  6. Bike 1: Silverback Stride 27.5" MD Bike 2: Silverback Stride 29" HD Area, Pretoria. Close to Wolwespruit House broken into on 7 May 2019 Don't have a nice pic of the 29" It's me mum's bike, will see if I can find more info later. Both bikes have gotten 'small' upgrades sometime after these pics were taken: The 29er has Ryder Dual Elite pedals now and should have a tubetubby as well. Can't remember whether the saddlebag was still on. Should also be a red silicone light tied on somewhere. The 27.5 has new platform pedals and a clip under the seat for the saddlebag which they conveniently did not take. There was also a black bell on the handlebars (with paint missing from a fall) and a red silicone light clipped on the right front shock. Maxxis tyre at the front, some other brand on the back since I blew a tyre and tube last month. Hope this might help.

  10. Saw this on outside online, in theory it could work, especially if all 2nd hand sales had access to scanner and all bikes got chipped. Would certainly stop pawn shops selling stolen bikes... https://www.outsideonline.com/2191976/finding-stolen-bike-just-got-lot-easier
  11. while killing time at the orifice today I wandered across this inidegogo campaign. Its aimed at kids and pets but I thought it would be great to use with the things we love the most. Tracking down our bikes. It reads to be a pretty badass GPS tracker that you could hide somewhere on your bike and then if stolen locate your bike on the app. The cell subscription seems pretty reasonable $89 (+ $10 for international coverage) - and if one bulk buys 10 then this comes down to $78. This include a year of data coverage subs - then i think its $46 a year every year after that... Oh battery like is 3 months. What do you guys think? https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/ping-the-world-s-smallest-global-gps-locator-bluetooth#/ I see it has an accelerometer built in so it could be updated to have crash detection built in..
  12. This bike was recovered by the SAPS in the Hermanus area. Pls contact w.o. Visagie on 0283135308 to reclaim.

  17. The SA Cycle Register has been developed to help protect SA Cyclists by providing a system where bicycle details can be uploaded, bicycles may be flagged as stolen and most importantly; 2nd hand bicycle buyers, retailers and law enforcement have the ability to query bicycle flag information based on the serial number or DataDot PIN number of the bicycle. The register also allows retailers to upload bicycle service history and verify details loaded by users. This system is user generated and free. The SA Cycle Register would appreciate any feedback on usabilty of the site as well as any thoughts on the issue of identification in the cycling industry. www.cycleregister.co.za Remember - Assets which have their identitites protected cannot be legitimately sold if they are stolen, which deters criminals from stealing protected assets. @SACycleRegister

My bicycle(very similar to attached Pic) was stolen out of my car in the early hours of Thursday morning(27/11/14), along with all my cycling bag with all my kit in it, and my normal clothes bag. I had packed the car around 9pm on Wednesday evening to go home on Thursday. The car was parked at my commune in Hatfield, Pretoria. On the off chance you come across anything like it, please email me at julian.wertheim.aymes@tuks.co.za Please share this post and encourage your friends to share it around South Africa, and the South African Cycling community.
  22. With a new bicycle rack design, a bicycle labelling system and new signage to raise awareness, the Singapore Police Force and National Crime Prevention Council hope to tackle the theft of bicycles.http://www.channelnewsasia.com/image/1489124/1416721239000/large16x9/768/432/bicycle-lock.jpg SINGAPORE: Three key Anti-Bicycle Theft Initiatives were announced by the Singapore Police Force (SPF) and the National Crime Prevention Council (NCPC) on Sunday (Nov 23). The first initiative is a pilot of a new bicycle rack design, named Lock Lah, which improves on the security of old racks without high costs and space requirements. Launched on Nov 7 at nine locations across the island (such as Velocity mall, Teck Whye Lane and parts of Hougang), it impedes access to the front wheel of the bicycle, while offering additional loops to secure the frame and back wheels with a cable lock. In coming up with the prototype design, the rack's designers - a trio of Indonesian international students - studied various bicycle shapes from around the world, and eventually won a competition organised by the SPF and the NCPC organised from February to July last year. The second initiative is an enhanced bicycle labelling system. In partnership with bicycle online classifieds and forum Togoparts, the SPF now offers each bicycle owner a label with a unique serial number for each bicycle owned. With this number, owners can then provide information about the particular bike online such as its model, features and colours, as well as submit photos. They can also specify if the bicycle is currently in their possession, lost, stolen or found. http://www.channelnewsasia.com/blob/1489128/1416721222000/bicycle-register-data.jpg Finally, new anti-theft bicycle signage will be posted near bicycle racks across the island to increase awareness of bicycle theft. About 7,000 of such signage has already been posted, with more to be rolled out in phases. These measures are part of a continuous effort to tackle theft of bicycles. Though figures have fallen since last year - 588 cases were reported for the period of January to June this year, compared to 630 for the same period in 2013 - the Police say such theft remains a major concern.
