  1. Is it now completely acceptable that e-bikes are considered a Bicycle and allowed in Cycle Races? I think they should banned from Cycle Races and given an event just for them. I won't mention names but 2 riders switched bikes (one e-bike and the other on a road bike) in the 99er, yes you know who you are. So how is this a fair result even if it's just a fun ride. I mean why then complain when Cyclist draft a truck or bus, it's then just a fun ride.
  2. Hi All , I've searched the sections but failed to hit on the subject of MTbike to e-bike conversion . If it has please post a redirect Link. So I 'have a Genius 2020 aluminium frame ...due to conflicting health issues it's getting difficult to get out on my regular Tokai Trails, up jeep track down singles. I see across the pond the guys are doing pretty decent conversions. Has anybody In SA "better still the Cape" sourced the conversion kit or necessary parts to do the conversion. I have seen locally we have Chilled Squirrel doing in house conversions. thanks Howard.
  3. After having had surgery in April this year and not having been able to train, the thought of 7 days of continuous mountain biking was quite daunting and to be honest I could not have completed the tour without the use of the BH E-bike. Before trusting the robustness and reliability of the E-bike, the shop let me test ride the EV966 and put it through it paces prior to picking it up to ensure that I would have no issues. They even through in an additional back up battery for me to use – all in all really fantastic service from the entire team at BH bikes. By Marc Erasmus - Stage Location Manager for Absa Cape Epic. 4. In 2015 Specialized announced the Turbo Levo, a range of electric pedal-assist trail bikes, and have since rolled out several variations. These include a women’s specific, a fat bike, a hardtail, a full suspension 29er, and a full-suspension 27.5-plus model which we spent last Friday afternoon riding at the spectacular Jonkershoek trails. UPDATE 18 September 2018: Specialized has launched a new Turbo Levo. Take a look at that bike here. Click here to view the article
  5. Giant entered the mountain bike e-bike market with two distinct models. The Full-E a 130mm rear and 140mm front dual suspension bike and the Dirt-E hardtail. Click here to view the article
  6. At Trek World, Trek's annual retailer show in Madison, Wisconsin, the company unveiled Powerfly, a new line of full suspension and hardtail pedal-assist mountain bikes. Powerfly's North American release builds on what has quickly become one of Trek's most popular bike lines in Europe. Powerfly will allow everyone to experience more of what makes mountain biking great, letting more riders go farther, ride more often, and tackle more challenging terrain. 7. In the early days of mountain biking, riders were forced to settle for products that had been designed for use on road bikes. Modifications were made, but the roots of the design were not completely purpose built, not mountain biking specific. Suspension got better and frame design improved. We began to question the conventional wisdom—challenge the old design ideas that limit what can be done to push the sport into the future. SRAM 1x technology was an incredible step forward for the mountain bike drivetrain, and has had a profound effect on not only the way bikes are designed but also the way people ride them. 8. Hi all, Does anyone have any first hand experience or views on Giant's e-bikes? For some background, my wife had a stroke a couple of years ago, so she is not allowed to do any strenuous exercise as a result of the medication she is on. So we go for the occasional ride, but as an example a 5k trail ride would take between 30-35mins so we keep heart rate in check. This weekend rented an e-bike and we could do the same ride in like 22 mins keeping heart rate in check and do the trail twice. So I am looking at the Giant Stance, based on online specs, some reviews and the brand itself. But at the price point, I want to make sure I get the best bang for my buck in terms of performance, reliability, backup and obviously current stock availability of bikes in general. Much appreciated.
  9. Hi all I'm new to e-bikes, is there a specific e-bike forum? I have done a few Cape Town Cycle Tours but want to do it on an e-bike next year, is second batteries allowed?

  11. Good evening all I have had my E-Caliber for a month now and love it. 🥰 I have done more "analogue" rides now than e-bike rides - the reason why I bought it - to use both modes. Question : Can I enter a "race" or an "event" in "Analogue" mode? For those that do not know - you remove the motor and the battery and replace it with a hollow down tube. @chrisf and others - I will appreciate your help. Thanks Cassie
  12. Hi All im new to daily cycling i have a a fixed speed finnis 540. my issue is I'm really struggling on my daily commute 90% of which is on a steep uphill. firstly i know that a fixed speed bike isnt going to make this commute any easier but as someone who is extremely unfit and overweight(130kg) i want to make sure that I can also enjoy my morning commute with out arriving at work in dire need of a shower. so i have been contemplating getting an E-bike for the ride and also to possibly to start doing some trails on weekends. I come here with a few questions: 1) is it actually worth the purchase? will it make that big of a difference on the daily commute or am i just better off sucking it up for the ride? 2)should i convert my current bike or just get a new one? 3) is there anywhere in and around joburg that i could rent or a hire a bike to try it out for myself to see if it is actually worth it ?
