  1. Hi everyone I am after a older Bianchi 1885 alu carbon mix. Where do I look ? Does anyone have ? Also happy to buy it in parts if anyone has a frame available? let me know !
  2. I've been getting, on average, two flats per ride. And it sucks... Always the back tyre and (this part I can't quite explain yet) almost always going downhill (probably because I'm not going fast enough on flats!). The back wheel is a Bianchi Reparto Corse and there was, what I can only describe as a "bump" each time the area where the white spokes are, hit the ground. I reckoned the wheel needs truing and that it can somehow be linked to the punctures. Wheel somewhat trued, the flats continued. On my last ride, while changing another flat tyre, I noticed that the rim tape seemed to have moved slightly, exposing a sliver of one of the spoke holes. This is, I'm hoping, the cause of the punctures. I want to buy some rim tape to fix it myself. Are there things to look out for, like a set width or brand that is best? Muchas gracias in advance.
  3. Hi all, so after being a "Look" guy for a while, the time has come to try something new. I have narrowed my options down to the Bianchi XR4 and the Colnago Concept. This is such a difficult decision for obvious reasons so was hoping to get some unbiased opinions to help with the decision.

  5. Ever wanted to revive a beat-up old classic to restore it to its former glory? After years of being off bikes in general, I decided to create a piece of “functional” art fit for our living room. It started with an advert on Gumtree: “Steel Bianchi for sale, excellent condition. No Wheels. R 1,000 ONCO”. This is what “Excellent Condition” looks like nowadays: http://mudcakedface.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1150.jpg Several small touches revealed her heritage though...Stamped seat stay caps, proudly bearing a “B” for Bianchi: http://mudcakedface.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1156.jpg What is more fun than spending a weekend with paint stripper and a wire brush, turning an old hag into a naked canvas? http://mudcakedface.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1163.jpg I loved the little bits of copper brazing you can see where the joins are exposed. Artisanal. Lots of pondering, resulting in a final call. The entire shebang will be chromed, fork ‘n all. Finding a shop to do the job was a mission, but I happened upon a place close to home. After weeks of waiting, the result came back… http://mudcakedface.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1262.jpg A couple of blemishes in the finish, with some rough patches, but nothing terminal. I added some mark-ups to show where decals should go, and where the paint/chrome transitions should be. Next stop, CycleArt (Webpage here), with a brief: Make it classic please. On one of the most beautiful days of my life, I stopped at CycleArt’s shop out South of Johannesburg to collect the mystery package. Little did I know what was in store… Drop outs more stunning than the day she was sold: http://mudcakedface.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1282.jpg Tube-to-lug transitions to make you shed a tear: http://mudcakedface.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/02/IMG_1284.jpg I could have done better with the stickers (will definitely recommend airbrushing in future). Sadly, the project hit a massive pause here as priorities changed, what with moving house and all that. I guess in a way, I realised this wasn’t going to be a quick back-yard build. All parts would have to be sourced carefully and strictly within the increasingly narrow confines of what my mind’s eye was starting to see. No more Internet shopping for parts, no siree. About 6 months later, I stumble upon Whippet Cycles in Maboneng district, Johannesburg (Website here). Innocently, I bought a set of handlebars. Week later, I bought a set of wheels…the project was on again! (from my blog at http://mudcakedface.com/build-projects/bianchi-single-speed-build/)

  10. On February 2015 I bought a very nice bicycle from Epicbikeshop, before purchasing it I had a long conversation with them through emails about what I was going to buy and they assured me many times (got written emails) that once I would leave South Africa i was going to get the VAT back. In April I left Cape Town and one week before leaving I again asked them if the invoice was fine and if I needed anything else in order to get the money back. They told me i just had to bring the Invoice with the bicycle and they would give me the money back. The day I left I went earlier to the airport just in case something would go wrong. When I went to the VAT Refund office the person working there checked the bicycle and when she took a look at the invoice she told me that the VAT number of the store was missing from the letter. If I wanted to get the VAT back I had to provide them with a proper invoice. Then she actually called them and asked them to send a proper invoice with the VAT number on it, she also told them that if they charged me the VAT without having it registered they had to refund me the money. They assured her that they were going to send a proper invoice right away since we were waiting at the airport for this but after 30-40 minutes it still didn't happen. I called them again because I was in rush and they finally sent it on my email. I went to print it and when the worker at the airport checked the invoice with the VAT on it, it showed on the system that the VAT was not registered! So she told me to leave her all my information and in case the VAT was good they would inspect it and send me a debit card on my home address. I had to leave to catch my flight. In July 2015 I finally get a mail from the South African Tax department saying that the VAT of the vendor has been excluded from Export Incentive Scheme therefore unable to process my claim! I called the Epic Bike Shop and they told me that they are going to find a solution with the VAT and that they will give me back the money. Spoke with them a few weeks ago and they told me that the new VAT is still in process. Is this something that often happens in South Africa? I really don't want to lose the money, they have to give me back my money for the VAT that I paid. What can I do about it? I would really appreciate any suggestions,

  13. Hi all, A bianchi road bike frame was bought around this time last year through an authorised dealer. This weekend at a race, the hanger supplied with the new frame snapped and the result was that the derailler smashed through the rear seat stay of the carbon frame. Luckily the frame was insured and they are sorting it out. My local dealer told me that the frame will not be replaced under warranty because hangers are working parts and they fail from time to time. If the hanger is a year old and came with the frame, is this the correct interpretation? Surely the manufacturer should be held liable? Just curious, no shaming or flaming planned at all. The bike is owned by a chilled out 60 year old lady that just loves cycling, she is no big racer and rides very slowly (well she climbs rather well but descends like a grandma)
  14. Hi there, I currently have a Bianchi VIA Nirone 7 Alu bicycle. Firstly where about would be the best, or perhaps someone can inform me here on The HUB SA about the price of this frame i can expect to get 2nd hand? (obviously depending on the condition). I am wanting to upgrade and use my Campag components on a carbon frame im wanting to buy. Thanx for your help. Thurstan
  15. Some advise please. I ride a Bianchi Centro Strada C2C that I absolutely love. I am considering upgrading the wheels and have no clue where to start. I weigh 82 kg and have been road riding for about 9 months. To start with, there are a few issues I'd really appreciate some input on: 1. I assume that it would be sacrilege to put anything other than Italian wheels on my Bianchi. The components are all Campagnola, so obviously that would appear to be the place to start. 2. Do I sell my current wheels (only done about 800 km), and put the sprocket on the new wheels? Then I would do all my riding on the new wheels only. Or should I have two sets of wheels? 3. Should I buy new from my LBS or can I buy second hand off the Hub? 4. I would like to stay under 10k all in with tyres, sprockets etc. Will I feel a real improvement in my ride at this price point? I love the "comfort" element of my ride. How do I upgrade without ruining this?
