Just managed to miss that mayhem after the Watertable (ja ja, by this time most of F and some of G already overtook me :D ). Was too relieved to have missed the flying bikes, I did not register or recognised any one of you guys. Straight after that I also had to stop to try and get my chain back onto the chainring after it overshifted and I could not get it back on on the fly. Some choice words were uttered, much to the amusement of the spectators. :D

my 2 cents - a lot of people can ride a bike real fast but not many know how to cycle. too many of the participants in the ACT over react to cateyes, drain covers, lost water bottles etc etc. i always say don't dodge the thing all you have to do is just miss it and that means very little sideways movement.

Also, supporting your point, reading and surveying conditions both 1 and up to 25 metres away from one's front wheel is also a specific skill....

 

Staying cool between the ears in the close moments is also challenging.

I remember touching neighbouring elbows and knees a few times yesterday...

Was anyone here in the crash in F group, just before chappies (right after the waterpoint) I just clipped the guy who was spinning on the floor but as I carried on I just heard mayhem behind me

I think I was the first guy down. Wasn’t a lot I could do after getting my front wheel switched….I’d love to know who the $##!!*$ was in front of me!! Just a small correction….it wasn’t group F but rather the lead G riders. I was high up in the pack (because that’s the safest place to be??!!)..about 10th and I think some guys got a little too excited and started jostling for priority for the climb. The next thing I was in a ditch gasping for air…5 or so minutes later I managed to get back on the bike to finish my 10th tour….what a memory!! Any pictures of the carnage…;-)

Wow Tristan, thanks for that, now at least we know the inside story, it was beginning to seem as if all the hubbers missed the carnage

It happens. On Sunday going down the Blue Route there was this person in front of me with very short, very blond hair under the helmet, with dik legs and I couldn't figure out if it was a chick or a dude, but I moved to overtake and our gloved knuckles touched. All I heard was this scream of indignation and near panic "NEE MAN!!!" . That's how I found it was a battle axe woman. Me and most likely everybody else in that bunch, including the spectators on the side of the road shet themselves. :D

The crash happened in the dip just before chappies started. We were going along in quite a big bunch. Everyone was probably trying to eke out every last bit of momentum before the climb.

 

I was sitting midpack to the left of centre. The bunch was moving over to pass some E riders on the left when the crash happened.Simultaneously there was a group of G riders who were pushing hard on the right to come pass our bunch. This almost funneling effect of the bunch I reckon cause the crash.

 

 

It was scary to watch the guys falling down like dominoes towards you. Next moment I go down and the guy behind goes over me and lands on top of me. luckily I am just a bit bruised.

 

It took a few minutes to get my bike adjusted again. i was shaken on the descent off Chappies and was on my brakes all way down.

 

My one mates carbon frame along with his helmet and wheel is busted.
