ones goal then the Skilled Migrant route can shave around 2yrs off the process (5yrs vs 7yrs total).

For those with British passports who are not overly concerned (even with Brexit looming), then Talent - Accredited Employer will get one PR slightly *quicker, and a few thousand dollars cheaper.

*Fast tracking from Talent - Accredited Employer to PR is subject to a few criteria, one being a minimum annual salary of $90,000.

Thank you for this, so a skilled migrant is what you get if you are on the skilled shortage list?
