  1. Hi all! Please check out this passion project I did. For those that don't know Marco Joubert - some of his achievements include Top 20 Overall Finish at 2018 Cape Epic and making the shortlist for 2016 Olympics XCO race. I know Marco so I wanted to focus on the rider and riding, so no cheesy bike and brand promotions. Hope you like it.
  2. Something like this? http://cyclingabout.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/05/gates-carbon-belt-drive-commuter-cdx4boltsystem.jpg
  3. That's also what stood out for me. Made it unique.
  4. I picked up this old bike recently. All info I got is that it's a Phillips bike which says "Made in England" on the handle bar. According to Wikipedia by 1980's Phillips was bought over by Raleigh. Also I read recently that from 1920, by law, you had to inscribe "Made in (destination)" on your products. Before that you could just put "England" on it, for example. So 1920 - 1980? Does anyone have more knowledge about this specific bike and from what time period it is? I'm toying with the idea of re-chroming the shiny bits and doing a full restoration. The bike is still in working condition - pumped up the tires and took it for a spin just after I got it and it felt good.
  5. It’s Monday morning. Except for the fact that it’s the first the day of spring – it’s still your typical Monday. The first day after a weekend. Really typical, until I get a call from Tyrone at Custom Bike Shop in St Francis Bay. “Pop by the shop later and come check out this Santa Cruz” Now, any Santa Cruz bike is something to call home about, but when Tyrone called I should of known there was something more to this particular bike. And man, o man, I wasn’t disappointed and neither will you be! Jamie Loots, the up and coming mechanic under the watchful hand of Tyrone put it like this, “All that’s missing is Greg Minnaar’s helmet with Nelson Mandela on it”. Spot on, because at that moment glaring back at me with angels singing in the background was a Limited Edition Minnaar V10 Worlds Replica Santa Cruz Downhill Bike in it’s full glory. The only other thing missing was it’s pedals. One of the precautions I guess you must take when you have a bike like this standing in your shop and idiots like me wanting to hop on and take it for a spin… There's a story behind this bike. It’s something about beer (lots of it), a bet, and money (lots of it). But I don’t have all the facts. What I do know is there are only 25 of these bikes ever made and what’s more there’s only suppose to be one available in South Africa and I guess it’s this one – proudly owned by local St Francis Bay resident, Greg Darke (I hope he has told his wife before she reads this) More pics and full story here

  7. I recently made this video so I could enter it into the WOHZA Trickery GoPro Competition. This 4min film was shot at our local trail in St Francis Bay called Tim's Trail. This trail a first for our area and we're all super stoked to have a MTB playground so close by. We're dreaming big over here! I know some of you have some sweet spots you ride as well. Please share them here. (If you liked the video please click here to vote for me before 28/02/2014) http://youtu.be/56t_0Hv88TI
  8. Three years ago my dad and I did our first self supported MTB tour. The rest is history. Every year we've been doing them and they are becoming a tradition. It's also become a tradition for me to make a short film of each trip afterwards. This one has been the most ambitious one to date. I've bumped up production from using Windows Video Maker to Adobe Premiere Pro CC. Totally worth it! Please let me know what you think if you've watched it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUb_Xq5OcS4
