Specialized Brain Shock vs FOX RP 23

Hi -

I'm considering getting a a Spec 29er dual sus. How is the rear spec brain shock different to the FOX RP23 shock.

I have a Hard tail and only took one ride on a dual sus with RP2 shock. Boy was i bobbing all over the place.I hated it - and really suffered up the climbs.

Would appreciate some advice.

Thx

You have lots of flexibility with the brain to dial in the type of ride you want.

With the RP23 you can select different levels of platform damping, i.e cut out bob.

All suspension designs are different in the way they feel and react. Which duallie were you riding?

If you are looking for good Specialized support or advice look to cycles direct in Table View / Sunningdale area

I rode on a Specialized dual sus XC (i think 2008 model) with RP2 shock.

So the Brain is much better than RP23 (RP23 has 3settings i think)

To say much better is much of a muchness.

I believe on the brain you can dial the platform a little more accurately (I am basing this on a Stump Jumper I test road).

The RP23 is a class act shock which is easy to set up and maintain.

Go pop in at Cycles Direct and speak to Mike (You can tell him the guy on a strange bianchi celeste colour Morewood Shova sent you :) ) and then pick his brain. There will be a couple of bike there you can try out to see the differences on the rear shocks.

I rode an 'old' Specialized FSR XC with an RP23 and once setup it had no 'bob' and worked just fine. After that a 2005 Epic with the Fox with Brain pretty much again once setup it worked great, moved on to a 2007 Epic with the Specialized shock/brain and found it a bit more responsive!

Busy building a 2010 Epic comp carbon at the moment so will comment on that some time in the near future

Surely these days most of the shock manufacturers have their 'platforms' sorted so they will all work fine if setup correctly

Just remember 'sooner or later everyone wants to ride a Specialized' ;)
