I have two mtb bikes, a hard tail and a soft tail. Should the rear suspension be taken into account when measuring the seat height. So should I take a measurement from my Giant Anthem 2 sitting on the bike and then use that seat height for my hard tail. The height is correct on the Giant.

Your suspension wont affect seat height, the rear wheel moves around the BB (or near about with VPP), you need to maintain the same distance between your seat and your pedals. Sag affectes the bb to ground distance and slightly changes your riding position.

Not all bikes have the BB seperate from the swing arm. Okay the giants are but take Mongoose, GT and even Commencal, the BB sits on the swing arm. So this whole thing is actually irelevant seeing that it is a Giant we're talking about.

No, on your Giant, the rear suspension had nothing to do with the length between the Seat and your BB

No, don't sit on the bike when measuring.

1st off make sure that your crank arms are the same length otherwise you'll have to compensate for the difference.

Place a book on top of your Anthem's seat (making sure its level) and measure from the underside of the book to the middle of the BB. Once you've established this measurement and your cranks are the same length. Use that as the basis for your Hard Tail.
