  1. Went to Rook Cycles' store in Long Street Cape Town yesterday. Store looks amazing Vibe was fantastic Great group of guys to chat with and chat fixie, or just bike. Highly recommended!
  2. Hey guys! ????‍♂️???? I’m new on here and I need your advice. I am currently doing a 3 months internship in Cape Town (staying here until the end of Nov) and I bought myself an SE Lager singlespeed bike. I really like the bike and would love to take it home to Germany with me. Unfortunately, I can’t take it with me on the airplane because I am already exceeding my baggage weight allowance and paying overweight for the bike is not an option. Can you recommend me a shipping company that would ship the bike for me via seaways from Cape Town to Germany? Cheers, Lasse
  3. I’ve been riding only singlespeeds for quite a few years, and have recently got a bike with gears again. I had a bit of chain slip with the geared bike and did some research on chain wear and replacement, cassette, and chainrings, etc. It made me realise that I haven’t done the same for my singlespeed components, so I took out my chain wear indicator and checked my XC SS. Turns out the chain is very worn. The chainring is very visibly worn too. But, I haven’t had any performance issues yet. No slipping or anything. (It’s a big fat SS chain and chainring.) So, is there any reason I shouldn’t just keep using them? I have some spare chains, but have struggled to find a nice replacement SS chainring. Any suggestions? I’m based in Zim, but have friends in Jo’burg and Cape Town who could receive anything I order.
  4. Time for the brainfart to be penned down for assistance and critique. My history with SS's: I have built and owned various SS roadbikes over the past 5 years or so, with the newest being a well spec'd (IMO) SimpleSam, which I absolutely love. But she is mostly used as a commuter to gym and the odd road cruise. I am toying with the idea of building a MTB singlespeed, however I have the following questions: 1) I own a Merida 120 duel sus, how do you choose which bike to ride? 2) Do I start off cheap as chips, as I started with the road bike, or do I make it a year or 2 long project and build it to a decent spec? 3) From the guys in the know, does it make a difference to the riding/feel whether you go dedicated SS frame vs std frame with a tensioner? Regards L
  5. Attention singlespeeders! The Gravel Travel is fast approaching and I would love to know who has entered the Wilde Gravel Travel Singlespeed category. 60 kms with 1600m of climbing so it should be a tough day in the saddle. https://www.facebook.com/WildeGravelTravel
  6. Hey Guys, I was at a friends house earlier, on palmyra road, just between the vet and mariendahl road (claremont), I took my bike in their drive-way, parked it at the end around the corner of the house, so not visible from the road, and it was stolen while I was in the house. (stolen between 1pm and 5pm) I don't think I have any pictures of it, but I know a lot detail... Here goes some of it: Blue Scott speedster S3 frame, it's massive, 61cm, and the seat was high (I'm 193cm or so). Black carbon DEDA fork Silver BBB seatpost Anodized blue vuelta airline road rims (rear wheel very out of true, recently had a pretty bad crash) with gatorskins tyres. 39/16 ratio, silver, shimano ultegra crankset, 8 spline BB (not hollowtech). old road clip-in pedals (the old popular look exus pedals) Red anodized alu straight bars, cut short. champagne corks as bar-ends, wrapped black suede leather grips (done myself, not the best job) Black brake levers (straight bar levers) Normal silver road caliper brakes The stem was a ritchey comp stem, I think. Also has a little orange "B" cut out of tape on the frame somewhere (under the down-tube, or behind the seat-tube, somewhere like that). Also took that with my helmet, a blue Bell "faction" helmet, which I'll post a stock photo of, it had some stickers on it (a big yellow thumbs-up and B-E-N in orange tape too), because my name is Ben... duh. If you guys see anything like this, anything similar, please phone/email/getahold of me ASAP, the bike was really comfortable for me, so I kinda want it back. 0787115873, benjamin.r.bingham@gmail.com.
  7. I picked up this old bike recently. All info I got is that it's a Phillips bike which says "Made in England" on the handle bar. According to Wikipedia by 1980's Phillips was bought over by Raleigh. Also I read recently that from 1920, by law, you had to inscribe "Made in (destination)" on your products. Before that you could just put "England" on it, for example. So 1920 - 1980? Does anyone have more knowledge about this specific bike and from what time period it is? I'm toying with the idea of re-chroming the shiny bits and doing a full restoration. The bike is still in working condition - pumped up the tires and took it for a spin just after I got it and it felt good.

  9. I need a brake lever for my single speed project, I have the calipers and cable. I'm battling to find anything on gumtree and the hub. Anyone out there got any that they want to sell? Or know a decent one to buy?
