  6. Not since Yolande Speedy, in 2013, has a South African woman stood upon the top step of the Absa Cape Epic podium. In recent years, Robyn de Groot, Mariske Strauss and Candice Lill have had shots at the title, though all three came up short. Local fans will, therefore, be thrilled to read that two of the three will combine as a local super team in 2020. Riding as Faces CST, Strauss and Lill are the first all-South African team with a realistic chance of victory in nearly a decade. Click here to view the article
  7. In 2016 they finished fourth. In 2017 they finished fifth. In 2018 they stepped onto the podium, finishing third. In 2019 they went one better, earning the silver medal. The question for the 2020 Absa Cape Epic is if Cannondale Factory Racing can add the names "Manuel Fumic and Henrique Avancini" to the race's list of overall winners. Click here to view the article
  8. The 2020 Epic route has been announced and I thought I'd update the comparison I did last year. It looks like more of the same as last year... shorter route with high climbing rate / intensity. Coupled with the location (hot, rocky and dry), it will be another tough one. As before, RED is tough, BLUE / GREEN is less tough, but not by any scientific means. As there is limited data of what to include, I simply look at distance, ascent and and ascent rate in m/km terms. For me, distance, coupled with climb intensity is a pretty good measure of overall effort (difficulty), but this is not the case for everyone. (Click on the images to enlarge)
  9. I am looking for a partner for 2020. 1. I have an entry. 2. You’ll need to cover your share of the entry price. 3. Ideally have ridden EPIC before (next year will be my 5th...) 4. Be in the 40+ age category. 5. Ideally be based in Cape Town. All of these conditions are not mandatory (except sharing the cost ????) - just looking for the right partner for this exciting challenge in 2020. Please PM me if interested and we can take it from there... Cheers!

  20. This year the Absa Cape Epic finishes for the first time at Val de Vie and its renowned polo fields – the fourth host for the Grand Finale in the race’s 14 editions. After leaving Oak Valley the finish is just 85km away and the riders have the least climbing to do on any day of the 2017 Absa Cape Epic. They will, however, be well advised to keep some energy in spare for the climb up the Franschhoek Pass after about 40km. That seven kilometre haul rises nearly 400m, marking the last major climb of the 2017 Absa Cape Epic. Click here to view the article
