  1. I have a set of Mavic Cosmic Carbone SR's. Model is 2012. I need to replace the front bearings and axle. So I take it to my LBS to have it replaced. Long story short it has now been more than 3 weeks and the Mavic agent couldn't care less about supplying the required parts. No reason for delay i.e on order etc - Just nothing. Last year I had a 2010 model ksyruim hub replaced with spokes within 2 weeks when the LBS sent it directly to Mavic. Can someone perhaps help with a direct contact of someone at Mavic who I can contact directly? Or where can I find said parts on-line? Thanks for any feedback!
  2. I have a choice of the following wheelsets Mavic aksium elite evo ust Shimano rs500-tl Fulcrum Racing 600What wheelset will you pick, or any other wheelset in the same price. https://bike.shimano.com/en-EU/product/component/ultegra-r8000/WH-RS500-TL-R.html https://www.fulcrumwheels.com/en/wheels/road-bike-wheels/racing-6 https://shop.mavic.com/en-be/aksium-elite-ust-rr1147.html
  3. The new DJI Mavic Mini is on the way! Looks like a decent drone to start with! R8999 for the flymore combo, that is pretty decent too! R6999 for the Drone only. 30min flight time 3 Axis Gimbal Ok so No 4K video but 2.7K at 30fps or Full HD at 60fps Not much more needed for social media anyway. I need a drone! Have been looking at the Mavic Air for a while, until I saw the Mavic Mini yesterday! Question is, save up and get the Air or get the Mini, get some experience and upgrade later? The Mini is released close enough to Christmas to call it a "To Me, From Me" Christmas gift right? and the promo video
  4. So I have a set of each and I want to keep one and sell the other. I wanted to get a few opinions on what to keep and what to sell. I appreciate your opinions. Mavics have the alloy brake track.
  5. I found this classic in a storage unit at a retirement village (don't ask what I was doing there). Fixed it up, serviced hubs, derailleurs, headset etc. Removed all the rust and put it back together. All the parts are still original, except the chain, which was rusted beyond saving and the spokes. Specs are as follows: Frame: Du Toit Columbus 531 Fork/Headset: Du Toit Columbus 531 Pedals: Gipiemme Dual Sprint Derailleurs/Shifters: Campagnolo 980 6 speed Handlebars/Stem: Fiamme Dallas/ Cinelli Quill Saddle/Seatpost: Selle Italia Anatomica Brakes: Modolo Speedy Gold Front Wheel/Hub/Tire: Mavic GP4/ Campagnolo 980 Rear Wheel/Hub/Tire: Mavic GP4/ Campagnolo 980 If anyone's interested, Here's my modest collection: https://www.pedalroom.com/members/MrFocus
  6. Simple question, can you use Campy Blu brake pads that are made for Campy Ultra Mille Wheel on the Mavic Cosmic Carbon Exalith wheel?
  7. So I bought a pair from Buycycle. Ordered them in a UK7. The same as all my other shoes. They arrived quickly. I loved them the moment I opened the box but when I fit them on they were too tight. Not the kind of tight you're confident enough will stretch out either. I had to return them. Did some digging and according to some user reviews on CRC. Ordering one size bigger is recommended when taking these Mavics. Wish I read that before I ordered. Nevertheless. Despite the superb service I got from Buycycle. From the prompt communication and how easily they accommodated me with regards to returning the shoe. They were unable to source a size UK8 elsewhere. (Thank you Ashley, I appreciate the effort) So I'm hoping that some local Mavic stockist has these shoes in a UK8 somewhere. Its a long shot. But I'm not ready to give up on them and consider alternatives just yet. http://static.jensonusa.com/images/Default-Image/MobileImage/0/SH242B01.jpg
  8. So this happened... Anybody tried to weld something like this? Or any other bright ideas? I'm a cheapskate so want to fix it.
  9. Hey guys, Here's the deal: I want to know how much you would pay for this 2011 Rocky Mountain Element 30msl. Let's say the condition is very good (see ad pics). Throw a figure out, or provide a range: highest and lowest amount depending on whatever your criteria are. The ad has everything you need to know. 26" lovers and haters are ALL WELCOME. Throw the offer on the ground or press it tightly to your bosom and sing sweet songs of longing. Thanks for your input.
