Same time, same place next week Thursday?

Will see if I can join you guys.

All depends what happens between now and then with the renovation work to my house...

Yup, Thursday 18:30 at the Engen by La Romantica

Renovations? You are going to need a mtb ride!

my light is the one i do road riding in the morning do i need something bigger

You will need something serious like a majik light or hope light. If you dont have the money for any of those they are above 1k then the blackburn headlights do a decent enough job of keeping you on the trail.

Top of Paradyskloof Road.

Here's the gate:

http://maps.google.co.za/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=Paradyskloof,+Stellenbosch,+Western+Cape&aq=0&sll=-28.45,24.7&sspn=31.01941,39.506836&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Paradyskloof,+Stellenbosch,+Brede+River+DC,+Western+Cape&ll=-33.968905,18.865304&spn=0.007207,0.009645&t=h&z=17&layer=c&cbll=-33.968905,18.865304&panoid=Fl7W9SJ2TUcLa0baTWGyww&cbp=12,45.05,,0,8.11

Then you have to explore a little to find the singletrack. There's a couple of different ones and a downhill track (not hectic though - I can do most of it on my hardtail).

is it safe to go alone?

Posted

nope, not up and running yet, spoke to Malan last week.

You need to be a club member or get a R40 permit.

I dont mind paying but paying to ride in the week and on the weekends is getting a bit much. I have many trails to explore!

Must have something to do with the fact that I am a roadie (or a closet mtbiker :D) and use to getting on my bike and pedaling where I want for a long as I want without paying a cent. Inhaling exhaust fumes and dodging traffic....

I dont quite understand that... mtbiking is supposed to bring you closer to nature (which is free), gives you fresh air (free), have fun (free), has a culture of helping others on the trial (free) and being carefree ... but almost everywhere you go you have to pay to get all the free stuff?

Understand your point felt the same for a while, but go try and design build and maintain a 20km trail and you will soon see how much effort and labour goes into making nice trails for us mountain goats. Hence i really dont mind paying. though paying 1.5k on all my yearly permits is not all that bad. Considering all the fun i have compared to for example a 3 month DSTV subscription watching reruns of everything is saw last year.

Night riding alone is never safe mate, criminals aside its not fun lying in a ditch somewhere with a broken leg and collarbone in the freezing cold.

Its never safe to ride alone, even during the day. Unfortunately I recently heard of someone being attacked and mugged at G-spot. Rather don't go alone.

Bring you lights, forget your engagement rings (for now) and let us go and have some fun.
