A mate and myself do a 15km Sunninghill ride...start @ 5:00 / 5:15.

We try do this around three times a week. We alternate between Sunninghill and Douglasdale (since he lives on that side). Douglasdale has tons of tough hills...

Majority of the riding is on the pavements...

The Sunninghill route:

We start off from Naivasha, cross the highway towards bowling and turn left up past the golf course (road parallel to the highway). Into the Woodmead suburb (dont know its exact name) which has 2 hectic hills...we then turn left as we past the entrance to the golf course (McDonalds in front of us), and then left onto Woodmead drive...

Pass Eskom on the left (still on Woodmead drive) and left back into Sunninghill (another tough hill). We then head down to Maxwell drive (decent downhill on the right hand side embankment) and then right into Nayuki - all the way to the prison and then back around to Naivasha...

Do you have another route that you were thinking?

Also - we arent the strongest of riders, so the 15km takes us about 55mins...

The Douglasdale route looks like this:

Some of my shorter Sunninghill rides look like this (+-10km when time is an issue - usually when I cant make it in the mornings):

A mate and I are also keen to start cycling during the week as things should quite down a bit from next week work-wise.

During weekends we usually start off at the Wedge shopping centre on Rivonia, head into Sandton and cycle down to William Nicol, from there its either right to Monte Casino or left to Hyde Park (both routes have a nice hill or two) and from there we usually wing it trying to hit as many hills as possible. Usually a 2 hour ride +-40km including to compulsary coffee break

Road riding or is it a mix?

Weekends we usually head off to MTB venue - Teak or Groenkloof...

There are a few other venues that we still need to check out - one of which is Kings Kloof (quite close to Teak I believe)

MTB's on the road.

Quite keen to try out some of the established venues, just need to get back in the saddle as work has been very hectic since Jan.

How technical are these venues?

Teak is awesome as they have different trails for different skill levels.

Groenkloof is a suprise each time - some really easy single track and then some super hectic technical stuff...Not too much signage either...

This sounds great ! I'll PM you for details if you dont mind me joining you guys? If you want to make it about 20km you carry on with the kayalami road, turn left into shakespear all the way pass the prison, left carry on up to maxwell to finish with a nice hill and free back to naivasha !

Another nice urban assault route i found thats about 50km over a weekend is:

Up maxwell, left at the top robot taking you to join the kyalami road. You go up all the way pass kyalami then left into main. This takes you past lonehill and joins witkoppen where you head left until you take a right onto the spruit for a 20+ km loop and back on witkoppen home.