  10. Mavic launched the Cosmic Pro Carbon SL C to replace the Cosmic 40 C wheels in their range. Mavic have moved away from using an alloy extrusion wrapped in a carbon fibre shell to a full carbon construction and, in doing so, have managed to drop the overall wheelset weight from 1,550 g to 1,450 g with a claimed rim weight of 450 g per rim. 12. Hi Guys Im looking at possibly spending R10k on a wheelset for my road bike, depending on what the insurance pay out. It will be replacing my Mavic Ksyrium SSC SL wheels. Ill use the wheels everyday, training and racing. Ive do also have a set of 45mm carbon rims still waiting for hubs which will eventually be just for racing. I was thinking of getting a cheaper wheelset and the hubs with the change perhaps. Looking at getting Hope RS Mono hubs, DT 240s is slightly outa budget. The training/wheels need to be fit and forget type setup. Fulcrum racing 3 Mavic Ksyrium Elite Mavic Cosmic Campag Zonda American 420 Shimano RS81 HELP!
  13. Hi Guys I recently bought a set of wheels from a guy who advertised them on the HUB. Not being a professional wheel builder I tried to asses the wheels for anything strange on them after I met the seller with the wheels. After some inspection I noticed a small dent on the rear wheel, I made it clear to the seller and he looked me in the eye saying that it has no effect on the wheel or the tubeless ability of it. Taking his word for it (*stupid of me I know*) I bought the wheels and fitted them to my bike, not long into my 1st ride I noticed a bump coming from the back, I then went off the trail and onto some smooth tar road, here the bump was very noticeable. After have the back wheel assessed by two LBS's in my area, It comes down to a bust rear wheel due to a massive flat-spot on it. The seller however refuses to accept that he sold me a busted wheel-set, and refund me or replace the rear wheel. And says I can take him to court if I want my money back. WHAT SHOULD I DO?
  14. Hi Anyone know where i can get a bearing for Mavic Kysyrium Free Hub Bearing (22mm OD x 9mm ID x 7mm Thickness). Struck out at bearing man so any help advice appreciated.
  15. This weekend, a strange thing happened to my son's rear Mavic axle. (which resulted in a premature ending of our ride as mentioned in another thread) While we were riding, he heard a squeak and then stopped, telling me that it felt like his brakes were stuck. I checked the brakes and there was clearance on either side of the disk so they were not the problem. I took off the wheel and the axle was totally stuck. When the wheel turned, it was the axle rotating in the wheel lugs where the skewer tightens against the lug and the axle. There was already some damage to the aluminium! The only thing that turned in the axle was the end cap. When we eventually got home I stripped the axle. To my surprise, NO BEARINGS were damaged! But what did seem to happen is that the ring that sets the tension against the bearing had tightened itself to the point that the axle no longer moved. This part is behind the disk rotor and cannot be accessed without removing the rotor. I completely stripped, cleaned and re-assembled and it all works again without replacing anything but grease! Still have to test on a real ride but all seems well again. Any ideas on what would cause this?
  16. Need some advice I noticed quite a bit of play on my road bike' cassette on the inner side of the wheel I purchased a new Freehub and when fitted, there is still some play. The play is slightly less than on the old Freehub. As per my knowledge their should be no play or it should be small enough that it is almost un-noticed. Anyone had a similar experience? I took it to a LBS but I think it too technical for them!! I have 2 option: Replace hub as rest of wheel is still in good orderFind a mechanical engineering firm that make me a new bushAny advice appreciated?
  17. With the same will to provide the best combination of performance and reliability, Mavic is introducing two new XC MTB wheel-tyre systems: Crossmax Pro and Crossmax Elite. Click here to view the article
  18. Amer Sports, which owns Mavic and other outdoors brands, has just announced their acquisition of ENVE Composites for $50 million in cash. The official statement (copied after the break) says the deal expands Amer Sports’ operational scale, which seems interesting considering ENVE’s comparatively small manufacturing facility in Ogden, Utah. The statement also claims ENVE’s annual sales to be around $30 million, which is a rare peek into the size of the until-now privately held company. http://www.bikerumor.com/2016/02/22/mavics-parent-company-amer-sports-acquires-enve-composites/
  19. Hi All, Looking for some assistance. I ride a Silverback Space 2.0 (Full carbon & Ultegra groupset) On a recent ride, someone rode into the back of me (nothing serious) but the rear stay paint is not chipped & slight damage to the rear wheel as well. I am looking at getting the chips repaired & possibly getting a custom spray job done. At the same time, was looking to get the wheelset refurbished of the scratches etc, to suit the new paint job that the frame may soon have. Any ideas on who does wheelset repair/refurbishment? Is has a set of Mavic Aksiums. Also, is it worth getting this done, or just getting a new set of wheels (that are not too expensive) I am a weekend rider, Sunday mornings riding about 120kms, so nothing major, & my bike is 3 years old? Any thoughs/suggestions will be helpful. Thanks in advance.
