MikeyB Posted March 13, 2011 Posted March 13, 2011 Looking for some tech input, am riding Epic but had leg op 7 months ago so struggling with rehab to get full strength back on the leg, no surprise!Am riding an XTR triple 9 speed 11x34, and was wondering if a 12x36 wouldn't be better (if possible/compatiable?) given the nature of the routes? Any major downside?

Any major downside? There are 2 issues here. 1. Increased torque means that only specific freehubs are recommended to run it on. 2. (and I am posting my query under SS and fixie) The question of whether or not you will be outrun by the 34 / 11-34 crowd? Running a 34 / 11-34 appears to give you more rolling revolutions in all gears (except 4 & 9) over running 36 / 12-36.They also appear to be difficult to get, although I think Shimano SA are waking up to the fact that 29ers are increasing in popularity.
