  1. Wish I were in that area, TrailGirl - this sounds exactly like the way I like to ride. I am in the northern suburbs, but if you do get any responses, I'd like to join if and when I can. Also - we (husband and I) ride quite often on weekends. We did Welvanpas and Oak Valley this weekend. I can let you know when and where we're riding if you're interested in joining us.
  2. Thanks HugoD - will do.
  3. A while ago I saw a post about possible transporting of bikes from Cape Town to Sani2C. Not sure if anything got off the ground. I am looking for bike transport - any options?
  4. I'm mad about bikes, so the homework is fun! Love it.
  5. This is a big spend, so we're doing our homework first. Actually, I'm doing the homework; he's doing the final choosing and paying! He's done an ergofit ... that may rule out some frames, which I hadn't considered. Plush or racing ... whichever takes his fancy. He's not a race snake, but rides hard and does a respectable time (for an old man!). Just did 3:09 in the 94.7.
  6. Will do, Chris. CWC comes to the party again!
  7. After sales service is very important - this is why we'd like to buy through a local bike shop.
  8. Anyone used the Di2? It is available and possibly affordable... but I'm not convinced yet.
  9. My hubby is looking for a new road bike. So... how does one make the final choice? The bike will be a 'high end' bike, so all of the bikes in this range are very good bikes, and can all do the job required. All of the bikes, with a good fitting, will fit him. Any of these bikes can be fitted with any components, so components won't be the deciding factor. Without going ridiculous, he can afford any of the bikes, so price will not necessarily be the deciding factor. The bike must be available from, or through a local bike shop. In most cases, a test ride is not possible, so it makes it difficult to ride before he buys. So what makes any of these bikes stand out from the crowd? What compelling reason is there to buy any of these bikes before any other? Bikes on the list are: Cervelo Specialized Cannondale Pinarello Scott Fondriest Neil Pryde (a new addition to the list ... anyone have any experience?) Giant (his current bike is a Giant; he'd like to try something different) Focus Any thoughts?
  10. First thing to check is that she is using a ladies, not a man's saddle - they are different shapes, and it makes a big difference. Ladies' saddles are generally speaking wider and shorter, to fit our pelvis and 'bum bones'.
  11. What's the Tuesday evening ride?
  12. thanks - will do.
  13. I know that there's a long ride that mtb people do out the back of Durbanville, mostly on gravel - 80 or 90kms worth. Does anyone have the route? I know it's been discussed on the hub before, but don't even know what to search for! Would like to do a long route over the long weekend.
  14. Is there anything like this in Cape Town?
  15. I am one of those short people. I can get a compact 48cm, a 50cm or a 51cm to fit by changing saddle position and stem (without messing up riding position), but as soon as I get a 52cm bike, it feels too big. And there is nothing you can do to make the distance from the seat post to the headset shorter! Just doesn't fit.
  16. Commencal Meta 5.5. I LOVE MY BIKE!
  17. phpBB or myBB. Both free open source forum software packages. I have just set up a forum on a website using myBB - seems to work okay and wasn't TOO hard to set up - and I am not a technical person.
  18. We are not against men riding with us, but many men simply get frustrated and irritated when they have to ride at our speed. We are not trying to conquer the world... we want to enjoy our cycling. The reason we want company is because we DO realise the dangers of cycling alone. We also keep to areas that we know are relatively safe. You're welcome to join us if you're not going to get irritated! Meerendal at 08:30 tomorrow morning if you want to join us!
  19. Hi, there are three of us girls who have just started riding together during the week. We are all quite close to the Majik Forest / Meerendal area. I'm keen to ride with you. Also doing Karoo to Coast ... tried it last year, but I bailed and didn't finish. This year, I want to finish. I'll PM you my e-mail address.
  20. I know of a Group Finance Manager position available in Houghton, JHB. Contract position: 3 - 6 months. Big reputable company. CA required to manage the accounting department. PM me if you're interested and I will get you details.
  21. There's a Litespeed Sewanee for sale here: Sewanee It doesn't look like it has a 'dent' in the frame where your frame has a dent. Maybe yours got its dent post production, which is why they think its had a heavy impact?

    Thursday ride

To FRAIL, and other Cape Town northern suburbs cyclists: anyone doing a longish, slowish ride (mtb or road) on Thursday? Need to get some distance in.
  23. How fast?
  24. What's happened to the Wed night rides? Haven't seen a notice for a while.
  25. My husband picked up a watch near the start of the ride, along Ou Wapad. Unfortunately he forgot to give it in at the end of the race, so its now in Cape Town. If you lost a watch, drop me a pm and describe it.