  20. Hi guys, I'm looking for some advice on which road wheelset would best suit me as a rider. Background: I've been using an entry level shimano wheelset for the past 7 years and would like to replace them with something a bit better. I'm a light rider @ 65kg's, enjoy climbs and am weak on the flats. I'm looking at the second hand market (around R4500) and am keen on either: Mavic Ksyrium Elite American Classic 420 Aero | 3 I will be using these wheels for training and racing. I only race a couple of times a year and can't justify 2 wheelsets. Will the aero profile of the AC improve my riding on the flats? Does anyone have experience with both of these wheels? What is the quality like of the two brands? Any advice is welcome
  21. I went out for a training ride this morning - hill intervals to be exact. When i kicked on the steeper part of the climb my rear wheel suddenly locked up. Long story short the rear wheel was buckling so badly that even after I opened the brake calipers it still touched both sides. Inspected the wheel when I got home and found the rear hub had cracked - see pic attached. It is a Ksyruim SL 2009 Model. Wheels were completely re-spoked by Mavic 2 weeks ago. 1) Has anybody seen this before? 2) Is this a known problem with these wheels? 3) What could have caused this to happen? 4) Any chance the respoking of the wheels could have led to this? (Faulty workmanship?)
  22. Hallo everybody Ive got a quick question. What would you recommend as a daily use road wheelset for about R 5500? Ive narrowed it down to the following. All prices from evobikes American classic sprint 350 R5495 http://www.evobikes.co.za/wheels/wheelsets-road/american-classic-sprint-350-road-wheelset.html American classic victory 30 R4195 http://www.evobikes.co.za/wheels/wheelsets-road/american-classic-victory-30-tubeless-clincher-wheelset.html Mavic cosmic elite s R 5995 with tyres http://www.evobikes.co.za/wheels/wheelsets-road/mavic-cosmic-elite-wheel-set.html Mavic ksyrium Equipe WTS R 5295 http://www.evobikes.co.za/wheels/wheelsets-road/mavic-ksyrium-equipe-s-black-m10.html Shimano RS 61 R 4495 Not to keen on the cup n cone setup http://www.evobikes.co.za/wheels/wheelsets-road/shimano-rs61-tl-wheelset.html Im just weighing up some option between getting one of the above or keep a set of fulcrum racing 3's which needs an 11 spd freehub body or I can modify the 10 spd one currently fitted Have an awesome evening Mop
  23. Hi Guys Need some input... Of late, I have been doing a bit more riding than usual (road), and I'm getting a bit concerned around the potential wear and tear on my wheels and tyres... Also, if I have a wheel issue or require truing I'll be stuffed. I am currently running a set of Mavic R Sys with the Continental Gp4000s tyres. The replacement cost on the wheels are substantial. I am therefore contemplating getting a training wheel set (Mavic aksiums currently on sale at CWC for R2000 along with a set of Conti Gatorskins. Will probably use the R Sys for longer weekend rides maybe. Would this be a good move? Or am I wasting money. Also considering getting the 25c in the Gatorskins. Your input will be appreciated.
  24. So so sad, my SOMA Double Cross Disc, was stolen last night. Please keep an eye out for me. It is an unusual bike in that it is a steel framed road bike with disk brakes. It is probably the only SOMA Double Cross in Cape Town? Here are the details: Colour: black Material: Steel Tange Prestige Drivetrain: Shimano Dura Ace Seatpost & stem: Silver Thompson Wheels: Mavic Open Pro rims , Shimano XT hubs, 32cm Continental Gatorskin tyres Saddle: San Marco Rolls. Brakes: Shimano discs Handle bar: Silver Mtb Nickle Wide It was a break-in stolen from a home in Rosebank Cape Town. I will pay a generous reward to anyone who finds this bike for me.
