    Doesn't have to be Matjiesfontein; just some areas we haven't ridden, not too far from Cape Town. I don't want to ride from Cape Town - we've done that often enough. The Matjiesfontein idea came about when we thought we could catch a train there - something different to do.

    Hello Hubbers. I'm wanting to do a bike trip from Matjiesfontein to Cape Town (get dropped off in Matjiesfontein because I don't think the normal train is running), then bike-pack back to Cape Town, either camping or staying in accommodation along the way. Hoping for mostly gravel, to stay off main roads - and we are not RASA riders, so nothing too extreme! Routes, ideas, tips please. We've bikepacked before, but haven't done this area.

    Hey ChrisF - that was us with the tandem. I wish I'd known it was you sitting there - would have said hello. The lady is both blind and deaf (she has cochlear implants), and is absolutely remarkable. An absolute inspiration, and a pleasure to ride with. My husband is one of her tandem pilots.

    AlexBr, where did you find 650B rim brake wheels, or did you need to get them built up for you?

    Day permits are allowed to ride the D'Aria loop, but at the end of the dam, they need to turn back towards Bloemendal, and not towards the Protea Hotel. That's where the day permit ends. There is a sign at that point, at the wooden bridge, that this section, towards the Protea Hotel, is for members only.

    They added the snakes to make the trails more challenging for those who complain that they're too easy.

    Are there any Hub spouses/families hanging around Montagu while this race is on, possibly keen to do a bike ride or a hike? I'm keen to try, but not alone. (I'm slow and social rider/hiker!)
